Ah, the guilty party all in one place. The ones who came in and spammed the heck out of HC, and drove away some long term members. You guys probably have no idea how much HC has changed in the last six months. And you probably have no idea you guys are largely responsible for that.
I don't care if you spam. But you guys spammed every thread in every forum. There are different forums for a reason. Most people hung out in just one or two of them because it had stuff they liked to talk about. I don't care if you spam, as long as it's in the right place. So why should you care if someone wants to talk about serious stuff? That's what the Other Side was for.
But now the Tavern and Other Side have become spamfests. And some of the other forums got spammed also until you guys got chased off....and some of you even got threatened with penalties because of it. <----those are dots, I like to use them. VW was created in the first place to keep the spam out of other forums. You can't even tell the difference between the Tavern and Other Side any more. Long posts like I make used to be normal in the Other Side. There were quite a few of them every day. Some people just enjoy writing. Or they enjoy a good discussion about politics or other serious subjects. I always liked hearing what people around the world thought about things. That type of discussion used to be normal in the Other Side, but not any more. There are other reasons it started to change, but all your spam had a LOT to do with it. <----those are caps, I like them too.
I mean seriously, why does every single thread have to get spammed? When new members join they see it and start doing the same thing. The whole thing just snowballs.
Yea, our thread was probably a stupid idea and will just scroll off the page soon. And I admit, your thread sounds like a lot more fun. The whole reason we started it was because we were spamming other threads and it was too much to talk about with HCM. PH was one of the old gang and he already stopped in. Maybe some more will. It doesn't matter what's in the thread. The people we wanted to see it will see it, if they are lurking around somewhere.
BTW <----I like that one too. Some of the non-English speakers use English words I don't know what they mean. I wish they'd stop doing that. It makes me feel like an idiot.

Well I probably shouldn't be the one responding to this but I am here and impulsive so I will
Quote: You guys probably have no idea how much HC has changed in the last six months.
You are right, I don't know, although I have spent a loooong time looking through old threads. What I have noticed is that:
The tavern used to include alot of spam. Alot of the threads in there would have only lasted a week in the VW before being on the last page ready for deletion. Some of them even recieved QPs. I don't have an issue with any of this - just the comparison. Maybe you could have a look through the 40+ pages of the Tavern and check it out. You know sometimes we remember the good old days alot better than they actually were because we have fond memories of them. I have fond memories of the last 6 months here, go figure.
{Long Live ICTC}
Quote: So why should you care if someone wants to talk about serious stuff? That's what the Other Side was for.
Agreed, but do we start a thread saying only oldtimers welcome go away everyone else you spammers?
I don't think there is all that much spam in the Other side, OK maybe there is a little, but in the really serious threads in there it is very little - it is very rarely "off topic spam".
To me the "Other Side" - represents discussion about real life issues/experiences, not necessarily 'serious' ones. Please correct me if this is a misunderstanding.
Quote: VW was created in the first place to keep the spam out of other forums.
I heard that VW was created as a place where threads posted in other forums went to die slowly before deletion. Again, correct my ignorance.
Quote: You can't even tell the difference between the Tavern and Other Side any more.
I disagree
Quote: always liked hearing what people around the world thought about things. That type of discussion used to be normal in the Other Side, but not any more
.
You can start these threads, if they are interesting people will respond. I think that no one seems to care much about anything anymore, that is a problem
Quote: I mean seriously, why does every single thread have to get spammed?
fair enough, I guess I don't venture out of the VW enough to see this happening...
Quote: Yea, our thread was probably a stupid idea
It was a good idea but it was a slap in the face, isn't that what you meant it to be?
Quote: The whole reason we started it was because we were spamming other threads and it was too much to talk about with HCM... The people we wanted to see it will see it, if they are lurking around somewhere.
Kool I hope I can come back here in a coupla years time and see some familiar faces too
BTW Thank you for the responses you made in my Supermarket thread It is nice when someone agrees with me

