Poll Question:
Xbox vs PS2

I know that Xbox 360 is out but the PS3 isn't, so I decided to make this: Xbox vs PS2 poll.
In my humble opinion, I think that Xbox is better.
Maybe because of many reasons.

Firstly the inclusion of DirectX in the Xbox system makes it far better.
DirectX is a graphics and sound program which is made by Microsoft.
Many or all games on computer cannot run without DirectX, and the homm games are no exception of this.
Xbox also has a hard drive, and although you can I think purchase hard drives for PS2, they are not that good compared to the one which is built into the Xbox.
It has about % gigs if my memory is correct of hard drive space, and that is alot to store music, and your saved games.
Xbox also have better graphics games then PS2 have, and that is partly due to the face that Xbox has DirectX in it.
I also heard that PS2 is something like a Pentium 2 processor, nearly a Pentium 3, whereas Xbox is Pentium 3, but I may be wrong about this.

Xbox also has the ability to be able to store Music onto the hard drive, so you can listen to that during your favourite games, be it GTA Vice City, Project Gotham Racing 1 or 2 etc etc.

PS2 have a much wider variety of games and that is a plus side, but with the exclusion of Hard Drive, DirectX, ability to store music and many other things, it is for me,not as good as a gaming console as the Xbox is.

I have provided some facts for you here, and now I would like you to place your vote.

Which is better?
Xbox or PS2?

XBOX is better, but PS2 will win the vote because it's older, so more people bought it, and those people will be fixated by the mediocrity of the PS2 and have the inability to see any other consoles, and seeing as PS2 sold more, it will have the majority vote, which is why in this poll democracy is WRONG.

There will also be a bunch of ppl who will come on and say that PC is the best, even though we all know that PC is not in the same league because it is not a console and isn't even a specific piece of technology of a specific brand, but rather is a produced idea that is constantly being brainstormed.

But a console can be more popular without being better. XBOX is alot more powerful, and has a better controller (whoever says the PS2 controller is simply used to it and blind) but all of this is irrelevant because it comes down to the range of games.

Originally, you could argue that PS2 had a better choice of games. But now it is no longer the case. XBOX has always had far better shooters and racers, what it is famed for, and now even has the PS2 great title GTA and the RPG legend The Elder Scrolls.

PS2 has some good games, but recently Microsoft has acquired enough good games for XBOX to take the lead.

Also the PS2 online system is no match for the XBOX Live, even if you do have to pay a few bucks for it you stingy... And with a stream of content downloads, and the marketplace, and the gamertag system it's quite awesome.

But now XBOX360 is out so it doesn't really matter XBOX Live carries over the XBOX gamertag and other such things over to the new 360.

Just so you know I have both an XBOX and PS2, so I'm not biased as anyone who has only one console inevitably will be

PS3 probably will be good. I like the systems, and their games, not for the company that makes them. It's called non-fanboyism. you should try it jk

Thanks for your responses guys.
Well I have been searching and I found some article you could call it about xbox vs ps2.

A Look at PS2, Xbox Hardware Specs

XBOX
CPU: Pentium III 733-MHz
Memory: 64MB of RAM
CPU 3D GT: --
Poly Draw Rate: 150 Million Polygons per second
Screen Resolution: Up to 1920x1080
Audio, Sound: AC3 Encoded Game Audio
Memory:
Disc Speed: 2X to 5X DVD
Game Disc: 8GB
Online Gaming: Xbox Live

PLAYSTATION 2
CPU: 128-bit PlayStation 2 CPU
Memory: 32 MB
CPU 3D GT: 66 Million Polygons per second
Poly Draw Rate: 75 Million Polygons per Second
Screen Resolution: 256 x 224 to 1280 x 1024
Audio, Sound:
Memory: 2 MB
Disc Speed: CD-ROM 24X DVD-ROM 4X
Game Disc:
Online Gaming:

THAT INFO TAKING FROM: The Tech Zone

As you can see, Xbox has more compatibilites than the PS2 has.
It has xbox live (online gaming), Game disc, Audio, sound and many other things.
The controllers in my opinion are better wuth the xbox, especially the Xbox controller S, which fits perfectly into my hands, well it is 10x better than the Duke controller, which is ugly and quite chunky and since I have quite small hands, it is not right for me, and mainly directed for adults or people with big hands.

