to use italics, write then some text then [/ i] again, but without the space between the / and the i.

Lord Woock was going through the forest, leading a dozen armed men, hunting for a beast that has been terrorizing the farmers of the area. He hadn't expected them to offer such a generous reward. But then again, he wouldn't do the job for any less. Now, the problem was finding the wretched creature...

Back in the village by the to rivers, the villagers were in shock. While the bloody abominations were scaling the walls, their leader had run away.
Thankfully, the blacksmith had rallied the peasants, just as the first abominations started to land inside the makeshift walls. "To the burh!", he'd cried, and everyone had snapped out of their trance-like state.
Before the abominations were halfway across the courtyard, the people of the village were safely into the rough structure of rock and mortar - the beasts did not seem like the most determined of beings.
"Quick, archers to the second and third floors outer murder holes, boar spears to the floor murder holes on the second floor!" They didn't have very advanced wepaons - hunting bows, boar spears, pitchforks, scythes, wood axes, pointy sticks, and other farm tool, but they had the advantage over the abominations, in that they were safely behind walls, and were determined to fight to the end. The abominations seemed to be ready to run, if they'd eaten a few sheep, and bloodied themselves when rushing the burh.
And sure enough. The abominations killed two cows and a fat sow, tried to take the burh by storm, but were driven back by archers and spears. They wandered around the burh, just outside of bowshot for a few hours after their initial attack, with some halfhearted attempts to attack, but soon, they left.
When the monsters had been gone for a while, the blacksmith took two of the village's best hunters with him, and scouted for the abominations. They returned the next day, with good news: they'd seen the monsters crossing the river a few hours' travel to the south, after which they had started moving south at a high pace. There was general glee and stuff.
"No time to celebrate, dear comrades! We must rebuild this village, to make it a fortress that can keep both human and beastly monsters out, and honest working peopl safe!" The general glee was once again turned on, only more intense this time.
