That did it. (It WASN'T read-only, but just the fact that I checked to make sure it wasn't seemed to do the trick.) Thanks so much for helping a newbie out.

I'm playing HOMM V (patch 1.4) on a MacBook Pro, but if I want to use cheats, I have to type the following signs: "@" and "()". But it seems like that part of my keyboard (the second row of buttons: @&é"''(§è!çàà)- ) is disabled in the game (except '), is this normal? How can I enable these keys? Or is there a work around?

OK read only isn't checked and I can't get them to work at all...does Windows Vista make a difference?

I have Heroes V patch 1.5 on an iMac, and I want to learn to cheat, but none of the activation codes have worked with me so far; they seem to only work for Windows. Is there a specific code for Macs?

@illgetya: my guess is that you are not administrator under Vista, so it doesn't let you write under "Program Files". Try with administrator privileges.
@neksoj, Lord_Axolon: Did you open the console before typing the cheat commands?
@Zerofaith: indeed, GiveHeroSkill() now checks the requirements, exactly like gaining the skill in-game. There is no workaround for now. Maybe in ToE.

Yes, I opened the console. Cheats like add_army and add_money and so on work, but the @, &, é, ", ', (, §, è, !, ç, à,   buttons are disabled it seems... So cheats which require @, (, ) I can't use...

Are you sure you cannot type those by holding Shift or Option or whatever you have on your MacBook?

Yes, I am sure, just tried it for the ...th time. There is an alternative key for the @ button by pressing "option" + "`", but that doesn't work neither. And even if it would work, there are nog alternative keys for the "(" and ")". I even tried it by copy-past (placed the characters in a document and then copied it and tried to past it in game, but even that didn't work). Probably a mac bug. Or are here other mac users who don't have that problem?

First, I really appreciate this thread and all the work that's gone into it...Thank you.
Now, I am installed with all 5 patches and, so far, all the cheats have worked great. I played a game upto Campain 2, mission 1 and then made some errors I didn't want to have to overcome, so I began again. I used the same skills (and ALL the accompaning attributes) as I had in my first try (counterstrike, leadership, war machines, attack, defense, sorcery) as well as all the spells.
PROBLEM: At the beginning of each new day, I get dead creatures added to my army. I know that when doing the @TeachHeroSkill(".....), I accidentally typed in some attribute #s I didn't have the basic skills for. I didn't think I could give the attribute without the skill.
I need help finding out the # of the attribute that summons dead guys every day and instructions on how the get rid of it. I really don't want to start over again...adding all those spells individually is a real pain.
Thanks for any help.

Found it! #102, Herald of Death under Leadership.
It causes all neutral creatures joining to turn into their dead equivelant.
Is there is a code written yet to remove a hero skill?
Thanks.

Hello
Is there any way to remove skills?
Some heroes have start-skills for example 'tactics' and i need to remove it to reach the fractions ultimate skill. I dont want to edit any hero, so is there a cheat like "AddHeroSkill" to remove the skills?
Hope you can help me...

I've never seen a cheat code that could do this :/
It may not be a nice substitute, but alternatively you could first take all other skills and then add the ultimate with a cheat code.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but several pages back people mentioned that adding skills only worked in the same way as the game would have it: only perks that you can get if the base skill allows it, prerequisites all met, etc..
In patch 1.5, it seems to be reverted back to what it was; you can add skills regardless of "slotspace" on your base skill, and you can add skills beyond your limit as well. I just tested it with Findan and gave him the Flaming Arrows (tested it, and they worked). That was skill 4 under Attack for him .
However, once you have all base skill slots filled up, you can no longer add skills and perks.

Try using "@Win()" instead of "@win()". Commands in the console are case-sensitive.

Maurice is right.
By the way, the crash at the end of a map is usually caused by starting a map in a certain version of the game, then applying a patch, and finishing the map. If @Win() doesn't work, you'll have to restart the map (from the campaign menu).
