Some questions from a complete WOG newbie
I downloaded and installed latest WOG, think it's 3.58f, and now, it looks great, like the things in it.
But when I want to play regular, SOD random map, and I decline wogification when asked...I still get commander in my game. Now wondering how to remove him/her from the game without uninstalling wog? Think it can be done, as I know a player from the zone that plays both version regulary...and don't think he has two comps.
Also, anyway to make cranim.txt work with WOG? If you don't know what it is, it's just a file that increases in battle animations by a lot, and now that I got used to it...don't think I could play without it (so slow now lol). For now, when I put it in data folder, game just doesn't start.
Thanks and sorry for probably silly questions.

BETA TEST for WoG 3.58f Script Update

Click on the WoG Options button on the scenario selection screen and select the options you wish included. The hard-coded options will always appear in random maps if they're selected here but you can turn them off.
Alternatively, you can start the SoD executable file and play without any WoG features (aside from a few graphic changes due to shared graphics data files).
As for cranim.txt, you should be able to extract the WoG version and edit that instead. The reason the game wouldn't start is because there are new creatures added to the file and of course, they wouldn't appear in your old edited SoD file.
I hope that helps.

If what Fnord has explained is'nt enough, you could go into the WoG Options and in the Hard Coded section, select "WoGify Random Maps Only." This will allow you to play SoD maps in SoD style. No HoMM3 map will WOGify.
And like Fnord says, some WoG "things" like wind blown trees will still be in the game.

Greetings and thank you Fnord.
First thing helped for sure, I just disable everything in Hard Coded section before playing regular maps.
As for second...heh, guess I installed WOG somehow badly, as there is no more SOD exe file. Well it is, but starts WOG instead. Still called heroes3.exe file, version is still 3.2, but icon is of WOG (Eye), and doesn't start SOD. Warned you, complete newbie.
And as for cranim, mmm, would really appreciate some walkthrough on how to extract it and edit it. Some computer things are really a mystery to me.
EDIT: Thank you BB as well. =)

Right, that will do it.

That's strange indeed. The WoG install shouldn't touch the SoD Heroes3.exe file since WoG's exe file is named h3wog.exe. I don't know why your would be changed.
If you decide to reinstall SoD and WoG at some point, I recommend making a copy of entire SoD folder this time (just copy and paste) and installing WoG onto the copy. That way you won't even have the shared graphics files.

You need a program called resedit (resource editor) that can be found here:
http://heroes.diaspora.ru/hmm3/files/utils/
1. Run the program and click on the "open" icon (it looks like a file folder).
2. Look in your Heroes 3 folder (the one where WoG is installed) and go into the Data subfolder.
3. You should find a file named h3bitmap.lod. Open it. A bunch of file names appear.
4. At the top-right of the screen you should see a *.* in window with a little arrow next to it.
5. Click on the arrow and choose *.txt. This should limit the display to just text files.
6. Locate cranim.txt and right-click on it. Choose "Extract to".
7. Choose a folder to extract to (or the desktop if you like) and a copy of the file will be extracted there.
8. Start the ERM Scripter and open the cranim.txt file (if you don't see cranim.txt, you may need to change the type of files to .txt from the drop down list at the bottom of the open file window).
9. Click on the File menu and choose "Reopen as Table".
10. Look along the row of icons at the top of the screen for an "A" with a double arrow underneath it "<-->".
11. Click on the little arrow next to this icon and choose "Autosize All Columns.".
12. Edit the file and save it to your Data folder in your WoG Heroes directory.
EDIT: Thank you BB as well. =)

Fantastic Fnord.
Off to do that now, and will follow advice of copy/pasting folder of SOD.
Cheers once again.

Done and done. Thank you very much Fnord!
SOD and WOG in different folders, random map templates work for both of them, as does cranim.txt. Still some more tweaking speed for different critters until I find what I like most, but main work is done.
Cheers yet again.
