Peasants - naive idea or not?

After reading the thread about Peasants - here is what i have in mind.

Let peasants be available for buying - and cost some value. But then they can actually work. Say 1000 peasants can produce you everyday some amount of gold/wood or whatever else. You'll have a limit on maximum number of peasants you can have. Also If your town is being attacked - peasants can't help - they are in the army - but if only they are there - yoy can take town without problem. And you can make them slaves - get them and work in your town.

So peasants or mainly other units - are worker unit - they cost not so much, produce something eveyrday, they can't defend against town if they are alone (meaning no higher level creature than theirs). And can be taken as slaves to work for another one. But they can take part of the battle - but with ability to runaway (only they can temporarily runaway). If the hero who was with them is defeated - the other one can took them or kill them or free them.

hmm.. probably too late for heroes4....

Microspam...

in same level as your ideas...*Mumbles*

Oh, I'm here...um...

So you think "worker" unit would be good idea for HoMM? Doesn't that make game little bit more too complicated? So would you need some amount of workers to do certain building or would they just lower how quickly everything can be build?
Would they give you more resources too?

For me this sounds very much like that Engineer idea that I should also comment...Are you sure it fits the whole HoMM scene? Do we want to have more strategic depth or keep it simple. I think that is more the question in more cases than single things like that...

I hope peasants are improved a lot i mean i dont even know why they are the worst im sure your average peasant could kill :
1 imp
1 skeleton
1 goblin
1 gremlin
1 fairy

not to meantion out run most of them.

How about reversing that idea and saying they can only Defend town if alone. that way on day 1 and 2 when u have no critters in garrison...
and how abou this u can hire x peasesnts per week and they can leave town and go to any resource mine and increase its daily output. of course there would be a limit to how many per mine like maybe enough to make wood/ore 4 or 5 a turn
and all others 3 a turn or maybe less then that too. After u get like say +10 total to all resouces peasents wont be available any more...
Well overall this idea does'nt sound too bad, but its definetly too late to put all of this new stuff into homm4, its practically at playtesting level. i think they're probably just fixing bugs now and whatnot. Maybe it would work for Homm5 though if they make it

They can't fight against Magic.(fairy) and they can't fight against death Crusadars..(skeleton) Also Goblins are to hard for them. They are agresive and fast.. Peasants are stupid and weak.

Peasent plague!

I like Peasents!  I have officially changed.  With the new "both-strike-at-same-time" these guys are valuable!  Assume you get 10 peasents for every dwarf.  Thats a strait 10 damage, against say (HOMM4) 5-7.  Sure, the dwarf kills 5 peasents, but there goes the dwarf.  The peasents live to annoy others!  Sure they die en masse, but they take care of business.  By the time your opponent gets a dragon, you will have swarms of these buggers. Your 2500 peasents will toast the dragon (and he will toast some 100 peasents), but the peasents will live to kill again. They are the ultimate group unit!  Why improve these guys, if they are as deadly as the plague.

I'm just curious what special they will have: Mining?

Hmmmmm....

Well, I guess I was wrong in the thread about "Which creature shouldn't be in HOMM 4". If the Peasents could mine and stuff, I guess they could stay, as long as the are recruitable in every town and can be upgraded to noblemen, but if they were like real peasents, they could start a Revolution, and that wouldn't be that great.

P.S. How do you get a signature?

One black dragon will kill 140-300 peasants. You'll need 1100 peasants to kill one black dragon. That is of course "raw" results, not taking skills into account. And im not sure if peasants will still have 1hp since every other creatures will have more hp in HoMM4.

But unless you are playing against a stoopid guy or computer, everyone will try to avoid to go melee range with a legion of peasants.Attack from range to reduce the number before attacking.

I wonder what will be the "special ability" for peasants, since every critters get one.

Increase turnip production? Building gazebos? LOL

Actually, given that the Haven would appear to have the early edge in the Nobility skill, I wouldn't be surprised if they had an economic impact. Perhaps not as far-reaching as Malkia proposes, but maybe extra gold or resources for every X peasants recruited.

Given that the stereotypical peasant isn't noted for their wits, maybe immunity to certain spells or effects that affect the mind, or a greater effect from a hero's enhancements? Just whistling in the dark here.

You only need around 600 peasants to kill a black dragon(look for the math on another thread).  The point about peasants special is interesting.  What could the special be?
Mining or estates?
I think mining might be likely maybe each peasant gives you a bonus to mining or they add to your estates.  They may be little money making machines that could be your most important creature.

Maybe each peasant adds 1 gold per day to your income, pretty soon you will keep that legion of peasants in your best castle very well protected.

Okay, I was exagerating when I said I love peasents, but I can now see their usefulness.

Since buildings may take time to raise, especially with the no limit to building per day, maybe the peasents would increase the building speed if in the town?

But, even with the gold special, it sounds like you would be trying to prevent what the Peasents are truly good at: being killed.

Who knows?  Maybe you will actually be pissed in this game when someone kills your peasents!
