Town-Castle Upgrades

I heard this quite some time ago(I think on a website) that it was going to take much longer to build up your Castle, so that late in the games you still had something to look forward to. Can anyone verify this?

In one of the movies available on gamespot Jeff Blattner tells that it will take a lot longer to build up towns and you probably wont have all of your towns completely upgraded.

This is probably motivated by there being overall more structures in the towns. The number has increased by perhaps 2-3. On the other hand has the upgraded creature dwellings disappeared, although this could be compensated by more upgrades elsewhere.

The part about not building everything can also be motivated by there being less prerequisites for builds. Would you for instance build a Tavern in a City, if it wasn't required for the Town Hall and City Hall building? The same question on the Blacksmith for the City Hall. How often do you build a Shipyard in one of your Towns in heroes 3? (Usually, when you've exhausted all other options?)

The Prison is also a building you may want to build in some towns, but I'd probably not build it in many towns.

Another consideration on this is that many will probably focus on buying creatures and increasing income instead of building up towns. (Rush tactics). 14 builds/town in Heroes 3 have become 5 builds/town in Heroes 4.

My guess is also that you won't have the resources to build up all (Wood, Ore, Mercury, Sulphur, Gems, and Crystal)

yeah

I like this idea. it would make game play more challenging. In homm3 it is so easy to get all buildings and structures

Then I can see this being a lot more fun. I could see even a Lvl3 creature being very strong because of the upgrades being so hard.

There's also the question of mage guilds ...no use building the higher levels until you have a hero that can use 'em, and getting to Grandmaster in any school of magic will be a bit of a long road.

I also have the sneaking hunch that things will be more expensive to build in Heroes4, requiring longer to acquire the necessary resources. That's why I'm not too worried about the no "one building per day" feature in H4. After week one, I think we'll be scrambling for resources.

Also, with the lower level dwellings producing creatures more often, resources that may have gone into building may get diverted to beefing up your armies.

One of the more challenging aspects to HOMM has always been resource management. I think it's going to be even more challenging in H4, and that means longer, more spread out town development.

Good that it will take longer to build the castle. That was a major problem. Also, it should take long to build differant buildings. Example: For Mage Guild Level 2-5, it take 2 days because you need to process all of those resources and actually build the guild itself. Example #2: It should take less than a day to build a level 1 creature dwelling, 1 day to build a level 2 dwelling, 4 for a level 3, and a week to build a level 4 dwelling.
