well in heroes 3 the equations where similar and the expert offense skill which gave +30% to attack damage was just like having a +6 to attack (except for the ranged thing and if you had like +300% to attack already).
i still cant see any change in this version except for +15% instead of +30% which makes the attack skill totaly suck...

man, if you can't see the difference, and still think +3 attack = Expert Attack, then you need to re-read it again, and again, and again until you see the difference.
Or even better, let's do the math with some fixed numbers. Let's say the basis is a stack of 10 creatures, doing exactly 10 damage each, with an attack difference of 17, fighting against creatures without damage reduction.
Now, to the math:
- with +3 attack, you get:
10*10*(1+(0.05*20))*1 = 200
- with Expert Attack you get:
10*10*(1+(0.05*17))*(1.15) = 212.75 (truncated, that's 212).
get it now?

Here is my explanation:
I compared the relative difference of damage, for example, the purple line means (damage dealt by having expert Attack skill - damage dealt by have 3 more Attack rating) / (damage dealt by have 3 more Attack rating).
You can see in the graph clearly that to have Attack skill is almost always better than to have 3 more Attack rating, plus you can have Archery skill from Attack skill, the boost for ranged attack is even bigger.
Here's another graph that shows how damage differs from H5 and H3.
Obviously, in mose cases, the higher level Attack skill the hero has, the more damage the creature deals in H5 than in H3.

Ingenious. QP deserved. Considering both armorer and offense were of great value in h3, I would say that I will rarely miss attack and defense in h5