Although the xbox console might be big, that is only because of the hardrive and probably many other things inside it whch make it good.
And like TA said, the xbox now has the major games like GTA and Elder Scrolls, and it also has Halo and Halo 2 and the upcoming Halo 3, which are not avaliable on the PS2 which is very good.

It also has top quality driving games like Project Gotham Racing 1 and 2 which I both have, and some others, but PGR 1 and 2 are probably the most known driving games which can be played on Xbox Live.

Although I do not have xbox live, it is supposedly quite good, although maybe a little too costly.
You can download content for your favourite games, like more cars for PGR2, maps for Farcry Insticts, etc etc.
This makes your xbox gaming experience more enjoyable and longer lasting, whereas the ps2 doesn't have this extra enjoyability found when you play the Xbox.

Xbox will forever be the more better console.
Go the xbox!!!

haha nahh iv always preferred ps2 over xbox.. if i wanted furniture id buy a coffee table instead

Ps2 controller much better imo.. so much better shaped, so much easier to use. The xbox controller is too chunky, and i find it too hard to use..

As for games, games such as gta may come out on both systems, but by the time it comes out on xboxs delayed release, no1 likes the game anymore..

ps2 is much more popular then xbox.. why? coz its sold alot more! I dont think its because it came out first, alot of ppl are refusing to buy an xbox 360 because they are waiting for ps3, the next god of video entertainment..

I have to disagree there.
If you read my post above, you will see that I said there are 2 xbox controller types.
The S controller which is the better one, smaller and better layout of the buttons etc, and the Duke controller, which is much bigger, and chunky and that is what I do not like, and the majority of the xbox users use the S controller.

GTA on xbox has more features, which I read in a magazine.
It has more cars, better graphics and some options that were not in the ps2 version, and much more.

PS2 is not as popular anymore, because as people have seen, many games like Halo and Halo 2 attract alot of people, and xbox games have, in comparison, sold more games then the most popular ones on PS2 have.
It might have sold more because it was released earlier, but that does not mean it is more popular.
Many people might have bought a ps2 and then thought it rubbish and not used it anymore.
Just because it sells more does not mean it is popular, if you get what I am saying.

The majority of xbox users will buy the xbox360, and alot of xbox360's have already been sold, so who are you to say that they are refusing to buy one?

DT you like the PS2 controller better because you're used to it. It's what happens. Once you're used to one thing you don't want to go and switch to another thing so you hate that thing.

And plus Sony no longer has an exclusivity deal with Rockstar so the next GTA will come out on the xbox either at the same time or before the playstation.

Plus the PS3 is alot bigger than the XBOX360.

also I still have the Duke controller for XBOX since I've had 4 since it came out and I don't mind the fact that they're huge. The 360 controllers are awesome though.

ok.. firstly, im pretty used to both the xbox and ps2 controllers. I dont have an xbox anymore, but iv borrowed one for heapz long from ma mums frend.. bt the main times i use one is at ma mates. We both have PES5, the greatest game ever lol.. ma frend is a xbox fanboy, hes even gona buy the xbox 360 even if it is inferior to the ps3. But he is in agreeance that the ps2 controllers are smaller and easier to use. I win on either system (wot can i say ) bt i find it much easier on ps2 because of the better layout of buttons etc..

also this xbox s controller.. u cant say the majority of ppl have it, if u dont know this. Ive never seen this control before. I work at a shop that sells electronics, and we dont hav this controller (to my knowledge).. Also how do i no ppl are choosing to wait for ps3? coz i have asked around, and i dont think the xbox 360 sold out wen first realised at my store.. I dont make unsubstansiated claims lol..

Well i guess it doesnt matter now that xbox will release gta at the same time, coz now ps3 will have the better graphics, and the like i sooo cant wait for ps3 to come out, its going to rock gaming as i know it

uhh and clearly sales indicate popularity of a system, and ps2 still sell more systems then xbox.. thats why they are more expensive.. u cant judge popularity by whether the person likes it or not.. thats not feasible.. lol thats how ps2s are still more popular then xboxs.. More sales = more people think they are better then the xbox therefore is buying it..