Man, I thought I was about to get out of here, but I'm impulsive too.
First I'd like to make something very clear. After I started that thread, at least twice I looked at it and thought about editing the post saying something like "I hope this doesn't sound like it's supposed to be some exclusive club, because everyone is welcome to post, blah blah". Then I thought, nah nobody is going to misinterpret that. So I didn't do it. I really thought nobody would interpret it that way. So I apologize to anyone who took it as an insult. I'll hang my head in shame and you can throw rotten tomatoes at me.
The "go away" part was really more half joke and half serious. Anyone was welcome to post, I just didn't want a bunch of spam. There have been people at HC who were almost nothing but spam. But every person in this thread has made good quality posts. There's a place for everything and I didn't want spam in that thread. I wasn't trying to exclude anyone. I guess what I'm saying is that I was serious about not wanting spam, but the way I said it was joking. Did I just confuse the heck out of you?
And the list of names. Yea, I'd like to see some of them drop by and say hi. Nothing wrong with that is there?
To address a few things you said all at once. Yea, there has always been spam and off-topic in every forum. And it's always been a problem. It's just that it started getting a lot worse. I know why some people left, but I can't say for sure why some of the others did. I really believe what I said about the spam being a big part of it though. Even with me, I didn't leave, but I definitely shifted my attention from the Other Side to the Library. Most of the type threads I used to post in just seemed to disappear. There are still good threads, but it slowed down. That and the people leaving, I just sort of lost interest.
Quote: Agreed, but do we start a thread saying only oldtimers welcome go away everyone else you spammers?
Already addressed, but just a note. I'm still a noob to the real oldtimers.
Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can't even tell the difference between the Tavern and Other Side any more.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I disagree
I don't mean that quite literally, but the two have gotten closer together. (I tend toward a little drama sometimes to make a point)
Quote: You can start these threads, if they are interesting people will respond.
As you may have noticed on more than one occasion, I'm not very good at starting threads. I usually just jump in another thread I like. OK, I know, that's a cop-out.
Quote: I heard that VW was created as a place where threads posted in other forums went to die slowly before deletion. Again, correct my ignorance.
I always thought of that as kind of a secondary use of VW. The VW was for spam and threads were, and still are, created there. If a thread in another forum was spam or "short term interest", it went to VW. At least that's the way I understood it.
Quote: BTW Thank you for the responses you made in my Supermarket thread
That's a good example. You can never say which threads will catch on. But with some of the old crowd, I could see a thread like that taking off for at least a few pages of good discussion. I think someone like Svarog would have jumped on that one. He's, um, let's just say he's not a capitalist.
One last thing before I go to bed. Don't ever take me too seriously or literally even if I'm being serious. Even in my serious posts I'll throw a joke in the middle of it, I'd go crazy without it. The butt in the mirror was a joke. It was a real conversation, but it was a joke. I was only very mildly interested if people really looked at their butt. And Russ, wasn't that you who said one of my posts was the funniest thing you ever read at HC? Hey, I'm only a part time nerd. So lighten up, and keep the spam where it belongs and let us nerds wear our pocket protectors and dorky glasses....and maybe Kookastar can help us out with that virginity problem. Get it? Joke. I happen to LIKE being a virgin.

I am making an oath now that if you ever start a new thread in the Other Side that is open, I will write you a looooooong post - serious - and I may even include references
In return I'd like to see a little more spam from you here in the VW... K

I'm sick of hearing about your good old days, I see nothing special in your past discussions in the tavern or in the other side. And most of your so called "serious" and "interesting" threads died without even one reply, or maybe had one reply after a year. Like PHs thread on Israels weapons or something, it was so boring that even though I am an Israely and would normaly like to read about my country and maybe reply something, found it a snoozefest and almost fell asleep at my pc.
Personaly I can't understand whom are you calling spammers? Please expand on this statement and let us know who are those spammers, I'm very intrigued
Edit: I get it that you are accusing everyone in this thread of being spammers is that it?
It also seems to me that you think that you are better than all of us as a member? And that your "oldtimes" buddies could put us all in their small pockets...
I am not ready to respond to you, I am not friendly towards you and certainly I wouldn't want to become dudes with you!

The way I see it, most of the old-time regular members left because of the BS incident. These members thought the spammers had taken over and, thus, they ditched HC. That's one of the silliest things I've witnessed around here, and it's practically a crying shame. Today's HC situation isn't too big a mess, in my opinion. It could be cleaned up in many ways, but it's far from an eyesore.
And as for the lack of serious discussion in the Other Side, I think things are just unfolding after numerous discussions about most of the stand-out topics have been covered in the last how many years. Same goes for the Tavern and Library, in fact. So unless people think up some nice new topics to discuss (that might take some extra thought and an HC Search just to be safe), I think we'll risk "doubling back" on old subjects.

Even though im not a long time HC member, but i really need to voice out something.
There is such a thing called Moderators and Age Gaps in this world.
I really think imo that Moderators are the only one that has the job of cleaning the spams. So i guess if the mods do nothing about all these threads, that means it aint a spam??
Also within age gaps problems, it is all around other forums too. Some ppl who are around 19 yr old would like some light threads like William's thread/GG/Tnt's ones. For me, i like to read (you can hardly see me post, but i can tell you i come to HC everyday without signing in ) more than write and most of the threads i go to are mainly in VW .
So i guess it is better to chill and get back to topics guys (FoG/TnT and Russ) and bring some laughter to HC ......

