As by now I think Alc's Normad town is a bit pass its fresh dates (discussion is winding down)... I figure I will repost my old Normad town in here again.
-------------------
The idea of a Nomadic town was first presented (atleast where I read from) by alcibiades. Its very interesting, and spark few ideas in making my own Plains People town too. So here is a short summary of it.
So I am trying to make something of a ¡§Horse People¡¨ that live on the plain and have strong relationship with the nature and horses, in more of a Native American theme. As characteristic, they have a lot of Riding creatures that can cover a wide distance in no time, and are best at fast hit and run tactics. They are best fight in a open space, and not so great in castle sieges or battlefield with lots obstacles. Their def and hp are also not often the best, which may be more difficult fight if the opponent take a more defensive route.
Creatures:
(* means ability for upgraded)
Lv1. Nomad / Raider
(Stride, Strike and Return*, Large Creature)
Lv2. Falconer / Falcon Hunter
(Shooter, Unlimited Shots, Steel Claw*)
Lv3. Centaur / Centaur Mustang
(Large Creature, No Enemy Retaliation, Jousting*)
Lv4. Buffalo Trampler / White Buffalo Trampler
(Large Creature, Stampede, Immune to Slow, Trampling Charge*, Bravery*)
Lv5. Shaman / Curandero
(Caster, Shape Shift, Shooter*, Aura of Magic Resistance*)
Lv6. Braves / War Chief
(Large Creature, Stride, Shooter, Strike and Return, No Enemy Retaliation, Bravery, Double Attack*)
Lv7. Thunder Bird / Lighting Hawk
(Large Creature, Flyer, Immunity to Lighting, Lighting Shield, Chain Lighting*)
Lv1. Nomad / Raider
(Stride) For every side steps move (squares that goes up and down on the battle field, instead of toward the enemy), gain 10% dodge from range attack.
The only first level large creatures. Guys on Horse. Good speed and movement, fair attack, but poor armor. But with Stride ability will help them close in the distance better with more chance of avoiding arrows (best with a more diagonal movement for advance.)
Lv2. Falconer / Falcon Hunter
(Steel Claw) Decrease the Imitative of creatures they attack by few intis, also make them Bleed.
Idea taken from Golemcrafter¡¦s Fowler. They use their Falcons to do range attacks. The basic shooter of the army. Can make them more different by making it where they have a delay attack. So when they first ¡§shoot¡¨ their target, they send their Falcon flying, and its only after few init pass will that ¡§hit¡¨ landed (a bit like Battle Dive). This means if didn¡¦t timed right, the target could move away to avoid the hit. Of course, to balance it, their attack will do more damage than any lv2 shooter.
Lv3. Centaur / Centaur Mustang
The real horse people. Fair stats, use for charge in strikes to take advantage of their ability.
Lv4. Buffalo Trampler / White Buffalo Trampler
(Stampede) Active Ability. Move down a straight line, damaging all that is in the way.
(Trampling Charge) Like Cavalier¡¦s Jousting. Gain 10% bonus to damage for each tile move before it attack.
The Tanker of the army, which have good def and hp, but on the slower side. Stampede will allow them to better rush and doing damaging in the way.
Lv5. Shaman / Curandero
(Shape Shift) Active Ability. Allow to Change Shape to a Bear, Eagle, or Wolf.
The multipurpose units. Depend on the battle, could change to a Bear Form (slow, but good tanking), Eagle (flying), or Wolf (fast and good attack). They can also cast some support magic, but won¡¦t be till upgrade will they able to have range attacks.
Lv6. Braves / War Chief
Have pretty good stats, but also list of nice abilities. While they have range shooting ability (throwing tomahawk or spear), the only have 1 or 2 shots. This is more use for them to ride up to the front and attack their target. They can do great first strikes, with out getting much harm to themselves. They also have Stride to help them better close in the distance.
Lv7. Thunder Bird / Lighting Hawk
Similar to how Phoenix is a bird of fire, they are bird of lighting. Very fast (one of fastest creature in the game) and cover wide movement range, they can get in the face of their enemy in no time. While their attack is not as powerful (say 25), but their ability and lighting speed make up for it.
The few other that could, but just didn¡¦t make into the list¡K
-Trailblazer
-Pegasus
-White Dragon
Racial Ablity: Totem
In battle, the Hero can drop a Totem Pole. Totem poles are crafted in the town, and must be equipped as an artifacts. Totem Pole can be drop anywhere on the battle field. They can also be destroy.
Totem Poles (depend on what kind) offers various support effects to your creatures on the filed. They have an effect range of 5 squares, where any creatures on your side will feel its effect when they are whining that range.
Totem Pole of Speed: Increase the speed of creatures in its effect by 1-2
Totem Pole of Strength: Increase the attack of creatures in its effect by 1-3
The higher the level, the more Totem Pole and greater its effect and more verities there is to choose from.

I like the totem Idea. I also like Alc's original linup, at least for the sake of the Dragons.

Hi Actionjack, I just read threw your comments, and have a number of thoughts I'd like to share with you.
- Centaurs: First off, something very general. The idea to make the plains people into a Centaur race was not originally mine, but I think it sits very well with the race and their attributes as well as into the overall H5 Universe. I think this could be applied with ease to your town, and would make it much more conform. I also think it would be interesting to have the Centaur units being "Long" (2x1) instead of Large (2x2).
- I'd make Falconeer level 1 - I think it sits better there, because it's a very frail creature, and I imagine it incapable of doing serious damage (its largest thread being its great numbers). I'd promote the basic Horseman (Centaur) to level 2.
- Centaur Mustang ... Hmmm, we haven't got any stats, but Charge + No Retaliation is a *very* powerfull combo. Also, be aware that with a level 1 ranged unit, and level 2 strike-and-return unit (or vice-versa) and a level 3 no retaliation unit, we have a very nasty lower-level line-up. It might work, but some heavy nerfing on stats would probably be required.
- Totem: I love the basic idea of this skill. I would very much like to borrow it from you, to incorporate in a scheme of alternate skills for a Centaur faction. Of course, I won't take it if you won't let me - but I think it has potential.
That was all ... for now.