I think at your shop they sell the S controller and not the Duke, because they don't sell Duke controllers anymore (if they do they are bloody hard to find )

The thing I don't like about the PS2 controller is the lack of a proper trigger, which makes playing shooters a ****fight, and the R2 and R1 just detracts from it further. Plus the X and all those buttons are very short in height, so when you press them there's not much difference between them and the actual controller, so it lends itself to button bashing alot easier. The joystick lacks proper grip and the start button is difficult to press in a rush.

The XBOX controller is not perfect but improves on these things, and the size is irrelevant. You don't want to be holding this little dingy thing. The XBOX 360 took all these things and improved it in it's controller, and maintains the general layout;

The buttons are thicker and more I guess satisfying to press lol if you get what I mean. It has both the triggers for racing and shooting, and the top buttons like the playstation, and the joysticks are alot more comfortable. The start button is pretty good and the XBOX centre button is too cool, it's like made out of metal and is as a result always a little bit cooler (as in temperature) than the other buttons and links you to the online abilities.

This is the ps3 controller

They failed in the redesign of the controller so reverted back to this one. At least this one looks a bit more solid, and the buttons worth pressing but the start buttons, lack of trigger and joysticks are also dodgy. There's a little PS3 button in the middle which I guess is kinda like the XBOX one.

Another thing that annoyed me about the PS2 is that there were only 2 slots. Sure you could buy this extra thing that can play 4 player but it's a hassle and more cost, and then the games are based around the basic 2 player generally. And also the memory card! that ****s me up the wall lol memory cards.

Also I know that popularity is measured in how many ppl bought it, as in, the definition of popularity but we're not talking about sales, we're talking about which one is better.

Yes there is a movie feature. I could use my joystick because I got a different version of Xbox from HongKong but you have to normaly buy a remote control (maybe 15 bucks) for XBox.

The Xbox can also go through an illegal alteration (I think its illegal) which you can change hard drives to an 80 gig (or whatever) and put the games on the hard drive, not needing the disc for it.

haha where as u find the lack of trigger annoying, i hate the trigger.. lol nah im just love the playstation controller because it perfectly fits ma hands.. i mean u can do different button configurations so much faster on the playstation.. i have alwayz prefered the playstation controllers, i never was a great fan of the super nintendo, or gamecube, found them a hassle to use..

u have to realise that the ps2 has memory cards because i dont think hard drives were an option for the ps2, whereas xbox was the first system to use this cutting edge technology. The new ps3 will be fully equipped with the latest tech, so that it wil be the xbox 360 that wil be technically inferior..

i still think playstations are better..

~revived~

The good thing with Xbox360 is that it is backwards compatible, whereas I don't know if that is the case with the Playstation 3, I simply do not know.

Although the xbox may be large, that is no big worry at all.

I would rather have something large and have better stuff in it, than a small machine with nothing really in it.

Playstation2 is small in size probably because it does not have a hardrive, well I know it doesnt have a harddrive, although I have heard of external harddrives for the ps2 although I may be wrong, I know you can get external harddrives for the Xbox but yeah.

The Xbox may not have been out for as long as the PS2 has been, but that doesn't mean that PS2's are better, it means they are older and therefore lack the slightly more modern technology that the Xbox developed within the creation of it.

Bill Gates the main man with Microsoft, made some excellent choices with the Xbox, including an internal harddrive within the Xbox which gives you the ability to save you're games and store you're favourite music onto there which you can listen to while playing some certain games like for example: Project Gotham Racing 1 and 2 or GTA 3 and GTA Vice City, although GTA 3 and Vice City have excellent radio stations so I listen to them more than I listen to my own music.

The games that were originally only avaliable to the PS2 and then came out onto the xbox was a good choice, because when they came out onto Xbox, the grahpics and all of that was enhanced a little more, and more stuff was added and all that.

And let's not forget about DirectX which is probably the main Componenet that keeps the Xbox being so much better than the other consoles in my most honest opinion

Also with the Xbox the ability to download stuff for you're favourite games that are Xbox Live enablled, and the inclusion of being to play other players on you're favourite games across the world, is a big plus.
With Project Gotham Racing 2 for example, you can get onto Xbox Live, and then download more stuff, like more cars and stuff.
Some funny things like Trolleys and all that can be cars, or so I have  heard that anyway.
There is a special showroom section dedicated to the downloadable cars that you can get from Xbox Live.

