The $7 figure comes from Draco's handy "translation" in the edit in the first post -- Toronto's CAN$/liter price converted into the equivelant US$/gallon price.  Canadians are certainly paying much more than Americans, but not quite $7 a liter.

Being bored, I did some calculations.  Wine-in-a-box costs about ~$22.67/gallon (CAN$7.02/liter).  Buying 14 gallons, it would cost $317 (CAN$372) to tank up on wine.  So, pricey as gas may be, it is still less expensive than feeding your car cheap wine.  Woo hoo.

Edit: Fixed math:
Wine-in-a-box quote: US$17.99/3 liters --> US$5.99/liter * (3.785 liter/gallon) = US$22.67/gallon --> * 14 gallon/tank = US$317.38/tank.
Currency converter at http://www.xe.com/ucc/ says:
US$5.99/liter --> CAN$7.02/liter
US$317.38/tank --> CAN$372.92/tank

Edit 2 And if you are willing to invest in a beer-powered car, your fuel will be...
US$3.56/gallon; CAN$1.10/liter for beer on sale.  It's about twice that off-sale, matching Toronto's price-gauged gas.  Furthermore, beer is a renewable resource.

They live in Canada, that's $7 a liter.

no no that 7$ was the canadian price at its highest (2.20 confirmed 2.40 rumoured) converted into US gallons then with the canadian to eUS exchange rate of 88.5 cents us = 1 CDN Dollar

the pumps seem to be staying at 99 cents which is in the 3.15$/gallon range up from 210 range of 6 months ago. although apparently 1 station in Winnipeg hit 1.799.

I understood that it wasn't really $7...yet.  I was just clarifying.

It's so confusing how petroleum is called Gas in America even though it's not a gas it's a liquid

But those who actually do use gas to power their cars, as in LPG are probably pretty glad they do right about now.

I would have never guessed that Khaelo would hate the world and society so much that he would damn us all with the "walking".

(ok enough of all this)

I had no idea walking was so dirty!  Maybe the most ecological thing to do would be to never leave the house, eat dustbunnies, and breathe as little as possible.

Indeed.

you're best bet is to ...umm... ahh... i don't know, maybe never bath so you get so dirty that you can grow shrubbery on your body which would turn your CO2 into O2 ?

It may sound gross, but if it saves the world, then we may have to. because when you die you release alot of toxins into the world, so mass suicide wouldnt help our situation either.

mind you in 10,000 years we would have more oil, which would produce more fuel, which would drive the cost back down

Gas would be short for gasoline.  I suppose we could always call it something that really makes no sense, petrol.
