Why have Familiars and Phoenixes (I only know these, so far) been tweaked?
Familiars seem inferior to Imps and Phoenixes have 100 HP!
(My WOG version is the latest one, according to the date of this post.)

well.. they weren't.
At the START of the game everything is normal. But then due to some bugs it begins go go wrong.
I didn't know about the imps/familiars bug, but i'll try to track it down.
As for the phoenixes - turn off the monolith toll script.
...yes, monolith toll . I know it doesn't have anything to do with creature tweaks, but this is the problem (it had a shared variable with the rebalanced creature script, and the second script itself had a bug in it too). This bug will be fixed in the newest patch.
EDIT: I did a little testing and found no bug concerning the imps. Are you sure it wasn't just "the week of the imp"? imps should then get 2-3 damage and 5 HP (+ other things) making them indeed more powerful than familiars. The bonuses are taken away next week.

Hm... yeah, I think it was Imp week, indeed.
As for the Phoenixes, I thought it was intentional, ie, "Phoenixes have growth 3 and fly, breath, resurrect and are cheap, let's tweak it!".
What I found strange is the fact that no one, apparently, noticed this... I thought I was missing something obvious or even had woggified wrong

Indeed to me it was also strange when I tracked that bug down a few weeks ago.
It hasn't been noticed during many beta tests of 3.58, 3.58F, not after the release, also not during the tests of my 'New Upgrades' patch.... and after all it is one of the most important units in the game (upg. level 7, main power of Conflux)...
perhaps the monolith toll script is just not very popular...
And as for tweaking the phoenix then yes - some scripters think it is indeed too powerful. that's why we have the 'rebalanced creatures', 'enhanced creatures' options and the option of 'reduce conflux firebird/phoenix growth'. I don't use any of these, but if you think the phoenix should be toned down then you may want to consider using these (though the rebalanced creatures will still reduce your phoenixes to 100 HP I guess).
