This is getting frustrating
My name is Pengu and I've played for some time on toh and really liked the challenge.
But I took a few month off and now when I try to play anyone, especially with high ranking it becomes ridicolus. My last 3 games:
Me vs Eagle eye76.
We played jebus template cause he wanted to.
We took random towns cause he wanted to.
I obliged. He got stronghold and me Dungeon.
Then in the 3rd week he needs to go so we save the game.
After 1-2 weeks I ask if we can contniue the game.
We load the game and right away he expresses his discontent and wants to start a new game.
After grudingly accepting to continue we go on until the end. I find him in in the middle my hero and army outmatching his. He tries to reach an artifact
out of desperation and can't reach it. Then in the next turn i can catch up tp him. I take the artifact and attack. He says he doesn't need to report cause I cheated. And then he pulls the worst excuse i've heard in a while: Only he can take the artifact cause I muct kill the guard. That is just laughable. Not only that but I would had won easily anyway. Just pulls a pathetic excuse so he won't loose his leagionare status.
Me vs spawn112.
It takes 5 days then he leaves.
He created the random map. he choose the 2 min turns.
Then day 5 he says I'm way too slow having 3 fights in one day and my turn took over 5 min...
So he leaves. I check the save afterwards and what do I see? He had suicided with his main hero and didn't tell
cause he might had to report a loss.
Not that it mattered but I'd probably offered him a replay anyway.
Me vs Abstractedman.
This one last 1 day. We start a random game.
He wants to start with Ivor so I let him start with Ivor.
The game starts and 1 min into the game he leaves.
I save and goes and check the save. And I see that ivor got no elves at the start. So he left in danger of losing and having to report a loss.
Just 3 examples why toh is becoming so frustrating.
It used to be fun...

I know about the first game you mentioned here cause your opp is a friend of mine... i told him to report the loss cause in this case he was just unlucky...Honesty i look forward to see him reporting this game (i told him to)... He's a nice guy.. maybe he just forgot about it...

How about we getting a small change in the reporting system?
Donīt know if it is possible, and how much programming it would need, but reading all these complaints lately made me think of that:
The report of a game should have TWO parts!
First part: You have to setup the game in the reporting area on TOH, by telling opponents name, mapname (or size). When both have done that, game can start. (So both can be sure, game is listed on TOH report page)
Second part: Both report loss/win after the game
Game confirmed.
This way, one party could still refuse reporting, but game was setup, so his excuses for not reporting are low.
Games which are not finished after...lets say 1 week after setting up, end in a draw (0.5 / 0.5) if none reports.
Just an idea....

Yes that's it!
i i'll say something more about it...
Like a small line to put up the rules for that game too
ex: no cons/hv, rr, h&r, diplo, fly/dd, fmg (1 enough), born log, lev4 H, 4-5scrolls,
It's just an example (don't need to agree those rules, just make your own set and agree them before game is started).
I hope it helps

Your game with demo should be reported soon. I just replied to the email he sent me about that game and told him he needed to accept his loss. Funny thing--I actually lost the SOJ the exact same way once before. Pissed me off royally because I was too dumb to check my movement before hitting the devils guarding it. Looking back now, it's pretty funny, lol ]
The other 2 games I can't help you with. You've already looked at the saves--now it's too late to enforce having them finished.
Next time let one of us know what's going on before looking at the save

That's not a bad idea
Not so sure about the time limit though. (probably works better in h3 because of shorter games)

Hiya Lichking
Well, my point is that if you only reach some days into the game it's not something I do to demand a reported loss. What frustrate me is that in these 2 examples
opponent run away at first sight of trouble cause they "might" loose. And I just think it's very low to
leave games 1st week cause you don't like the outlook
and knows that if they leave early makes me look like a nagging fool for demanding that the game continue.
Reason I checked save afterwards is that I knew there was a snowballs chance in **** they were gonna continue.
The 1st one even accused me of being slow and the 2nd one left day 1.
At least some honour would be nice.

This is about game balance. Make them report, unless they are friends. Specify this before starting the game! IF that is a problem, then make some "rule" that allows a single restart within the first few days.
If for some reason the guy you play isn't honorable enough to finish his/her games, then you should definitely put him on your blacklist - atleast you've learned something

Of course I've learned something
But I think it's frustrating and sad that it has to be like that. Why does it has to be so hard to accept a defeat?
Then you just have to try and win next time.

Well, for me Heroes 3 is 50 times more fun online... or at least it used to be.
And I'm not just talking about reporting or not, but the general behaviour in games.

Canīt agree more.
When will u all accept, that more rules will even unbalance the game more!
How often did u see (even on jebus!), one area had 2 topes, 3 libraries, 4 cons, 12 hives and 28 portal of glory, while the other side had 2 pikemen dwelling and greater gnolls flail as best artefact??
NEVER
But with your rules (no cons/hives) u ruin it completely. Coz now u will find 1 area with 1 tope and 2 libraries, while the other has 2 cons and a portal. So how balanced is that??
If u want a completely balanced game, play CHESS!
If u lose a random game against someone who had better arties and more dwellings....so WHAT??? You will play him more often, and the next game it will be vice versa....if not in the next...then after the 3rd or 4th game!
Why ban a battlespell? One guy has Gunnar and is much faster, while the other has better battlespells. Thatīs fine. If one has Gunnar AND Implo AND 29 Relics AND 9 conservatories....so what?...You had a good and interesting game till the endfight. Report (if tourney game) loss and start a new one.
More and more players tend to eleminate things they had lost against before. Thatīs lame.
See Heroes 3 as it is meant to be....A GAME
To make very few rules which prolly RUIN the game (nothing to do with balance) is ok for me. Like DD, Fly, Diplo (except diplowar, where both have it) and prolly Cartographer. I donīt mention rr or fmg here, coz in my eyes, these 2 things have something to do with honorable play and donīt need to be mentioned explicit. If someone needs to kill me with redrush or without fighting misplaced guards, fine. I go report my loss, but will never play him again...that easy..
If i read statements in Zone or Gamespy like "I donīt play for fun, only for TOH", iīm pretty sure this person missed the point behind any kind of game......having fun and a good time!
See ya....

PEOPLE!! THAT WAS AN EXAMPLE!! WHY YOU TAKE IT SO PERSONAL?.. IT WAS JUST AN IDEEA...I SAID THERE WHATEVER RULES YOU WANT AND YOU AGREE WITH YOUR OPP..THAT'S ALL.(SO I WON'T RECOMAND THOSE RULES ANYWAY I PUT THERE SO MANY JUST TO SHOW YOU THEY DIDN'T TAKE THAT MUCH SPACE 1 LINE IS ENOUGH)
