IMPORTANT! How to beat the sync error.

I started this as a new thread to make sure everyone saw it since I have a work-around of sorts for the sync error. It doesn't get rid of the error but does help you see the error when it happens and keep you from wasting a lot of time or not being able to finish at all.

It is very easy to spot the error the turn in which it happens. At the beginning of each day the first player needs to click on the "GAME OPTIONS" button (It is the one that looks like 2 gears.) and make sure that the "SAVE GAME" option is NOT GRAY and is an available option shown in BLUE. If it is blue that means the game is fine and you don't need to do anything; continue playing. However, if "SAVE GAME" is gray you need to stop and reload the autosave the game made at the beginning of the previous turn. If this is done each turn you can catch the bug the turn it happens and only have to replay one turn to fix the game and be able to continue.

A few important notes:
1)For those who don't know, only the first player to play each day or turn can save games, so all other players will ALWAYS have their "SAVE GAME" option gray. Only the first player will be able to do this check. The only way for other players to see it is to watch the thieve's guild and make sure your opponent's stats change and match what they show when they view their hero.
2)The autosave is not a substitute for the check I mention above. The autosave will work every single time no matter if you have the sync error or don't have it. Only checking to see if you can manually save is a valid check.
3)Just to be clear you don't need to actually save or even click on "SAVE GAME". Just make sure the option is available and listed in blue (The option will turn WHITE when the cursor is placed over it.).
4)Be sure to reload the previous turn's autosave not the first one listed. The first one listed was made at the start of the current turn and will have the error.

I've known about this a few days but waited to post it to test it out. It has worked every time for me and saved several games now. I suggest everyone make it a habit to do this and although annoying should allow everyone to finish their games.

Another way is controll opponent's main Hero stats.

Mean look in thievs guild then ask opponent.

Now question:

Is possible divergence between stats when save is available for 1-st player?

Good work on catching the bug.
I just wonder if using quicksave (F5) after each red player's turn would be a better sollution. Using quicksave like that is much quicker than accessing the game options menu, and it protects against sudden disconnects etc.
So the question is: can quicksave be made when a "normal" save cannot?

Thanks guys. I just refused to give up on figuring this thing out. lol

You can compare your opponent's stats in the thieve's guild with what they see on their hero as I mentioned before and I do recommend keeping an eye on this if you aren't the first player. However, doing this as the first player each turn instead of checking the "SAVE GAME" option is a bad idea since your opponent's stats don't change every single turn, particularly at higher levels, and you may not catch the bug until it is too late or you lose more game time.

As for using the Quick Save, to be honest I'm not sure what effect this has and when someone gets the error try seeing if you can and post it here. Personally it takes me about 2 seconds to click the button and then click "RETURN TO GAME" and I know that for sure works as a check. I check it at the beginning of the turn since I think (I could be wrong about this part.) the turn must pass to the other player before the sync error will be "seen".

I do occasionally do a save at the end of my turn just so there is a good save to go back to that isn't overwritten just in case it might be needed. However, I do want to caution everyone that the error can happen at any time. In a recent game with Kolia, I was the first player and started my turn with a knowledge of 3. Mid turn I added a +2 artifact making my knowledge 5 and then visited a Dolmen of Knowledge to make it 6. On Kolia's turn we compared what I was with his thieve's guild and he saw my knowledge as 5 meaning that the sync error actually happened midway through my turn.

I only wander if "CHECK SAVE" is absolute way to check dissynchro.

If "stats divergense" (for 1-st player) appear earlier, than Save button is lost , "look save " is not ultimate method.

I'm not sure if there is something you misunderstand Ghast or I wasn't very clear in explaining something. Trust me the check save has worked 100% every time for me and as I said before checking the stats can work but is not as reliable. If the save check is done at the beginning of each turn, the most that will be lost is one turn that must be replayed.