With Far Cry: Instincts, you can download Maps and all that, which you can play with you're friends online or at home with multiplayer or whatever you want really.

Many games like this with the inclusion of being to play with you're downloaded content is a big plus, and being able to play online with other players across the world is absolutely awesome.

I have heard for online gaming with the PS2 but I am not sure about that, I may be wrong or whoever told me may be right, I am simply not sure so someone clarify if that is actually correct, the ability to play online with PS2 I mean

Now with DirectX here is something that I got from Wikipedia DirectX

Quote:
DirectX is a collection of APIs for handling tasks related to multimedia, especially game programming, on Microsoft platforms. It is widely used in the development of computer games for Windows, the Xbox and Xbox 360.

Both the DirectX runtime and SDK are available free of charge from Microsoft. The DirectX runtime was originally redistributed by computer game developers along with their games, but later it was included in Windows. Game developers still often include an updated version of DirectX that prompts installation automatically after the game installation to ensure proper program functionality.

Now with DirectX with the Xbox games, you will get much better graphics than you would if say playing the same game but with a Playstation2.

Some games require DirectX, well actually every game I know on the PC requires DirectX, except maybe with the exclusion of DOS operated Games, but I am not sure, seeing as though DOS is not windows, and DirectX runs on Windows systems, but I may be wrong about that, I think I am right that every Windows game needs DirectX, oh except maybe for the very old games, but yeah not very sure.

But definately without DirectX for the xbox, the xbox would have surely failed, and without it now, the games would be crap or maybe not even able to run.

That is a big plus with the Xbox, better graphics and sound and all that.

Now onto the controllers, TA pretty much summed it all up but I have a few things to say.

The buttons with the PS2 controllers often didnt like work, like they worked, but they really needed to be pressed down "hard" in order for them to operate properly.

Although they may be small, they break rather easily, which is a bit stupid aswell.

The Xbox controllers, although some people may disagree with me, have less buttons then the PS2 controller has.
I counted every one, including the D-PAD arrows, and the black and white button, and the left and right triggers, and did the same with the PS2, and PS2 has more buttons on it's controller than the Xbox does.

The Xbox controllers are hard, which means they will not break as easily, and I should know as I used to get angry and smash the controllers on the ground rather hard, but they did not break.
Now if I tried doing that with a PS2 controller, I know it would breka instantly, or maybe on the 2nd throw to the ground, which is pretty weak for a controller in my opinion.

Now about the controller ports or whatever you may like to call them, firstly you buy the ps2 console, but you can only play 2 player.

What is up with that?

If you want to play 4 player, you then need to go out and waste even more money just to buy a thing which allows you to plug in 4 controllers, and this may be cool but some of the old games may not even support the 4 players, I think that is how it works anyway.

With the Xbox, you already have 4 players there, and when on Xbox Live you can vs heaps more players aswell, more than 4 players atleast, I think the maximum in a game is 8 or maybe 12, I forget but it is way more than with playing on the PS2, which is good for the Xbox.

Probably only good thing with PS2 is that it is small and compact, but that means they would not have been able to fit any of the good stuff inside of it, like a hardrive or whatever, so that is bad aswell.

Xbox is large but fits alot of good stuff, including the Internal Hardrive which is awesome.

I seriously think that the Xbox is better, it has better games, better graphics with them, they are easier to play, soo many more things that makes them better than the PS2.

But I guess if it was PS2 vs Xbox vs PC, the PC would win hands down lol, but this is about the battle of 2 consoles, not the PC

Dude, have you ever even played a PS2 before?  I must ask where this info comes from because (and I say this not in defence so to speak of the PS2 because I am not biased) I do have a PS2.  Before that my gaming was limited to my PC, GameBoy Advance, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, and Atari 2600.

When I had finally had enough of hearing about all the great games out there I went to the game store with an open mind because
1) I had only owned Nintendo products in the past and
2) I had read up on the information given for both systems in GamePro Magazine.

I ultimately chose the Playststion 2 (or rather the re-made PS2) mainly due to the games available for it.  I've played Halo before and it honestly didn't impress me.  The only part I liked was the Unreal Tournament-like combat part so I wasn't going to buy an X-Box because of the Halo series.  I was however a big Soul Calibur fan and since SC 3 was only being released on the PS2 that helped my decision.  I thought the idea of a memory card was actually kind of cool as I could take it with me (like let's say over to my cousin's house who also has a PS2) and I could easily copy information back and forth.

