Idea for an alternative to Necromancy: Embalming.
I know that Heroes 5 is already finished but I think this could be an interesting idea for the expansion or maybe Heroes 6.
Embalming – The Necromancer preserves corpses of dead enemies to be used in Necropolises and for special abilities.
Basic embalming: 500 xp + 100 xp per hero level corpses embalmed. Hero can carry a number of corpses equal to 1/2 the experience value of his or her army and still move at full speed or up to 1x the experience value of his or her army and move at half speed. Lowers morale of living troops depending on number of corpses carried by hero vs. xp value of the enemy. Corpses must be moved into a Necropolis within 1 week.
Advanced embalming: 1000 xp + 200 xp per hero level corpses embalmed. Hero can carry a number of corpses equal to 1x the experience value of his or her army and still move at full speed or up to 1.5x the experience value of his or her army and move at half speed. Lowers morale of living troops depending on number of corpses carried by hero vs. xp value of the enemy. Corpses must be moved into a Necropolis within 2 weeks.
Expert embalming: 1500 xp + 300 xp per hero level corpses embalmed. Hero can carry a number of corpses equal to 1.5x the experience value of his or her army and still move at full speed or up to twice the experience value of his or her army and move at half speed. Lowers morale of living troops, and a chance of causing disease to living troops, depending on number of corpses carried by hero vs. xp value of the enemy. Corpses must be moved into a Necropolis within 3 week.
Master embalming: 2000 xp + 400 xp per hero level corpses embalmed. Hero can carry a number of corpses equal to twice the experience value of his or her army and still move at full speed or up to 2.5x the experience value of his or her army and move at half speed. Lowers morale of living troops, and a chance of causing disease to living troops, depending on number of corpses carried by hero vs. xp value of the enemy. Corpses must be moved into a Necropolis within 1 month.
Grandmaster/Ultimate embalming: 4000 xp + 500 xp per hero level corpses embalmed. Hero can carry a number of corpses equal to 3x the experience value of his or her army and still move at full speed or up to 4x the experience value of his or her army and move at half speed. Lowers morale and luck of living troops, and a chance of causing disease to living troops, depending on number of corpses carried by hero vs. xp value of the enemy. Corpses must be moved into a Necropolis within 2 month.
Embalming related abilities:
Corpseapult: The catapult also launches corpses during sieges, causing plague on enemy troops.
Necromantic transfusion: Burns up corpses carried by hero to energize army. The more corpses burned up, the more energized army becomes.
Defile: Destroys corpses to turn the battlefield into cursed ground.
Grave golem: Creates a golem made of corpses to fight for the hero. Power of golem depends on level of hero and number of corpses used.
Unholy feast: Increase army movement by up 25% by feeding on corpses. Number of corpses needed to increase army speed depends on army size.
Dark revival: Ultimate ability. Burns up all corpses carried by the hero and permanently revives a number of troops equal to half the xp value of corpses burned.
Uses for embalming in Necropolis:
Corpses can be used in creature dwellings to increase growth. Increases a dwelling’s growth by half the xp value of creatures used. A dwelling’s growth cannot be increased more than 50% per week; extra corpses are carried over to increase next week’s growth. Only dragon corpses can be used to increase bone dragon growth.
Embalming related buildings:
Grinder: Converts xp value of corpses into gold.
Apothecary: Trade corpses for resources and on occasions, spells and artifacts.
Mortuary: 3/4 the xp of corpses sacrificed to dwellings goes towards increasing its growth.
Smugglers Guild: Allows transport of corpses from heroes stationed in other towns to the Necropolis.
