Avenger: Is it worth it?
I was wondering whether you thought if avenger is worth it.
Here are the details for people that do not know
Avenger is a Racial ability.
There is a 40% chance given to all Sylvan units to deal double damage to the favoured enemy.
But the player must defeat 2 populations of this creature before he/she is able to select them as a favoured enemy, thats 2x the creatures base growth.
Avenger has 3 boosters, 4 skills, and 4 associated abilities.
These all help your units and hero alot, and are useful.
The Avenger is hard to build up so that is something to watch out for and consider.
Well I was wondering if you think if Avenger if worth it?

Could you guys make some reasons why you think it was worth it.
Not just saying yes it is, or I agree entirely.
Could you give some reasons why you think it is worth it please.
Thanks.

I`m not really cear on one point: when you chose your favoured enemy, is it possible later to reconsider, and chose another? If so, the Avenger would be too powerful IMO.

I am wondering the same thing as wiseman, though I have a different position. I think (at least for larger maps) it is too underpowered if you can't later change the entries on the favored enemies list. I am imagining that even on a 5-player map, with each opponent playing as a different town type, the favored enemy list is spread so thin as to boil down to little more than an occassional "extra lucky" hit against one stack every few battles (if that often).
I do not think that this list should be able to be changed at any moment (maybe a structure at town will allow you to change it), but if they are permanantly set in stone after the initial decision, this seems to be one of the weaker racial specialties, as it really is nothing more than another chance for a lucky strike that doesn't even work against the vast majority of the troops that you'll face.

avenger is way to good to not max it
every race has 1-2 key units. when are several differit races, u just have to put on u'r list only 1 key unit for each race( max 3(4))and u wont regret it(very good for elves and dancers)
if u have only one race as adversary i think is not bad to have half of the enemy army on u'r list(is kinda overpower)
And dont worry about killing 2 populations before. u'l do it while level up or expand. i think is harder not to kill them

Yes I think this abilities value is greatly determined by the particular circumstances of the map and the number of opponents, etc...
I can see this ability beeing virtually worthless in some scenarios and overpowering in others. In an online game vs 1 opponent, given that you know what faction your opponent is playing, this ability could be too good.

IT will probably spoil multiplayers, as multiplayer means mostly 1:1 wars. And then Sylvan will be able to do double damage to half of your army...

Yeah that is true, because then they can get pretty powerful and stuff, and as you said it can spoil multiplayer.

You can at any time change the racial enemies, and choose from the list of the poossible ones (if you killed 2 populations or not)

Also keep in mind, if you combine this ability with hero that has high luck like 3 or better luck, then this hero has a very good possibility of just annihilating the enemy

Well here are some things about Avenger:
Avenger: Unique to Sylvan heroes. This allows the heroes to choose a favored enemy. Whenever the hero encounters a hostile creature of the same type as in the list of favored enemies, neutral or owned by another player alike, all the hero's troops will deal extra damage. When the level goes up, the hero can choose more favored enemies.
Here are the bonuses to the Avenger racial ability:
* Deadeye shot: The hero's attack inflicts damage equal to 3 times of his level. If the enemy attacked is present in the favoured enemy list, the damage is doubled and at least kills one creature.
* Imbue Arrow: Allows hero to not only inflict damage with his arrow, but also cast a damaging or cursing spell imbued on the arrow, draining upon hero's mana.
* Rain of Arrows: A special combat ability that attacks all enemy creatures that is present in the favoured enemy list, dealing 3 times of his level damage.
Now with them this skill is actually pretty good, but sometimes a little difficult to master, sometimes

so in smaller maps it seems overpowered and in larger maps it seems fairly adequate (I don't quite agree with the sentiment that each faction only has 1 important troop to target).
The bonuses don't seem all that useful for most games. Supposing your hero is level 30 (a high level for a late-game hero), that means that each of the 3xlevel mod abilites will do 90 damage (if by chance, all four of the listed enemies are on the field, then there's 360 net damage for Rain of Arrows, and 180 damage for DeadEye Shot for a listed enemy, too). This is pretty good damage, but nothing to wet your pants over (a late-game magic user with a mastery of destructive magic, the spell "implosion", and 10 spell power can do 400 damage, [chain lightning can do 468 net]). Granted spells cost mana, but also consider that a level 30 hero probably has more than 10 spell power and hopefully has a decent stockpile of mana.
Imbue Arrow seems a little more handy, but still more of a nice little perk than a master strategy.
The most handy part of the list seems to be the list itself. Since it's been verified that it can be changed at the town, this seems like a very useful damage mod (especially when coupled with luck), almost like an easy version of elemental chains, without as much potential.

Imbue arrow is good and it is handy.
Avenger is worth it in my opinion.
And Avenger is one of the better skills imho, as it has many good things about it that will help you to win.
