New Hero
Maybe it looks like they did!Maybe it is! But according to what they say about this game it promisses to be more like combination of Diablo with massive RTS! But we'll see! And I also heard that this dev team been in the contest list to create Heroes V! But their neighbours won! And they decided to continue thier work without Ubi!

Combining RTS and RPG is the worst idea the game industry has ever made. They are simply unplayable - best idea is Spellforce 2 [not mentioning Starforce and beta working for maybe 10% of people] - you have army of about 50 units + about 5 heroes. Each hero gains levels [you need to choose new abilities], finds artifacts [which you use like in normal rpg game, like nwn], has spells, specials abilities... and you must switch to that hero to use them. Try to manage that in real time without doing smth bad to your computer or yourself after some time.

I do agree that combining of RTS and RPG can look like a quite borring thing especially in such games as Spellforce!(Don't know about upcoming spellforce 2 ). But the idea to confront such two genres is of interest. According to game features that www.heroesofae.com tells these 2 gameplays r going to be absolutely free as well as able to combine them.
"Quote from webbsite
The player will be free to choose in between the RTS and RPG ways of playing. Having opted for the latter, the player will be acquiring skills, accumulating battle experience, and buying cards with spells as well as finding others on the battlefield. Through skillful use of these magic cards and with the experience/skills he has gained, the player's hero will be able to defeat enemy armies consisting of thousands of units. Having preferred the RTS style of play, the player will build up cities, accumulate and lead huge armies. This manner of play will provide the chance to demonstrate the player's talent as a strategist and military commander."
It seems to me that these two games are different. And in my opinion HoAE will provide fresh gameplay! And by the way! You are able to lead a getting skills hero and thousands of units with him!
