Create-A-Hero
I think there should be a Creat-A-Hero option in HOMM4. Since all heroes will basically start out the same, and they can all advance to the same types (Assassin, Necromancer, Paladin, etc.), why not have your own unique hero? You can load their face, choose the body type, and pick the opening stats. You would get 6 points to distribute between Atk/Def/Ind/Pwr. You can also choose their bonus out of existing bonuses and what town type they belong to. Of course, there would have to be a limit on how many you can make. 4? And it would only take a second to load them when playing a multi-player game!
Another thought is Create-A-Town. But that might make the game unbalanced and less fun. Just a thought.

Excellent idea!
I think that custom towns could work, too. Prices of units and buildings could be balanced with a built-in feature. This CAN be done. Maybe you have seen the article on http://www.mmportals.com about unit ratings, where the HOMM3 units are listed along with their utility and a fair price for each of them. Visit it.
Also possible would be custom artifacts, custom monsters and custom map locations.

Hero name
I remember Maranthea saying (in one of the recent interviews) that in HOMM4 you must pick a hero and give him a name, but no one has talked about that again. Isn't this part of your wish?
But this feature throws out a question: if you can personalize your heroes, why are the 3DO designers preparing about 200 hero backgrounds? Maybe you can only rename you main hero, if there is a main hero with special treatment in your kingdom.

great idea lordpaul, i would really like to see this feature in h4, or an h4 expansion, either way is good, and i have something to add to ur idea, i think u should be able to edit the pictures from the games in programs like photo editor, or paint, and u can down load other pictures from the net, and cut from the pics, and make ur own picture, and with a scanner u can put a picture of urself in the game, and with the photo editor and paint u can edit the pictures to make them suitable for homm
incubus i think thats an awesome idea to be able to download more creatures from the net, i think 3do should do this, or in the next editor add ALOT more creatures, and more towns, like 4 more, 2 being inferno and fortress, i would like to see these castles back, i think fortress is a great town, just very underrated

Back in the day...
I do remember Marathena saying something about naming a hero after you recruited it. Does this mean you can also edit their picture, biography, starting skills, and specialty?!! MWAAAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!!
Downloading creatures from the Internet might be a little unfair, but I think NWC and 3DO could find some way to make it work.
Putting pictures of yourself in the game would be too confusing, and so would editing the creatures. Maybe just being able to change creatures' color?

In the Sims you can make your own objects and put them into the game. Why not creatures? Of course, we would have to have some really good paint programs!
And I meant to add that you can add any photo to the Create-A-Hero. That's a given.

Talk about a customizable game! My mouth waters just thinking of it.
Maybe with each hero, they could have their own special unit, with its own building in the town of their choice. This special unti would have the greatest affect from the hero's ratings.

Even if they couldn't put Creat-A-Creature in Heroes (imagine your own hand made drawing against their 3D rendered ones ) you should atleast be able to edit them. Like take the Wyvern, give it the Dragons pic, change the color, give it a 2-hex attack, and call it a Young Dragon. You could make entire towns of Dragons!!!

An all-dragon town!? AWESOME!
Look, I know that only having four levels of creatures is going to mess up HOMM4, but a high level of customization could save that. Imagine a Civ-type situation, where everything but the basic game mechanics are editable.

nice idea yes!
Custom creatures
Cant hardly wait to see what the opponent will bring along when we meet in battle
But not realistic I think, cant be realized in the game, programmable/coding I mean.
If possible, it will stay pre-made and a bit make-able
But it still would be nice, imagine what tactics you must play to create your creatures..
(scuse my somewhat terrible English, hope you all understand))

heh... thread necro...
it would be neat if they could make a screen like in the old M&M games to create your hero.. and those stats you rolled would be with you the whole game.. your int, sta, acc, and everything else.. only unlike M&M you cant keep rolling only 3 rolls possible.
I dont like the custom town idea so much though. as for the heroes backround there is no reason that you would not still need that.

I think that creating heroes should be confined to portraits, bios, battlefield avatars (clothing colour etc), speciality and basic stats within parameters for each basic class - no new classes as it would take way too much and we'd be waiting for H5 until 2007.
For example, a magic class can't have as many starting attack points as a might hero, and likewise a might hero's max starting spell points should be lower than a magic starting mage class.
Also, specialities should be included in the stat rolls eg - speciality with a higher level spell should only be possible if you gave a basic magic class hero max spell points, likewise a high level creature speciality should only be for might heroes with max attack or defense depending on the creature.
Other specials, such as Estates, should only be available to those heroes that start with that basic skill, or at least the same alignment as that skill, so a mage could have a specialty with estates/mining, and a death knight could have necromancy as a speciality.
Just to get sidetracked for a sec:
I think an alternative tactics skill should be available to death knights - as leadership is uselsess for them. I think it should be 'Menace'. That whereas normal knights raise the leadership of their own troops - Death Knights should be able to lower that of opposing troops.
Back on topic:
No hero should be able to generate one of their alignments precious resources, so no gems for knights/priests, no mercury for demoniacs/heretics in otherwords.

Has anyone mentioned using the creatures as your hero, like a dragon. As you gain in levels and power, you transform into different dragon types. IE. red, black, blue gold. Having the abillity to have your hero actually attack like breathing fire on your enemy's troops and actual battlefield movement.

That brings up the subject of races. It's been talked about in other threads, and the general gist was that:
If your hero is a particular race - ie - genie, then people would like to see their hero on the battlefield as genie, not a generic genie, but a special hero genie, with different sexes looking different. THEN they wanted each advanced hero class to look different - eg Dark priests to look like a black robed priest and a general to maybe have a funny helmet on or somthing.
And all of this extra bits was just the graphics, not taking into account any racial stats. It was proposed (by me)for eg - that genie heros should have more spell points than usual, minotaurs should have extra attack and so on.
But the more I thought about it it left me wondering. With all the new graphics we want, and with all the new towns and creatures being debated, and with 3D announced for the game, and new spell system and all that.
IF WE ALL GOT WHAT WE WANTED WE'D STILL BE WAITING FOR THE GAME IN 2009!!!
I don't think it's unreasonable to be able to create your heroes along the lines I've already proposed, and I don't think it's too much to have genie heroes animated as genies and all that. If there was a dragon hero or two included I'd certainly want them to be dragons on the battlefield. It's not unreasonable for me to win the lottery 6 weeks in a row. Where does it stop? I'm going nuts.....!!

I think that creating your own hero would be great!!! You could choose custom portraits, starting skills, and write a brief history on the hero.