Now for the controller.  I have used all three controllers mentioned (including the chunky Duke controller which I did not care for).  I didn't mind the second XBox controller.  It was ok.  I really can't say anything bad about it because it worked just fine and allowed me to kick some butt in SC2 (after some getting used to ).  I like the PS2 controller for the obvious reason that it's what I have.  Being that I own one and use it regularly I have never noticed any problems (such as not working) and I have never had to press any button harder then any other controller button.  The fact that you say they break easily may be due to the fact that you are pressing them too hard.  Anything will break if you apply enough pressure.

Now that the Playstation 3 is out (and XBox 360 has been out for awhile) I'll start my research into what system will be my next purchase.  This time it boils down to whether I want Blu-Ray or HD-DVD capabilities and again what games are released/available.  Playstation 3 will have Broadband access just like the PS2 did (for such games like Final Fantasy XI which was online only) and XBox 360 will still have XBox Live.  Playstation now has wireless controllers and a hard drive which will basically work like a home media center (or so I've heard).  Also if you have a PSP, you will be able to connect it to your Playstation 3 (for what reason I have no idea ).  I have heard that like its predecessor that it is backwards compatible with Playstation and Playststion 2 games.  I haven't read much about XBox 360 yet but I hear that in order to play HD DVDs you need to buy a separate unit that does something or other.  I also heard of a problem concerning it's backwards compatibility but as I said before it is simply hearsay.

Yes I have, otherwise I would not have said what I said now would I?
I have played Gamecube, xbox and PS@, and must say that Gamecube controllers are a little silly and big but that is just my opinion, PS2 controllers are sometimes hard to press the buttons in, and they are easy to break, and xbox controllers are easy to use and are not easy to break.

I have played PS2 at times, when I go to my friends houses, I have played GTA san Andreas with them and other games like that, so yes I have played a Playerstation 2, and my opinion of it is that it is an alright gaming system but not as good as some of the more modern gaming systems like the Xbox for example.

Before that my gaming was limited to my PC, GameBoy Advance, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, and Atari 2600.  When I had finally had enough of hearing about all the great games out there I went to the game store with an open mind because 1) I had only owned Nintendo products in the past and 2) I had read up on the information given for both systems in GamePro Magazine.

Well my gaming was limited to Gameboy, Nintendo64 and PC both DOS games and Windows Games.
I read up on the Xbox and PS2 and at first, I really wanted a PS2, but because of the stupid price, $700 and over, I decided not to get it, and went with the Xbox instead, and let me tell you, that was an extremely good choice.
Although the PS2 has been out longer, and has had more games made, this does not necassarily mean that it is a better console.
Popularity between consoles does not determine if they are better or not, generally I would say that the hardware would and the Specifications and all that would determine the better console, and features.

I know you didnt say anything about Popularity or whatever, but I am just saying.

You shouldn't believe all the reviews and what they say though, because you should playtest the consoles yourself instead of just reading some review or whatever.

It is you're own experience that counts, not what other people say about it, like I mean, the reviewers may be right about some things, but they may be wrong about other things concerning the consoles.

What if you read up a PS2 console review, just for example, and the reviewer said it was really good.
So you decide to buy it but find out it was really crap console, and a waste of money.
Now just because you believed some reviewer, you wasted you're money on buying something that isnt even worth the money you paid for it.

Like what I am saying is don't believe everything that magazines or reviews tell you, it is you're own personal experience that will tell you you're opinion of it, or something like that anyway

I do not think that the Halo games are the best games on the Xbox, I honestly think that Fable is the best game.
Halo is a good game nonetheless but not the best, but that was not what got me into playing the xbox and all.
I was at a friends house one day and I played a game, a driving game (cannot remember the name of it) and I really enjoyed it.
It had nice features, nice graphics and was easy to play, and I enjoyed it.

I think I was playing with using his Duke Controller (bigger controller, too big for my small hands) and it was an alright experience, but then I later played with the S Controller (smaller and better controller in my opinion) and I had more fun obviously, because it was eaiser to play.

But just because you may not like the Halo series does not mean that the xbox may have crap games, and I know you didnt say that but still I am just saying.

