Gom's Weekly Test

Ok now boys and girls. Inspired by one of the greatest threads in the WOG Forum, Wlaad's Weekly Wog, I just thought opening a somehow similar thread here. Since many of you think of themselfs to be quite smart, lets see what you are really made of. Every Monday, starting from now, I will supply you with a fresh test and, in case noone has found it yet, the answer to the previous one. I will keep the score.
Good luck to you all!

Test No.1

"I was reading just the other day on page 18 of a small magazine, full of text and with no pictures in it, that in a small town, where usually there are the lowest temperatures in the country, in early May, although the temperature was moderate during the day, during the night the temperature suddenly dropped and it began snowing so hard that a layer of snow 1 meter thick was formed. I quickly turned the page to see what's so curios about it. And so I found out that exactly 72 hours after it snowed there were such high temperatures and the sun was so hot that it melted the layer of snow in only a couple of hours."

 Question:

There are two mistakes in this story. For each mistake found you will receive 2 points.

 Score Board

1. angelito - 10 points
2. FriendOfGunnar- 7 points
3. dschingi - 4 points
4. Iris     - 3 points
5. Loki     - 1 point

1. Page 18 is on the left of a book, so page 19 is on the right. No need to turn page to see the next site then.

2. 72 hours are exactly 3 full days (24h). Means, it was exactly the same time again. But is was during the night when it snowed (when the temperature always falls), so 72 hours later, itīs again night and again cold. No melting!

It's all good.  I had been staring at it for a while before I got the 18 page one.

And if it's okay, I got some too.

You have 2 sticks of incense.  Each burns for exactly one hour.  However, the sticks are not uniformally distributed (half a stick does NOT equal half an hour).  Using these two sticks of incense, how can you tell when exactly 45 mins has past?

You can't. Plus don't you have a watch, dear ? lmao

Seriously I have no idea. Can I have the solution ?

One of my own if it's okay too :

Two rooms, one with 3 and the other with 3 switches. Switches and go by exclusive pairs (each switch commands one and only one ). You can use the switches as much as you like, but you're only allowed to enter the room once. How can you identify all three switch / pairs for certain ?

Legend, I'll HCM the answer to you when I get home.  I can't log in right now.

And the answer to yours:

Turn 2 lights on and leave it for a while.  Then turn one off.  Enter the room.  You have a lit one, an unlit one, and a hot and unlit one.  Problem solved.

Too bad I can't post an answer now and impress everyone I've heard this one like 8 years ago...

Now - here is a really good one (I was the only one in my Physics class who solved it - my Physics teacher gave it to us as a "homework", but on the next day he just assumed that noone solved it and started writing out the solution.) Here it goes:
You are looking at the sunset on the beach (romantic, isn't it? ). You have a stopwatch and a ruler. Measure the radius of the Earth.

LM...most of those riddles arenīt that hard to solve. You just have to think about ALL possibilities u have.

Iīll give u a hint:
1 stick needs 60 minutes to burn down completely. Any chance of measuring 30 minutes, even though, it doesnīt burn "constantly" so u couldnīt just stop after half of it burned down....?

That's precisely my problem. No point breaking the sticks either... I can vaguely sense the second stick coming into play, but can't focus enough to follow that lead right now. I dunno, something like you let one stick burn for some time before you light the second one... Then again, I err... Lmao. Let's say my mind is a bit hazy at the moment.

Legend, I figured yours out pretty quickly because my choices were really limited.

Russ, the way you figure out yours is to take an object as your reference.  Measure how much the shadow of that object moves in 1 minute, and then multiply that distance by 1440 (min/day).  This gives you the distance the Earth rotates (circumference).  Divide this number by 2*pi to get the radius?

Angelito, now you got me trying to figure out my own puzzle.    Hahahaha.  I think it has something to do with burning it in the middle now, which would make the stick 15 mins long, but...  Okay, this one is going to take a while longer.  I'll edit my post when I get home.  If I figure it out by then.

Edit: Angelito, I think I got the 40 mins one. A little hard to describe though. One stick at a time, you light one end, and you light the middle. On one side, the incense will burn out (because it's technically burning on both ends). When this happens, you light the middle of the other side. You keep doing this until the whole incense burns out (should be 20 mins). You do the same with the other stick to get 40 mins.

No. Really far off. However, you seem to have discovered an extremely obvious, yet very important fact while thinking about the solution - it should help you find the correct solution

Ok, I'll give you one more hint: this isn't exactly a problem that is easy to solve in your head (unless you are a genious). You may want to use a pen and a paper to make a sketch.

Guys... please. The thread is called "Gom's Weekly Test", not "Angelito's Weekly Test" or "IRISCANNOTPOST'sIris's Weekly Test" so please let me handle it. It seems like I underestimated some of you guys ( gogo Angelito) by starting with a fairly easy one, so i'll post another.

  Test No.2 :

"A ship had X ship funnels, Y propelers and T passangers. It lifted its anchor on the day N of the month P of the year 1900+Z. If you multiply this numbers (X*Y*T*N*P*Z) and add the square root of the captain's age you end up with the number 4752862.

 Question:
Find the numbers!!!
It may seem like a joke since you seem like you end up with an ecuation that has 7 unknowns but it's not. It's just a matter of logic and elementary mathematics. Have fun.

On the 1-st Jan of 1901, a ship that had 1 funnel, 1 propeller and 4752855 passengers lifted its anchor. Its captain was 49 years old.

OK guys (and girls), this is Gumīs thread, and we should follow his rules.
I found my (very very) old riddle thread, which i created about a year ago. If u have any other riddles, post them in that thread and let this one be Gumīs riddles only.
Here u can find the antique riddle thread.

Wow. Extraordinary, if I think you've done it all by yourself
But, unfortunatelly you only got the wrong answer.

1*1*1*1*1*4752855+sqrt(49) = 4752862 That is one of many correct answers. It does not break any laws of logic either. (Yes, it could pose a problem to the engineers who design that ship, but it seems to be perfectly fine from the logic+math point of view )
