best balanced game imho is now homm3 WT www.heroeswt.net
patches for SOD haven't become popular as it takes too much time to discuss and make settings.

heroeswt.net and heroes-III.com are two different sites.
Actually on WT there is less need for rules, because most of them are in game.

How about making the Protection spells just one spell: Protection from Spells. Basic: 20% resistance from damage. Advanced to expert: 40%. Make it level 2 spell?

Dunno if its still on but:
Patches shouldn't change anything expect obvious exploits, like fly, DD, angel wings, skeleton hoarding, phoenix growth, diplo, joining monsters, hillfort, carto. Everything else, like getting a useless eagle eye skill or seacaptain hat and hurting your own troops with magogs is part of the game and shouldn't be changed. Play wog if it isn't enough.

Fight value (not sure, perhaps it's used during setting guards) current setting example: Pikeman's Fight Value is 100, Archangel's is 6033.
AI Value (not sure, perhaps it's used by AI to determine which guards to fight first) current setting example: Pikeman's AI Value is 80, Archangel's is 8776.
Interestingly, it's the other way round. Fight value is almost unused in the exe file, only twice as far as I can tell. One occurence is (guess) the Whirlwind, the dying creatures are compared according to the Fight value (a few lowest die).
The other occurence is much more interesting. The fonction seems to assess a target combat value of a unit stack. I'm 100% sure it is related to AI spell targetting, positive AND negative. It affects probably all AI targetted spells. But there is more, and it may even touch the AI attack target selection (shot in the dark). Extensive testing may prove it.
The other value ("AI value") is used a lot throughout the exe. No idea about it, although there are a few hints it may be used for AI strategical army strength assessment, among other things.
Now, if we look at the Fight values again, there are a lot of astonishing nubmers. Halberdiers, for instance, have the same value as Archers and Marksmen (!). So, quite probably, when AI casts blind spell and it has a stack with 25 archers and 24 marksmen to choose from, it will go for the archers. Same problem may be found with Wood/Grand Elves. Overall, AI value column seems to be much better in assessing real danger than the Fight column, that is actually used. Pit Lord, Vampire Lord have generally lower valuation, although they should be primary targets for AI.
Fight value is far from being the only factor. But a good run of tests with changed values could lead to an improved AI performance, minimally in the spellcasting area.

Hi, i want to change some secondary skills, and some spells, but i don't know how to do it. I was able to modify some spells and creatures with txt files, but that wasn't enough for me, for example i want to change the mysticism skill to give more sp points, because it's almost useless compared to an offense skill. For spells, i want to decrease the area of berserk spell...
I haven't find anything on internet about that, except the txt files and WoG, but WoG is too much for me, i want to play the original heroes 3 with some changes.
I hope someone still reads this forum...

what do you mean "too much"? If "too many changes", then use ERA platform, it's almost the same as SOD. If "too difficult to write ERM scripts" then abandon your ideas as there is no other way except txt-files or ERM (not speaking about assembler, reverse-engineering, DLL patches)

WoG has too many changes, and i can't turn them all off. So i thought it would be better to change the original version. There must be a way to do it, otherwise how could the creators of this game make it? Lol, i want little changes and barely anyone can even do that, and they (3DO?) made the whole game.
Why is it so difficult?
Why none knows how to edit it properly?
Is there a tool or program the crew of 3DO used to make this game, or make changes?
Has anyone ever tried to contact with the programmers who made the game?
Sorry for bad english.

try homm3 WT version www.heroeswt.net. you can switch on/off most of the options
Quote: There must be a way to do it, otherwise how could the creators of this game make it?
they had source codes. no one will share source codes for free, the cost is 1-2 million dollars including "HoMM" brand name cost.

