I´m clueless about this expansion, please help!
I´m a total newbie to this expansion, so could someone please answer a few questions about it:
* Is it free?
* Was it its main strengths and weaknesses?
* Was it the main new features in this expansion?
* Can you modify existing SOD-maps into this expanded mode, or do you need to make new maps to use it?
* Does it include new sounds and music?

Answer: Yes

Answer: It's main strengths are, well, you'll just have to see for yourself. Not many weaknesses I can think of right off hand.

Answer: New creatures, new objects, new artifacts, the list goes on and on.
* Can you modify existing SOD-maps into this expanded mode, or do you need to make new maps to use it?
Answer: Yes you can "WoGify" RoE, AB and SoD maps as well as make WoG maps. Campaigns can also be done as mentioned along with the maps.
* Does it include new sounds and music?
Answer: I don't know about sounds, but through erm scripting you can put in sounds. And there is a new introduction music theme for WoG.

* Can you load earlier maps in HOMM3, AB and SOD in WOG map editor, and add WOG-creatures and buildings to the old maps??

You can still run the SoD (or Heroes 3 Complete) executable and the only changes you should then see are a few "cosmetic" graphic changes.
You can play all non-WoG maps and the regular non-WoG campaigns except for SoD (they're replaced with some WoG campaigns) using the WoG executable. They shouldn't be changed unless you WoGify them.
If you play random maps they will normally be WoGified (either partially using hard-coded features only or fully using scripted options too) but you can select any or all of these features in the WoG Options screen.
To be really "safe", you can make a copy of your standard SoD game by copy/pasting it to another folder and install WoG on the copy. It will work fine and then you won't even be sharing any graphic files with SoD. And if anything goes wrong with the install (or after), you can just delete it and start again without needing to reinstall SoD.

Yes, you can. There's a separate WoG editor and you can load standard, AB and SoD maps into it as well as WoG format maps. When you save the map using this editor it will normally save it in WoG Format.
Note: you can't generate random maps in the WoG random map editor (unless you install a patch by Grayface..which should also be incorporated into the next version of WoG) but you can generate them in the SoD editor or in the game itself.
I would just like to add that in my oppinion the main feature of WoG is ERM (Event Related Model). This is WoG's powerful scripting language created by Slava for Heroes 3 that allows many new features to be possible. There are dozens of new options in the WoG Options screen created with ERM scripts.

I downloaded all the files (wog358f part 1-8) from the Russian site, and tried to start the installation (part 1), but nothing happened except a black MS-DOS-screen that disappears. Was is wrong? Do I need to put the files into a specific folder? Should I put them in any of Heroes original folders? Do I need a specific program to open the files?
I have a Swedish computer by the way. Can that be a problem?
From the Installation instructions:
"2. There is a bug in Windows sort function that may make WoG install incorrectly if your system language is not an English. For sure it happens for Swedish. So we recommend you:
- check your system language and if it is English or Russian, all is fine;
- if not, change your local settings to English (Russian) language and country for Canada, Great Britain, Russia or US."
How do I do this???

I'm not sure of the reason for this problem but a local friend encountered it too and he has an English language installation. I think he downloaded the allinon1 from the Russian site, however, but he described the same problem.
I suggested he download the allinon1 from File Planet instead and so he did and it worked fine.
Then I tried downloading the allinon1 from the Russian site and it worked fine for me. I don't think I've tested the individual parts download and install, however.

Yes, this is important or you'll run into problems at some point during the installation.
I use Windows 98 but I believe it's quite similar in XP. Go to Control Panael and double-click the Regional Settings icon. There you can choose "English (United States)". After the install is completed, you can switch it back to Swedish.
