Very nice thread!

A couple of questions:

1. I like to know if it's possible to replace (not eliminate) ojects in 'ojects.txt' by just crude replacing of strings directly with other objects? So you could have multiple of the exactly same strings.

2.

Is it possible to specify how many recruitable guards dwellings can accumulate? I know dwellings use the same base grows as towns, so you cannot set a higher grows without messing up towns (at least I think so).

3.

It's difficult to see a pattern for eliminating certain artefacts when comparing the original 'artraits.txt' to a edited one that eliminates some of them. Sometimes just a single charectors like 'N' was replaced with 'J', but others are more complex, it seems.

it's possible to have 2 same objects with different picture/animation.  if i understand the question correctly

Okay, I'll give you an example of what I mean.

If I were to delete the string for a cartographer buiding, say, the 'AVXmaps0.def' string, but replace it with the string for the 'Cover of Darkness' (AVXcovr0.def). Wouldn't the result be that 'AVXmaps0.def' wouldn't be generated at all, however, 'AVXmaps0.def' would be generated more often in a random generated map?

Also, I'll try a proper editor guys to look at the artifacts again.

Hi all!

I hope this i a suitable thread for my question.

At the moment i am editing my heroes 3 complete with MMArchive. I still replaced some creatures. For example i took the dark minotaur king from Hero of Light Mod. It works fine but i have a problem with the creature images. I don't find a way to replace them.

Example:



You can see the new minotaur, but the picture shows the old one.

Does anybody know a way to replace these images?

Maybe something like this could be made.

1-We start with heroes 3 with lastest official patches and expansions.

2-People post specific changes they want the game to have.
2.1-While posting some change, if some change can be split into 2 or more, and you think those just putting one of those sub-changes would still make the game better, you split your change into those sub-changes and post it.

3-We get all those posts and vote them.
3.1People give votes on those ideas giving scores from 1 to 10.
3.2If some thing has a score over X/10, it will be on the game.
3.2.1If something that won contradict with other stuff that won, we vote again to see which one will continue.

4-After it we get the list of stuff that won and get the easiest change to code and implement it on the game and release it.

5-Now that the game changed, we look at the list of stuff that won but was not implemented, and vote to see based on what the game is right now, what stuff we will keep and what we will remove from the list of stuff to put on the game.

6-After it people post more ideas based on what is going to be on the game (list of stuff to implement) and how the game is right now.
The stuff that get a score of x/10 go to the list of stuff to implement.
7-We get the easiest change to code from this list and put it in the game.

8-Go back to 5

PS:My idea sound complex but...
the reason behind it is.
1-We start the modding part with the game we play. And so we will not start with pre changed stuff people may not like.
2-People post specific changes we want because this is decided by players that play it, instead of the guys that make the mod only.
3-People give votes with score, because with that we avoid the justin bieber problem where he is hated by many and yet he is on the charts because the guys that hate him have no way to influence the charts with his vote.
4-the "if something that won contradict with..." part exist because 2 ideas that contradict with each other would win and we would need something to fix that issue.
5-The split your idea into minor ideas, is made because sometimes people would not like your entire idea but would like part of it, if you think have part of the idea is still a good think, you split the idea into 2 and increase the odds of having it into the game.

Like some, I've pretty much had it with the use of the computer using dimension door and fly all over the place. I know at some point in the game it's always going to be used by them, but seeing 4-5 of them doing this just is too much for me, especially when I never got town portal.

I've read through this whole thread before asking what it is.

What about Conflux getting the grail that gives them all spells. Will the spells still be disabled once the grail is placed there?
I know it says the spells are disabled for mage guilds, but considering it needs the grail, it made me wonder, as I read something about how dimension door was disabled, but when the Conflux base used the grail, they got it in their mage guild.

I noticed the patch for the removal of dimension door and fly, but it says for mage guilds. What about the air magic book and spell binder's hat?

I can see that angel wings patch disables the artifact, but I'm not interested in the additional changes to other artifacts. Is it possible to just disable angel wings, air magic book and the spell binder's hat as one patch or a joined patch with the spells disabled with the mage guild patch? This would be an idea of mine.

Two last things. Extremely rar for me to come across, though both have happened in the past, but basically all air spells in a pandora's box and what about those scholars that may pass on fly or dimension door to you?

As you can see, I'm really against these spells.

Also, there is getting dimension door and fly in a pyramid, though I've never seen those on a random map before, so I'm guessing it doesn't generate them, but if possible, I'd like to see those two spells removed from pyramids too, as I'll sooner or later go back to an already made map to play.

If this can't be done at the moment, is there any other ways for the time?



Things on a random map.

1: I'd like to see are the special dragon dwellings. I see faerie dragon dwellings time to time, though I hate getting them, as they may use chain lightning on my own team.

At times, but rare I've seen sulfur dragon dwellings.

I'd like to see crystal dragon and azure dragon dwellings, as I've never seen either one of those before on a random map.


2: I'd also like a separate patch so that all four of those dragons are added to the refugee camps, as I've never seen a faerie dragon of sulfur dragon there before. I think that could spice things up, though I'd like both patches separate, as I may just want to play with one and not the other at times.


3: I'd like to see a patch where you can select heroes for the computer. Maybe pointless, as at times I've had the computer start as someone who has a speciality with intelligence, then switch to someone who has a speciality of navigation, when the random map was created no water... Lol.


4: I'd like to be able to have the option to select those special heroes for myself and for the computer. Such as the girl who has sharp shooters as her speciality, etc. I think being able to select someone like that for the computer may be an incredible challange.

My ideas for fixing diplomacy and necromancy.

The fix for necromancy is making skeletons 3 hp, 1 dmg, half price, double growth in towns and on all starting heroes. Same with banks and wandering stacks (x2 spawn range, min-max). This is, in short, half strength skeletons with compensation for towns/starting heroes/wandering skeleton stacks.

The skeletons that you get from eating wandering creatures is half strength. Converting creatures to skeletons is half strength. That's the point.

This way, no need to remove necromancy artifacts or making amplifiers cost huge amounts. Towns (except horde growth, but the horde building is half cost) and skeleton dwellings on the map is the same strength as before which is good.

All possible with txt files alone.

Diplomacy (possible with ERM prepossessing, pure SoD) Kinda unrelated to this topic, but still.

All monsters @ 9 aggression level.

In short: Paid for only, harder to get, consistency (no random factor), towns still useful for their growth.

@GrayHero

Some of the things you want is only possible with ERM prepossessing, pure SoD (save game load after ERM has done its work) ERM can remove spells from scrolls, magic shines, pyramids? What's not possible with this method, Pandora's Boxes.

paying a witchhut 5k gold for specific skill
make scolars teach only spells/primary skills

disable some skills: navigation, ballistics(who attacks a guy in a castle??), ballista(...), and etc.

sure, they all deserve there being on specific maps, but more often then not they are totally useless

Ballistics is a great skill if you lack flyers. It also let's you cast the first spell. One spell will be able to kill a catapult as can range units later in the game.

You will have to attack towns at some point to win terrain on your opponent.

Navigation is great for heroes collecting treasure on the sea on islands (on +XL especially), at least. Or a hero who sails from island to island taking towns. I'd avoid it for your main heroes until Hota.

Generally, I don't want to take things completely out of the game because it makes the game less dynamic in most cases. Some things like Orb of inhibition does take more out of the game than it adds, imo. Unless, you could make it something like buy-only 200000 gold with 5 towns, of course.
