***Tavern Wake-Up Call***
For a long time now we've been hearing people talking about how the Tavern is dying, and how they miss the good ol' days - there have been about a billion attempts to recreate that golden era, and as many posts talking about how to 'get back' what's been lost. I've been thinking about this for a long time and i don't believe it should be as hard to repair as it has appeared to be.
The biggest problem the tavern faces is SPAM - don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the tavern is being choked with it, the problem is actually that we can't seem to define SPAM in any clear and concise manner. The definition that we tentatively seem to follow is that if a post is just 1 or two lines, its spam and should go to the wastelands. But some of those 1-2 line posts are insanely funny, sometimes they breathe new life into a dying thread just cuz they inspire people to respond. Generally speaking that's not spam - is it?
But that's the problem, because people feel that they need to write a brilliant comedic essay to post in the tavern. or host up some major new game - there really isn't that much new posting.
The whole "Good Ol Days" was not just because the members were really gifted writers and exceptionally funny people (they were tho  ) What really made those times great was the friendship, everyone knew each other so well, they had a history together and everyone looked forward to seeing what each other had to say. I mean Hc's Tavern is like any other - on its own its okay - but what makes it great is the friends you meet there.
Where the VW does the most damage is that people get to know each other there and have fun, but then those posts are deleted, new people can't find out what's been talked about - old jokes are lost - and its just not good 
So my thinking is that we need to change what goes where - the Tavern needs to be about having a good time with your mates - the VW is about stuff that isn't going to matter to anyone in the long haul.
From now on, the only threads I think that should be in the VW are
Word Games
Silly Polls
Links to pictures / videos / websites etc (these are best in VW since eventually the links always go dead - and then there is no point in saving the thread anyways)
New Feature testing / smiley making and other such silliness
Chit Chat directed specifically at one other person ie "Hey RSF Read This"
Nonsense Random typing (for when you're just feeling goofy)
The rest of it should go to the Tavern. I think most posters know what bad spam is - I mean one word posts like "ha" etc - anything that adds nothing but was written just for the sake of adding a reply (translation - boosting your post count)
Bad spam will be cleaned, and repeat offenders will be warned as per the CoC.
I'm going to copy this same thread over to the VW - let me know what you guys think.
Also - a reminder to everyone: to avoid a penalty you have to completely censor the whole word you can't type in the first letter and then do the stars after - every letter gets the asterisk please and thank you

I think the reason that VW is so alive and Tavern is relatively dead is because people can post anything they want in VW without the fear of getting scolded by a mod. That results in free, limber, rampant fun a lot of the time.
What you're proposing is that instead of mining VW for stuff that's worth preserving (sending to Tavern) you're going to scan Tavern for stuff that's worth deleting (sending to VW). The latter seems like a lot more work than the former. I think it will also result in more more scolding, more bruised feelings, and less participation.
A suggestion I'd like to make is that since Kookie is here a lot of the time, and since she's been pretty much endorsed by everyone as a mod you can put her in charge of deciding when a VW thread goes gold and deserves to punted to the tavern.(and vice versa too)

I'm not exactly sure how to take what you're saying...
I did not intend to moderate the Tavern any differently than I moderate in the VW. As for the amount of work - I really don't get what you mean at all. Work for you? How so? Do you mean work for me?What exactly is different? The truth is that the VW as it is right now, is more work for me. It's supposed to be a place where threads are spammed and get canned after a week of inactivity. It sure is not that. Its supposed to be stuff that doesn't matter with regards to keeping a history of HC - and it sure hasn't been that either.
So now instead of being able to skim over threads to be sure that basic rules aren't broken - I know have to read through all of it - instead of threads dying off after a week - or when the games get to 500 pages - threads now linger forever and the VW swells over.
So essentially what I am saying is that instead of doing the work in VW I'd be doing the exact same thing but in the Tavern instead.

That's the way I interpreted it too. That Pandora is saying that the same - or very similar converstations should be going on in Tavern.
And Foggie - UGH

Here's what I see in the VW. People starting frivolous threads. Some 80% stay frivolous, some 20% achieve critical mass where everybody adds in and the "friendly HC conversation amongst friends" becomes most evident.
If you have all of those frivolous threads start off in Tavern it seems to me a lot more work reading it and deciding whether or not to hurt somebody's feelings by deleting it then by picking the twenty percent from VW to be preserved. (nobody can argue about a VW thread getting sent to Tavern, right?)
It's impossible to say how a thread will turn out. Some VW threads take off and some tavern threads die. Take a look through the back pages of VW, can you really see most of this stuff starting in tavern?

I'm trying to get you permanently installed as Queen of VW so LG can never pretend to the throne.
no seriously, you spend mosta lot of your time in VW (an examplethat started in VW) and are capable of knowing what's fit for non-deletion.
Just about everybody here has endorsed you as mod in one way or another (even starting 3 or 4 months ago in various threads).
embrace your destiny...
or don't, that's okay too.

I think it's worth a try, I won't give up on the Tavern that easy.
Plus the VW wasn't meant to be what it's become - I'm trying to fix both at once here

Read the Feedback.
Slayer & I already have been on this topic long ago.
Until you fix the problem, people will post in the VW more.
Most go where it says todays post.
Tavern-VW, it's all the same right now until you fix it.

lol Acu, I am aware of that - which is why I am making the changes...This to me seems the most viable way to ressurect the tavern - plus I think a lot of people had a strange view of the tavern - like your posts had to meet a certain quality level to exist here. this seems like a rather exclusionist way to run a tavern - so i think the best way is to let everyone in - and if there's problems we'll toss the riff-raff

My Vote:
I think things are fine the way they are. No changes are needed regarding this issue in my opinion.
It is my belief that there is nothing wrong with the Tavern. In fact, I think the Tavern's success is directly related to the current most popular Heroes of Might Magic game. The greater its success equals a more enthusiastic Tavern. Perhaps we'll see more Tavern membership and participation once the HoMM V map editor becomes effective.

WRONG CONSIS.
There is a problem.
People are not going in & they think if thier thread is not quality enough, then they should not post it.
Many are skeptic about where to post thier thread.
Some say it's good enough to be in the tavern.
VW is a pending thread.
Whatever the VW stands for today should be part of the tavern.
VW originality changed.
Usually back in the days people would make thier threads in the tavern.
If the thread was garbage then it would be tossed in the wasteland for pending.
The name Volcanic Wastelands alone should tell you what it means.
You are wrong COnsis because the tavern is a place to have fun, talk & relax. People are not comfortable making threads. They think it's some holy place where they are afraid to post bad replies or making certain threads in.
COme on it's the tavern not Turbinal lol.