I often find it too frustrating to come up with new topic ideas these days. Thus, I'm heading into the comic business, like Woock, Daddy, and others have done in the past. Mine will never really match theirs, but at least there are some cool topics to work with. And I've got a top secret project that will see the light of day in maybe half a year or so.
Oh and in response to your sig, R.E.M. and XJapan don't really compare. Two different ballparks, in my opinion. But like other instances here at HC, it really doesn't surpise me that metal fanatics don't have a taste for R.E.M.'s music. It's like getting a death metal fan to enjoy a Glenn Yarbrough LP.
And also, I cannot find XJapan CDs anywhere here in Hawaii. I'm trying to find the album with "Tears" on it, but it doesn't appear to be sold in Tower and other stores. I even tried Shirokiya, but I cannot read the Japanese characters! I guess I gotta look harder, then...

Each of you is neither half as good as he thinks he is, nor half as bad as the other thinks he is.
That said :
I wish Bin's nostalgia didn't keep him from truly seeing and enjoying the current era's merits (ie when will you finally install MSN, you old bum you )
I wish TNT's newly found Pandora's Box of QPs didn't keep him from truly seeing and enjoying the stone age's merits (ie when will you start proposing some of my posts for QPs, instead of just you and Fog helping each other's out, you teenage bum you )

I didn't want to start a flamewar, but I knew it would probably happen. Flamewars suck. I usually don't respond to attacks, but this was so blatant I felt I needed to.
TNT, it doesn't matter if you don't like certain threads or think they're boring, that's fine. That's my point though. HC is divided into areas so different people with different interests have a place to go. And they can ignore the forums that don't interest them. Somewhere like the Glade is pretty obvious what it's about. VW, Tavern and Other Side all are about almost any subject. The difference is whether it's shooting the ****, some serious discussion, or whatever. Everyone can pick whatever interests them and hang out there. Some people like Acu post all over, but that's not typical.
If you don't want to read about Israeli weapons, then don't. I didn't read it either. I thought PHs idea of education articles was a good idea, but it never went anywhere. There's lots of threads all over HC that never went anywhere. Sometimes it's a matter of luck as much as anything else. There's something for everybody and a place to put it.
Quote: I get it that you are accusing everyone in this thread of being spammers is that it?
No, not everyone. But you're one, and you were one of the worst. I'll make clear again. I don't CARE if you spam, as long as you don't do it where it doesn't belong. Notice I said "you were one of the worst". Much of what I was talking about happened in the past. There was a time when it seemed you were posting one-liners and spam in threads all over HC.
And yes I_HaT3, the mods DID get involved. They gave out a lot of warnings and became a lot more aggressive cleaning threads.
I don't care about spam or off-topic, even if it's in a serious thread. As long as there's not too much of it so it ruins the thread. I've spammed and posted off topic many times myself, and probably most other people have. I've also gone back and deleted it later when I knew it messed up the thread. Other times I leave it if it's not too bad (or if I'm just being lazy).
Quote: It also seems to me that you think that you are better than all of us as a member? And that your "oldtimes" buddies could put us all in their small pockets...
You don't know me at all. The truth is I absolutely hate snobs. When I meet one in RL, I want to punch them or push their nose in the mud so it's not stuck up so high. If I like someone, I like them. I hang out with just about anyone. I did remodeling and built houses for several years. Some of those customers would walk right past us like we were nothing more than servants. They had to put up with us to get their fancy house built...a house none of us could ever afford. Or they backed away because we had a little dirt on us or smelled like sweat because we actually worked for a living. And a lot of people have some stupid stereotype that carpenters or mechanics are a bunch of idiots with a third grade education...when that's not even close to the truth. You get the idea.
As for "oldtimes buddies". I didn't even know most of those people very well. I just liked posting in the same kind of threads as them.
A lot of the spam threads sound like fun. I don't post there because I don't have the time to post in every forum. I don't jump in and flirt with the girls because they are too young for me, simple as that. And I don't post in a thread that has nothing but the letter "k" because, well, that was pretty freekin bad. I like talking about music, but I never heard of half the bands people list.
Sorry about spamming the VW with my long posts. Just look at it like a whole bunch of short posts all in one.

Try listening to some Metals Songs. A few days ago, my friend and i just convert a non-metal listener into one . We are surely more successful than some christian that try to convince us to join them a few days ago....
I will post some good songs titles in your Music Threads on XJapan...Any other good bands to introduce??
