Create a Town for Heroes V - International Contest!
Many fans have been disappointed that Nival will only accept Russian language entries for 'Create a Town for Heroes V' Contest. We think that every fan deserves a fair chance to create a town for Heroes V and that is why we now announce the Age of Heroes International Create a Town for Heroes V Contest.
The AOH International contest is open to all English language entries. This is how it works:
1) Completed. The entries are to be posted in the Altar of Wishes forum of Heroes Community with a subject prefix ICTC: (International Create a Town Contest). For example: ICTC: The Arctic Town
2) Completed. The visitors are welcome to post Suggestions - to help the contest participant improve his/her entry. The authors can edit their entries and keep improving them. This is the chance to learn from others or to help your favourite author. Threads will be kept free of spam.
3) Completed. All entries will be finalised on 5th of February - no more suggestions or editing. Now the visitors will post their Ratings - any entry can be given a rating of 0 to 10 (10 is the best).
4) Completed. The threads will be closed on 15th of February - no more ratings. Age of Heroes Judges will now view the entries. Based on visitor ratings and their own judgement, the judges will select the top three entries. The combined visitor ratings will be a 50% factor in the decision, while the other 50% will be the combined ratings of the AOH judges.

5) (new) Helping the winners win the Nival contest!
5) (old) The winners will be announced on 20th of February. The winning entries will be translated into Russian language and sent as entries into the Nival's official contest. ThE_HyDrA will do the basic translations and I will literary-proof them. ThE_HyDrA is our H5 Content admin and Heroes Community's top quality poster and I am a native Russian speaker - the translations will be done with professional quality.
Our prizes
The contest is sponsored by DGA Games.
1st Prize
1. Revealed! Enshrinement as a hero in Heroes 5 Card and Tile Game!! A hero with winner's name and photograph in a standard town of the winner's choice! See Age of Heroes news for more details.
2. Deluxe Heroes IV CTG Starter Set and 6 booster packs (includes the computer game!).
2nd Prize
1. Heroes IV CTG Starter Set.

1. Choice of any Battlecards Starter Set (with 5 expansions).

Update! We will be giving away lots of HC red stars to the top participants, and the top entries will be published on Age of Heroes website.
Age of Heroes ICTC Rules:
• Entries must adhere to Nival's contest guidelines - below.
• Entries must be in English.
• Entries must follow the posting procedure described above.
• No entries from the contest Judges.
Nival's Contest Guidelines:

- To begin, undoubtedly, name your town - short, bright and original.
- Now that the race has a name - it must have an emblem! Think one up and draw it.
- Next, go deep into the past. Tell us how your race appeared in the HOMM universe, describe the main events that happened to it, etc.
- Describe your race: how its representatives look, what do they do during times of peace, what do they love, avoid, who are their friends (if any), who are their sworn enemies (if any), etc. Do not forget to tell us about places in which they live.
- Think up unique features of the new race, but be careful to keep the game balanced.
- And, of course, think up seven types of creatures which will defend the honour of this race on the battlefield. Specify the main characteristics of each creature: strengths and the weaknesses, special abilities, magic qualities (if they have any). Do not forget to think up and describe upgrades of all of seven types of creatures!
- Lastly and most importantly! Do not forget a key rule of the participation in any competitions - the task at hand should be carried out with great attention to detail and reviewed for errors, at least, three times. Don't rush - the better the race is described, the more harmoniously it will assimilate with the Heroes of Might and Magic V Universe, and the better chance you have of victory!

Could an English native speaker review the translation? There are several words/sentences that are a bit confusing:
"...if they are engaged in a peace time, that love, that avoid, of whom are friends (if are friends), or if they are in the constant conflict..."
Is this babelfish translation?

The Nival guidelines translation above has been edited, we'll fix the translation on AOH today as well.
I think Nival will give some thought to the towns and creatures that a lot of fans suggest in their entries, but ultimately I don't think that the winning entries will change much in the actual structure of the game. This is a creativity contest, an opportunity to have a go at being a game designer with a chance to be recognised as one of the top creative fans.

what does it mean when it says "prequels"? is that Heroes 1-4 or is it in relation to the history found on pages like this, this or this?

edit: another question
what about if the name of the town is something like "Lizdarken"? which is a combination of lizardmen and dark, and has no russian translation. just say this town happens to win the HC comp, how will "Lizdarken" be translated?

Here's an alternative translation:

So I'd say it's race history similar to the threads you've linked - from the beginning of the race. I don't think it means previous HOMM games. I'll adjust the translation above.
Author should specify if their race's name is a combination of words, or a sound-based name. If the translated combination word doesn't sound good, we'll just write the pronounciation of the word using Russian letters.

You don't need to make images of monsters. The only image you need to draw is the logo of your town/race. What is required is listed in the Nival Guidelines above.

No, the pictures need to be somewhere on the internet to be displayed on HC pages. This thread has information about uploading images to use on HC pages.

There already are 6 towns wth balanced allinces, enemies, and one archenemy. If you add a seventh town it would:
A: gang up gainst one town (one town has two arch enemies)
B: remain neutral (but nuetality is boring, this game is about conquest)
C: doubles: add two races that hate each other.
The fisrt two options are bad (unless they're ganging up aginst dungeon. You can bet those power-freaks will be super rigged.), And the third otion changes the game too much.
Either; they put the town in (see above for why this is bad), One of the towns splits (haven becomes laven and maven), or thi is a waste of time (none of the towns go in.).
This contest isn't going to end well in my opinion.

Miru,I think that winning faction won't be took into expansion.Sure,they maybe will take some good ideas but it won't be anybody's town except nival's or perhaps ubisoft's.

I think it's an hard but interesting quest to create a new town...
The best way is to create a team of people with ideas and time enough.
It's not easy to satisfy all requirements...
A necessary requirement is to own a strong passion for Heroes of Might and Magic (being in HC with a lot of good posts or having a good rank in ToH is a good way to show it...)

Yes, you can make multiple entries into the contest. Of course be aware that quality wins, not quantity.