Last night Rethwen and I started a game on Hourglass... when we got to day 6 I checked for the save button just as I had ever other day and POOF it was GONE!  I notified Reth and we reloaded previous save. We replayed day 5 and save button was available like normal when day 6 came...the save button was gone and we also checked stats and they were indeed outta sync.... so in this case reloading a previous save didnt solve the problem.... It did however still save us from hours of wasted play tho.

The most likely cause is that either the game was out of sync before the save you started to replay from or it went out of sync again that same turn. I've had that happen and trying again is sometimes necessary.

I have a little theory that although it seems it can happen at any time, the error seems to happen most often at points in which large portions of the map are uncovered. This makes sense to me since it would require updating more information between games.

I just can say that this method is tottaly true - I have tested it my self. On my precious free time of course - playing the games only untill the most intersting moment

Thats a ugly bug which is tottaly clear now. They only have to fix it.

well, bobbyohms idea doesn't work at all, i played with kolia, the stats were OK, save in the previous turn was OK too, but on another turn we had dys-synchro bug, and loading any autosave didn't help, the bug appeared at the same moment, every 3 times we tried to load    Dys-synchro bug is getting more tricky

Okay, here is what I know for sure. I have saved several games that would have caused the game to be otherwise unfinishable if I hadn't followed the steps I mention in the beginning of this post. I'm also told by others that this has worked well for them also. So far, though I haven't been playing much of late for other reasons I may post elsewhere, doing this save check at the beginning of each turn has worked for me every time and loading a previous save has fixed the desync issue.

I don't know why others have had problems getting it to work for them unless by chance they weren't being careful enough to check at the very beginning of every turn and have gone beyond a point where they can go back to an uncorrupted save. If they were doing everything correctly, the only explaination I can guess at is either a certain event was corrupt from the start and only shows itsself when it is interacted with later (Attacking a ceratin building or stack for example.) or doing something in the game sets up the corruption in some other game element later.

It's hard for me to answer this because as I said it's worked fine for me so far and I wasn't able to see what was done in the situations that were posted here. I do remember one game not long back that Kolia and I had the same problem that replaying the last save had the error at the same spot each time it was reloaded but then going back to an even earlier save did in fact correct it.

In any case, I feel confident in saying doing as I suggest is not wasted effort. It should work most of the time and if you combine it with making occasional full manual saves (In case all three autosaves aren't usable you do then have a good save to go back to rather than lose the whole game.) I don't see why it wouldn't work all the time from what I've seen. However, as Jinxer and I have both mentioned at the very least it keeps you from playing and not finding out you have a bad game until 8 hours later when you finally meet in battle. That's certainly worth the effort in my book.

One other note to add that I think someone else may have pointed out but is worth repeating is I have noticed on several occasions autosaves that have no game picture when you select them during reload. As far as I know that always indicates a bad save and will be out of sync.

It sounds to me like you were loading an autosave that was bad after the sync error had already happened because seeing problems in the same spot each time is a definate result of that. You needed to reload an earlier save.

Also don't think I took it personal because that isn't it at all but just because this didn't work for you on this occasion doesn't mean it doesn't work at all. You may not have done something you should have or it could be that on this particular occasion it simply didn't happen to work for some reason but I know for a fact it has worked many times for me and other players. I'd hate for folks to read that statement and stop checking to see if they can save for just that reason.

From my last nights experience.

We have been checking the "save" buttons colour for the whole game and at one momment it turned grey. So we loaded the earliest good save (the one that still has the active "save" button).

Unfortunately after repeating the same moves the game went bad again. So for the sake of science we tried just hitint "enter" button instead of moving with our heros. And then the game went ok. But after moving normaly the game got bad again. So it means that the bug is activated by some our actions. After some experiments we have found out that the bug is in my movement. So maybe this evening we will countinue our explorations and it will be sure that exactly triggers the bug. I hope it's not a abandoned mine that I flag this turn (couse it's a gold mine). I will let you know later.

Thank you HOMM5 for making me into some white rat instead of the happy Sunday evening game player! .I.
