Cheating is going to happen in single player and multi-player and there is not much anyone can do to stop it.
Single player cheats are no one's business but the cheater's. As such they may as well be left out of the discussion. Mind your own business when it comes to single player cheating.
Multi-player cheating is another matter. It is a despicable act, done by despicable people, for despicable reasons.
So what are we to do about them?
Well, we are left with dealing with them. Nothing less, nothing more.
If you don't like multi-player cheating then report it as often as you see it. That way the cheaters can be dealt with.
If you don't know what to look for, then how are you going to know it when you see it?
Regardless of Curio's intentions in making this thread ( and to be honest the thread title borders on pointing towards a dishonorable reason, no offense Curio, just an observation ) it does at least offer people the opportunity to recognize some cheats when they happen; and based on that truth, at least some good can come of this thread.

I don't see how it can be difficult for the programmers to ban the console in multiplayer. I bet they just have to alter one variable or something. (Changing the console password is lame, though, since someone will figure it out sooner or later.)
As for map editing and trainers, that's always been a problem, although if you go by the Ubisoft ranking system, the cheater already got away with the win a.k.a. ratings increase before you figured it out (and looked at the save).
Oh well, let's just all play in ToH's ranking system and ignore Ubisoft's score, perhaps?

Does anyone know how to read the Console help? For me I can only page-up three pages and all the commadns I can read start with ui_

No that isnt right.
Cheating isnt needed when in single player.
You Cheat because you want to get further in the game.
You dont cheat because the geame has bugs in it.
No Way!!!
You cheat because you want a quick way to have a little fun and to quickly progress through the game and then show off to friends and say that you finished the game claiming "without cheats" and noticed how i used ", yeah well thats right

If you do have the most experience a human being can possibly posess, and still cannot beat a map without cheating, then that says a lot about the map.
Of the highest exaggeration:
Heroes III. Good luck with 10 spell points, only Magic Arrow as spell, and 1 peasant. That is what your hero starts with. You have no home castle, and are surrounded by 8 heroes all having 8000 Naga Queens.

I just tried multiplayer in hotseat mode, with only computer opponents (the only way I see how to play multiplayer maps solo - is there any other way?) The console works. Scripts (function calls like @Win()) are disabled, but commands like add_army are not! Plus you can see some info about AI actions in the previous turn (perhaps in true multiplayer you can see what human opponents do as well). Now, I wonder if it works the same way when you play over a network or with human opponents in hotseat? Has anyone tried it?
We need the console to test maps, hunt for bugs, overcome bugs, and just to have fun. Console should be completely disabled if and only if there is more than one human player. It's as simple as that.

I agree with some users in this post cheating in multiplayer should be banned.
But I must give you my greatest thanks for this post. Very nice work. Very nice handy document.
Im gonna use the xp cheat and figure out whats the best way of levelin the hero to get different abilities.
Once again nice work.

Why don't they just have it like they did the first 3 games and have codes to type in in singleplayer only..that way the singleplayers would get their cheats, and the Multiplayers would have no cheats?

I REALLY don't like cheats.. I almost never used a cheat in a game in my life unless it was in a game I already finished and just wanted to see something again or the like...

Cheats rule
Anyway, if you are going for the ultimate, or just want to get certain skills, but don't want to have to restart mid-game because you were forced to take a skill that you didn't want, you can peak into the skill tree at the start of the game. Just save and give yourself a bunch of experience, then pick the skills. If no sequence works out, restart and try again.