Its getting kinda off-topic but...
"they had source codes. no one will share source codes for free, the cost is 1-2 million dollars including "HoMM" brand name cost."
Can you really get the entire Homm brand + source code of a version for just 2 million dollars? The brand should be worth more I think, considering its really old series and extremely popular in some places. If they would sell suchh packed, I would imagine that source code is like 5% of the price.

i agree that cost of source codes is not high. but no one will give them for free. i think that Ubisoft has paid $1M for package (brand+codes)

Hello there.
Thanks to you all I have some knowledge of how to make/modify templates. B4 [Objects.txt] and C2 [artraits.txt] patches helps a lot. But there are still some annoying things.
Now I want to remove spell scrolls from appearing. Tried to do it the same way as Necklace of Ocean Guidance etc in C2 patch (removing x from misc or even tried adding x to spell book or.. tried changing cost to a huge value like 999999), but those changes made no effect - they were still on map as usual.
Maybe that [remove spell scrolls] is possible through Objects.txt ?
I have no idea how to modify anything in that file and couldn't find anything that could help me understand. If that file is explained somewhere, could someone kindly give me a link? Or some other means that could help me understand how to deal with that Objects.txt file. Probably some nice things could be achieved with it.
Anywho.. there is something else I wanted to share.
Have you ever seen Azure dragon on a random map? Okay, maybe you have. BUT. Have you seen Azure dragon guarding a gold mine or a Naga bank? How about 3 rust dragons in front of level 4 dwelling? Or.. 65 sharpshooters guarding a Refugee camp..
All those numbers are for day one.
I think that's fun to see these kind of thing in treasure zone.
Lowering Fight Value and AI Value (it seems that generator minds only AI value, but I modify both of them) in crtraits.txt makes specific creature to guard less valuable stuff..
Azure dragon have fight value of 56315 while Archangel have something like 6000..
So if you lower value for Azure dragon to 20000, and in rmg.txt file make border guard value 60000, there might appear 3 Azure dragons.
But if you lower it to 100 (as much as pikemen) then you might see a horde of Azure dragons guarding your ore mine, hehe.
It might be interesting lowering value for all creatures by half.. that would make random map with more/stronger guards everywhere.
Also, I remind you to give me some info on Objects.txt :]

Best way to play Homm3 in 2012?
Hi!
What would you consider to be the best way to play homm3? I mean what are the best mods to use and so on...
Is there some universal way to remove fly and DD spells and angel wings and so on from the game? Not only from random maps but from downloaded maps also. Without having to modify them in the map editor. I also really hate teleports do can i get rid of them appearing in the random maps?
I downloaded the SAG's .txt files and i just throw them in the \data folder? Seems too easy
What about the heroesWT thing? What is it? is it only for online games? I only play hot seat :/
Thanks in advance! Heroes 3 is still the best of the series in my opinion 5 was good too, but the 6 is just horrible at least at the moment

Is there any script (or hot to make a script) that will reduce firebird/phoenix growth to 2 per week?

I don't see any, but one from default WoG options (reduce phoenix growth), however it works a bit different. It's easy to do any script which change default creature type/growth for any Town, if you agree that day 1 creature growth may not match. But the easiest way would use at least one function, and I don't want to make it incompatible with any wogify script/map script, so if you agree it would be for ERA (they have much more unique function numbers availible, so it's easier to avoid conflict) I may try to write one for you. It may took me some time because I have not as much free time as I want and I know some ERM commands better than another (some perfect, some poorly).
But since H3Complete followers found nice to modify txt tables, I think I'll also have to give them a shot (I usually don't touch the tables, because it need to provide whole table file, which seems not good for compability). But since I use WoG/ERA I know most of the tables I would like to touch (Objects.txt, Hetraits.txt, Sptraits.txt, etc.) have a twin files in WoG with "Z" inside name. Could anybody explain when which one of pair is used? Is there any use of ones without Z and having a pair in WoG/TE/ERA engine? I surely will use some of the tables in future mod for WoG/ERA.

Mister The_Horn
Download CrTraits.txt from here: http://failiem.lv/u/kqcslwp
Put this in your h3 Data folder.
That should work for the h3 Complete version as long as you have it in your Data folder.
But I'm not sure if host is the only one who needs that. Maybe all players need that file.
It could be like one player will get 2 per week, and the other gets 4..
I can't test this alone.
So don't get burned and test it.
