Ah, man ...
I was gonna get it today too. Found a deal at Blockbuster, bring in 4 games and get FF12 for free. Unfortunately, i don't keep the cases for my video games, to hide the amount of games i've got from my parents . So, that didn't work. If i manage to get my paycheck in time, i'll get the Special Edition that comes with bonus DVD.
Oh, well. I still got the Demo Disc from Dragon Quest 8. I know it's off topic but, is there any possibility to get PS2 remake of Dragon Quest 5? I probably could order it from eBay, but i heard that Japanese versions don't work on English PS2, is that true?

I've been playing all the Final Fantasies since the beginning And There's none that I've played just once.
I've had to buy Final Fantasy 7 four times now, and Final Fantasy 9 twice, just because I've worn them out (and my son can be a little less than loving with the disks )
8 was the only one I tried on the PC though, and I absolutely hated it. It just doesn't feel right to me to play on the computer (maybe because I like to save the world from the comfort of my own den) Then again, I really didn't get all that excited over 8 on the console either...
This new one is soooooooooooooooooooo beautiful Only a few hours in, but already I feel like it's worth the wait. Except they changed the cactaurs... whyever would they do that?
Oh, and to expalin why I said I like to save the world from my own den... watch this! Wheee!

This game is SWEET! The graphics are beautiful. And once again they've managed to "kill" a few main characters in the beginning of the game.
Pandora, I don't think they call those things Cactaurs. That may be why they look different.

Pan, did you pick up the free art book at Bestbuy/Futureshop? can't complain about the price 49.99 with the pretty (but useless) artbook.
The game is Beautiful and expansive, its not like FF-X where you have about 5 feet to your left and right and only 1 place to go, most areas i've explored so far had many different ways into and out of.
I picked up the game today too, I had been playin the leaked copy for a week or so, but its much more satisfying owning the disk.
what I loved the most was the classic Final Fantasy (NES) music in ht intro and a few parts later in the game.
(Very minor spoiler(s) below)
I would buy a PS2 for this game, only downsides I find are without HDLoader the load times between zones and before cinematics get annoying, but with it the cutscenes are choppy. also I can't seem to find a way to bypass your summon cinematics or limit breaks. there long and never change.
Liscence board gets tricky, I'm not sure how to proceed with it and it seems pretty small. I had all my characters branch off in different directions, then I went and collected the best stuff (HP boost, item bonuses, attack bonuses, magic bonuses) with each character (I'm about 10-12 hrs I think) and all my characters use swords :S they also all have cure1 seems I'm going to have 6 characters that are identical by the end of the game.
Also I can't figure out how the weapons work, they seem to be affected not only by attack power, but by your other strenths but I dont know what goes with what, my main character Vaan hits for 600 dmg (lvl22 others 18) but everyone else hits for 200, since all my guys use swords I cant hit air monsters either which sucks.
Last paragraph I promise, so far I don't see what this game offeres in the name of second playthrough, I can't think of anything I've missed, but then again I could have just not gotten far enough for the game to really open up. Hell I don't even have accessories for everyone as they seem pretty crappy.

This game has made being sick slightly better (since no one brought me any soup ).
Right now I'm in some dessert with some people supposed to be looking for some dead guy's grave for some reason that my nyquil induced brain can't quite remember. All I know is this licence thing is still taking some getting used to. I have to buy the stuff and have enough licence points to go searching for the thing I want on that stupid board. The gidgets or whatever (the things that make your party do stuff without you having to tell them) does make things a lot easier. I've lasted through a lot of battles having one of my party members casting cure every time my HP gets a little low. One word for this game: nice

I didn't get the art books or anything, just the game. I play the first time without cheating, then go back and play again to find all the stuff I missed
I absolutely love it
As for playing itself.. hm, maybe somewhat - but not really, certainly not to the extent of X and X2. I mean, in the early going (I haven't gotten far enough to say more) it's quite specific as to where you go area wise - but you can explore and fight around if you wish, you can also go to places that story wise you needn't be at yet. Its like its one continent with many countries, you can travel wherever you like within the country - but can't leave the country until the game lets you go. But again, I'm so early in the game that could change
The fairest answer I guess is yes and no - but it doesn't at all hurt the game.

From what I remember, they're roughly:
Guns: Physical Attack only (ignores defense)
Bow: Speed and Physical Attack vs. Physical Defense
Daggers: Speed and Physical Attack vs. Physical Defense
Sword: Strength and Physical Attack vs. Physical Defense
Great Swords: Strength and Physical Attack vs. Physical Defense
Spears: Strength and Physical Attack vs. Physical Defense
Long Staff: Magic Attack vs. Magic Defense
Axe: Strength and Physical Attack vs. Physical Defense
Katanas: Strength, Physical Attack and Magic Attack vs. Physical Defense (maybe Magical Defense too)

For basic battles, all you have to do is run up to the enemies to initiate battle and the AI will handle the rest. You can do this for most bosses as well, but it might be more risky if they inflict multiple status effects on your characters (e.g. silence or confuse your 2 characters set to Esuna).
So far I'm a bit disappointed in black magic since MP is very limited and the spells don't even seem to do that much damage.

Why dont you learn how to manage your team & learn about what offensive magic works well for creatures before you make hasty judgement.
I disagree with you 100%

Do you mean to use Libra to see against what a monster is weak and then manually cast a spell of the appropriate element? Battles end pretty quickly (3-4 hits kill a normal monster for me) and my party leader is usually the tank, so I don't want to have to keep doing things manually. I don't have the Gambit that allows casting against a weakness yet, so if you leave the AI to cast whatever, the spells are generally pretty weak. Oh, and yes, I do know that Quickenings will double my MP. =)
Not sure what you meant when you suggested that I learn team management. Was that directed at how I said battles are automated or about the multiple-status and Esuna thing?

Well . . .
I went to the local @~Target~@ store and did a price check. At the moment, the Playstation-2 is running at about $130 bucks and the game FF-12 is running at about $40-$50 bucks. However, I also noticed that the Playstation-3 is due to hit the shelves some time in November. I suspect that the price of the PS-2 will drop even further once its third edition is released. I only have a regular oldschool Playstation and I wish to play Final Fantasy 12, but I don't want to pay much money for the upgrade system. Thus I shall wait until the 3rd playstation hits the shelves for a much lower priced PS-2. I plan to get my Final Fantasy 12 sometime in November or early December.
It's been a long time wait for me. I haven't bought a new Final Fantasy since 8 was released back in 1998. I've been very patient . . . watching and listening to my friends' comments about the new FF's, but I simply haven't been compelled to purchase just yet. After I recently saw a t.v. commercial for the latest Final Fantasy I knew this was the one I'd been waiting for. I've seen commercials for the others as well but something inside me said they weren't quite right.
