Proposal to keep ICTC going indefinitely...
heh heh jes' kidding
not entirely though
I was thinking that it would be so terrible if all these little universes that we created just completely disappeared after this contest was over. My proposal is to keep them alive in the form of a story-telling round table. I've seen these things done on forums before and they almost always deteriorate into the most retarded spamfests. Which is why I have several ideas that might serve to increase consistancy and creative cohesiveness. (tbe rule of 3C's)
1. Membership is restricted to people who created (or create) an ICTC entry (and the judges if they are so inclined)
2. The round table will be restricted to between 5 and 7 people. If more people want to join then we can split into two separate round tables and so on ad infinitum.
3. Our creative playground will be restricted to the the world of HOMM5 and the 60 add on factions that were created for ICTC. (I expect though that each group will probably only be exploring the 5 to 7 little worlds created by it's members)
4. Most importantly: Each group will have a randomly selected chairperson who will provide the groundrules and serve as a type of moderator for that group. (I expect this chairpersonship to slowly rotate so that everybody gets a turn at the creative reins for awhile.) The biggest problem I've seen in story round-tables is when too many characters become introduced, old characters aren't developed, and the story takes so many turns that the story's beginning becomes lost. My solution for that is to have the chairperson act as a type of editor to make sure that the story stays focused. They can suggest long-term motivations for the characters, lay some behind-the-scenes groundwork and perhaps restrict narrative ideas that don't fit into previous descriptions of theirs or someone else's faction.
It's not entirely coincidental that I'm introducing this idea. My very first thread when I started posting over at the Heroes Round Table was on the topic of HOMM the movie (which ironically deteriorated into a quasi flamefest between traditionalists who wanted to see the Might & Magic storyline put on the big screen and experimentalists who wanted to explore different directions in the Might and Magic universe. I'll give you one guess which side I was on…)
Is there anybody else interested in this idea?
[edit]I just added an organizational thread in the Bards Glade Pyre forum. It's called ICTC Round-Table OOC All further action should take place there.

If I understand what you want correctly, then there's nothing stopping you from starting something like this in Bards Glade Pyre. That's where all the roleplays and related things go.

why not?
Say, when you talk about story-telling, do you mean classical ictc descriptions or something more to do with just storyline? You know, no creatures, no buildings, no numbers?
How are you going to restrict access to the thread?
I'd like to see something like this for homm 3. I'm not "traditional", I just don't like the homm 5 base idea.

just a story, no RPG, no numbers. Set in the worlds created by the ICTC members.

If anybody wants to join they can go to the organizational thread and sign up. If they haven't created an ICTC entry then they'll have to create one, then post it in the Tavern of the Rising Sun, and then be graded by the other storytellers.:-)Other then that there's no way to prevent vandalism except to ask the moderaters to erase it.

so would I actually. If you go to Bards Glade Pyre and start an HOMM3 story round-table OOC thread, I'll join it. You might also want to post a thread in the HOMM3 section like I did here.

Lets see how your idea turns out.
Here are some towns I've imagined. The forth one is still cooking. The history sections are there mainly to give some cohesion and a bit of background but you might check it if you want.
