WHICH IS BETTER HEROES 2, OR HEROES 3 + EXPANSIONS

Hey all.

I made this up just to see what people think is better:

Heroes 2 or
Heroes 3 + Expansions.

I really like both games but it is all up to you people.
So come here and tell me what you think is better.

Thanks and cant wait for the replies.

more town, creature, hero classes, and number of players make more variation.
Heroes 3 is better.

HoMM3: 4 years

Civ3: 1 year

So you rate things based on how long you play them.
You like Heroes 3 better because you have played it for 4 years and Heroes 2 for 1 year

Still i really like Heroes 3 but what started it for me was Heroes 2.
I played that I think in year 2 and I have great respect for that one because it got me into the Heroes series.

You are definetely right about it.
Heroes 3 has been out for i think 6 or 7 years.
It is quite dated but the graphics are remarkably better than Heroes 2 But heroes 2 has got something about it that makes me come back and play it once in a while.

It has gotten old and its over, but it always remembered as my all time fave game. At my age and increasing dislike for anything "computer" I dont think it will happen again.

I'm only 15 but i still play heroes 3 recently got Heroes 3 complete. Really like it.

Anyway i still rate it as one of my all-time fav games.
It has got good replayability and I just keep coming back to play it.
But I will never forget some of the good times that I had while playing Heroes 2.
Now I have Heroes 2 Gold which is better because of the expansion pack but I really like Heroes 2 because it brings back good memories while I was playing it.
The Overall gameplay of Heroes 2 is good. It has a good backstory and I really like the decisions which i can make throught the campaign.
In Heroes 3 Gameplay is a little harder. Wouldn't recommend it for kids. It is harder, requires more strategic thinking and some decision making such as:
Will I save my gold mine because i desperately need it, -or- Will I leave the Gold mine, not be able to hire creatures and I might die in the porcess.

It is quite difficult sometimes.
In Heroes 3 the Spell casting system is a lot better, with added spells more information such as: a description of the spell and how much damage it does. Different catagories in the spellbook such as: Air, Earth, Fire and water spells.
Also the added Artifact thing. Where you can place artifacts on different parts of the body or in the backpack so you can store as many artifacts as you want rather being limited to having about 10 or 15 artifacts in Heroes 2.
Also the 3D transition from Heroes2 to Heroes 3 is a big difference not only to the Graphics but also to the way people see the game.
I see it as a more modern game rather than Heroes 2 being an old game because it is 2D.
In Heroes 3 there are many more artifacts including 15 or something combination artifacts which are really good and can really improve your chances at winning.
Online is much better with Heroes 3.
Many more creature types and Towns in Heroes 3 such as: The Dungeon, Fortress, Tower, Rampart, Inferno and the NEW conflux which was introduced in the Expansion pack Armaggedons Blade.
New Creatures include: Gremlins, Dread Knights, Ghost Dragons, Demons, Devils,Thunderbirds, Beheomoths, Nagas and many others.

There are also more places to visit such as:
Freelancers guide, University, and countless others.

So yeah.

its just better overall IMO. just everything is better, especially hero development which wasnt as good in h2, as in no spell school skills and such

also h3 plus expansions is really like getting 3 games, and thats better than 1

Yeah your right I got Heroes 3 complete the other day for 30$ it is better than just having Heroes 3 ROE which i had before.

Heroes 3 has improved alot since Heroes 2 and I agree with what you are saying. Do you think there is anything good about Heroes 2 or do you think it is just a bad game and not worth it.

i think heroes 3 balanced the game out.  there was a lot of broken stuff in h2 (which is why i liked it).

heroes 3 nerfed ranged units hardcore due to the half dmg from far away.

also, blind got kinda nerfed.  in h2, after a unit got blinded, and then attacked, he could not make a move afterward.  in h3 this is not the case (unless you get like expert blind).   so my fav tactic of blinding all stacks, and killing them with archers has been severely hampered.

dimension door is nerfed.  even with expert, you can only cast 4 times.

also in h3, towers alwawys fire first, which means you will take losses (unless you ressurect).  in heroes 2, the towers fired when the first castle defender got initiative.  so it was completely possible to destroy a castle without taking a single loss.

all in all, due to the larger field size in h3 and the nerfing of archers, combat lasts longer.  in h2, it was easy to destroy an entire army on turn 1 of combat due to mass haste, ranged units, and fast fliers.  i've found its more rare for that to happen in h3.

oh and ghosts in h2 were broken.  every time they killed a unit, their stack grew permanently by that number.   yeah barrow mounds were broke.

free dwellings were broken too.   they did not reset to 0 after every week.   so it was possible to visit a halfling mound and get like 200 halflings.   that obviously can swing the tide of a battle in a HUGE way to suddenly get a massive stack of sprites lol.

so h2 has lots of fun broken stuff to play with.

h3 balanced it.   that's fun too.   i think h3 added lots of great improvements, the biggest one being the WAIT command.   VITAL.   if h2 had that command, i'd probably never stop playing it lol

oh finally, my favorite h2 exploit against the comp ai was to take over a castle, and leave.   the comp would take it over, but would leave an entire stack there as garrison and leave.    i would basically dimension door back, destroy that stack, and leave again.  in this way i completely wiped out entire computer ais peacemeal.

also, you can hire unlimited heroes over and over and they'll always have an army in h2 (in h3 after your 3rd hire your heroes will come with just one unit)