There are many other great games that are out on the Xbox such as Fable, Top Spin (although top spin is on ps2, it is very crap on it), Project Gotham Racing 1 and 2, Far Cry Instincts, Doom 3 and many more.

I thought the idea of a memory card was actually kind of cool as I could take it with me (like let's say over to my cousin's house who also has a PS2) and I could easily copy information back and forth.

The Memory Card is pretty cool, but the Xbox controllers also have Memory Cards aswell, so what exactly are you implying here?
You can copy information back and fourth with the xbox memory card aswwell, yes xbox controllers DO have memory cards, and also the inclusion of a hard drive within the xbox console, which is awesome.

I do not know how much the PS2 memory cards can store, and I don't know how much the xbox memory cards can store either, but they are both memory cards, so exactly what is you're point?

The Duke controller for the xbox is chunky, hard to get to the certain buttons and was too big, mainly good for adults though but not teenagers or people with small sized hands.

The S controller which is much smaller and much easier to hold and is lighter and is easier to press buttons, is my kind of controller, and is way better than the Duke Controller in my opinion.

The PS2 controllers break, like I mean if you stepped on a PS2 controller and an xbox controller, I would bet you that the ps2 controller would break first.

Now I don't generally press the buttons down hard, but when I said them breaking, I meant them smashing or whatever, like actually cracking open or buttons falling out or whatnot, I think you may get the general idea

I have thrown down my xbox controller's down alot of times onto the ground, and very hard aswell because I got angry and guess what? They didn't break for a very long time, until my very first controller that I got with the console broke maybe 2 years or so after I got my xbox console which is pretty darn good for a controller that was thrown down alot of times onto the ground, and it stopped working because the cord or whatever was not going into the controller for some reasona dn it couldn't pick up anything, like if I pressed the "A" button it would not detect it, it would not respond to anything, the xbox console didnt think there was even a controller plugged in.

I had another controller aswell, which was quite  wide, but the controller sticks stopped working, because my dad broke them when he got angry while playing golf games with me (tiger woods pga tour 2005 for you're information) and that's how it broke, although I have tried fixing them, by taking them apart, nothing could be done, I couldn't fix them no matter how hard I tried, so I just got new ones, because they were the only ones I had at the time, but then my mum bought me another controller and then my sister bought me another controller aswell, so now I have 2 controllers so I can play multiplayer games with my dad or with my sister, which is always quite fun

I now have 2 other controllers, S controller sized ofcourse and they are working exceptionally fine, and are easier to grip and stuff then the S controllers were, and they have a little bit of a change, just the black and white buttons are now placed in a different place, and the start and back buttons are also different place aswell, I think

The PS2 controllers are weak and I just generally do not like them, and they also have more buttons then the xbox controllers have

This time it boils down to whether I want Blu-Ray or HD-DVD capabilities and again what games are released/available.  Playstation 3 will have Broadband access just like the PS2 did (for such games like Final Fantasy XI which was online only) and XBox 360 will still have XBox Live.

Ok I see that PS2 DID have broadband access, I must be wrong then, so thankyou for clearing that up with me Mightymage

Xbox 360, ofcourse that will have Live, it would be incredibly stupid if it did not have Live, and if it didn't, then I probably wouldn't get one, or it may piss alot of people off, and they may go back to the Xbox.

But with the PS2, could you download things for you're games from the broadband thing, like levels/maps, or new items or whatever?

Quote:
Playstation now has wireless controllers and a hard drive which will basically work like a home media center (or so I've heard).

Yeah that is good news for the PS3 console then, that they are atleast getting a harddrive for the console, that might mean if you can play on broadband access or whatever, then you could probably download things for you're games like you can with Xbox Live with some certain games, like Far Cry Instincts where you can download custom maps, or Project Gotham Racing 2 where you can download Cars.

But remember, Xbox 360 also has Wireless controllers, which will be totally awesome, and so does the Xbox console, that has Wireless controllers which are really quite good

The Xbox 360 is ofcourse backwards compatible, but not all games will be backwards compatible.
I know for sure that Fable will be able to be played on the Xbox 360.

I am not too sure about the PS3 and if it is backwards compatible, but if it is, then that is good for it then

The PSP thing is a little weird, like why would you want to plug it into the PS3, sounds a little stupid if you ask me lol
