New Q & A from Nival
Q: Will Heroes 5 be Heroes 3 in 3D?
A: Absolutely not. We are adding new stuff, such as trails, which are purely an aesthetic feature.
Q: What about stack experience?
A: You will get no stack experience, no creatures without heroes, no caravans, no commanders, no advanced classes, no interactive landscape, no weather, no potions, no... See a pattern here?
Q: What about combo artifacts?
A: No, Heroes 5 will be RoE in 3D.
Q: Why? Because Ubisoft won’t risk their money?
A: No, it’s because Ubisoft won’t risk their money.
Q: Will heroes take part in combat?
A: Yes. They will have skills which are actually spells with 0 spell points and a different animation.
Q: Can you tell us more about other abilities?
A: I can... not.
Q: Could you share some information about heroes?
A: No comment.

No, you are both wrong. I am certain that Ubisoft will risk their money, which is why H5 is not H3 in 3D. In fact, they have seven levels of creatures in each town with upgrades for each creature!

They were a game feature that allowed you to transfer units from one city to another without having to move the manually. The caravans were invisible (they were a last minute addition to the game, if I remember correctly, just like the potions of immortality), so you only saw the creatures when they arrived to destination.

Imho "new stuff" should not be only aesthetic, it should bring some functionalities to improve the gameplay.
Let's hope and wait to see...

How interestingly contradictory, I'd say.
Although confusing, it's not contradictory.
If you're on the adventure map, it's 3D. If you run into a feature from AB or SOD it will be 2D.
Does that clear things up?
