Simultaneous turns - HoF impressions
Just finished my first mp-game with fortress and HoF with Betruger.
It was so great.
The simultaneous turn feature worked 100% as it should, things went twice as fast as normal the first 5 weeks or something until we got close and it smoothly switched to turn based.
The Fortress is (or will be when we get to know it) a strong faction I think, and in a couple of week I guess some moaners will go on about it being "overpowered" and "nival are stupid" and all that lame stuff. Make no mistake - it wont be me!
Caraven was also implemented in a very fine way.
It was great.
Didnt even find any bugs to speak of. I just wanted to say all this before people start complaining about all the craziest things of no importance.
NB - Why do we have a "Clear Fields" button i mm from "Submit new thread"?? Well, there, done, for the second time...

We had a 12+ hour session last night, and can only concur!
Simultaneous turns work just great, no bugs, no glitches - and they really speed up the game! If I would try to look for something to complain at it would be:
- Saves happens at end of turn instead of immediately (big deal)
- Once you have pressed end of turn, you cannot do anything until all opponents have finished. Kinda boring, but acceptable.
- The game runs notably slower. Entering towns, scrolling, whatever takes extra long time (several seconds of delay in everything). This could have been because us playing a 320x320 :-)

I absolutely agree!
Simultaneous turns rock so much!
Fortress town seems interesting, it's units seem weaker than their counterparts in other towns (maybe except for the fire dragons) but the runes make up for it. There's just a lot of tactics that can be done using runes.
For exapmle charge rune + a bunch of bear riders is the ultimate early game answer to shooters. You no longer need to fear master hunters
This town seems to have a nice counter to almost everything.
Druids on your way? 4 Thanes will do the job nicely.
And I only played it one time, there has to be a million different tactics

Man, that sounds good then. Simultaneous turns will make the game a lot more exciting with less downtime. What I still don't know is that do you need HoF to get the simultaneous turn option? Seems like a lot of cool features will require this '2.0', and as far as I know with most of the heroes community, they will not spend more $$ on an expansion.

Yes you need HoF for simultaneous turns, but i think people will have to buy it anyway it cost not that much. But once they do realise how good it is,they will not regret about spending money on it,it is most good for multiplayer and tourneys but also if someone playing with a friend.

And what fortress town were you playing ? i was playing kolia on an avarage not so rich but not that poor map ofcourse it was our first game with that town but we were both crying as hell to how hard that town is
Generally speaking i know there's much room for improving with that town and yes very stratigic town but no way could it be overpowered , necro haven and dungeon are much stronger yet maybe with time i will feel they are closer to fortress we'll see in next games.

I dont think any of the factions are overpowered - or the opposite for that matter - my point was that I think Fortress has great potential, and then somebody will complain like they always do. It will be really interesting to see fortress vs other factions, cant wait to try it!
Btw - I struggled a lot playing them yesterday aswell, and Betruger completely destroyed me.

first impression
I have only just started with HoF but it is very exciting to have another faction though they seem a little underpowered with lower lvl troops. I have yet to fully understand the runes but will get a handle on it soon enough.
Both versions 1.4 and 2.0 remain fully functual so playing against opponents in the original is still an option.
Having a RMG is what I like most as I was unable to get Tapani's to work for me I might add though I hope Tapani continues to refine his RMG because it has features and controls better than the official...
I would recommend the expansion as a must have

Underpowered?I found they die more quick,at some situation i think they are weak, the shieldholder is a strong a bit yes,but he has almost nothing special,he is like tough dwarves in homm 3 whos job is a ''canon meat'' Spearthrower actualy is weak, die easy and ranged damage not so good, also the other melee guy with low hp is not so good.I am testing all things on ''Batlle for honor'' map, it is one of the best in my opinion at the moment
Oh and the thing i like in Homm 5, you dont get now more than 3 heroes from town at the first week,i find it strategical,it is eliminate old chaining and replaced it with more good and balanced chaining, old strategyes also work, but they also changed in a good way,now you can lose some few units in quick combat and replay by yourself only if you lose some important troops for you in your strategical plan and you need wisely to pick up on enemies, not just in hope with good results in quick combat, i am sure The_Teacher and Valcyrica did realise that and having fun now, with a strategical way of playing

my 2 cents
i havn't tried fortress yet and havn't seen caravans in action, but simultaneous turns - that's great, permanent fun during all the first 3+ weeks!!!
Moreover i've noticed:
1) Disappearing of hints with pressed Alt.
2) "Summon creatures" spell doesn't spend movepoints anymore.

how to use "runes"
I got a "newbie" question here.... How do I use "rune" magic....
I got alot of them in my spellbook but they are all greyed out....
How do I enable then (yes my hero is an runemaster or what they called them).... is there something I must do in town to enable them???

princess...u know u can always fortify inside your town, climbing heroes on top of the tower (the combat ones), waiting for the opponent to get you in "your" very strategical way, but i have bad news for you : that's happening only in h4 (and maybe heart of the winter will ring u a bell ) the draw game was same as a victory for you. anyway, keep up with the good work and i hope i can see soon your gaming style,i hope it will be close to your preaching style in order to become some challenge
have a nice day

Hehe teacher i almost never fortified in town in Homm 4,and Homm 4 was so unbalanced that allowed many abuses like this,Homm 5 now well done and i feel myself in it like at home
I am gladly accepting your challenge

Correct me if I'm wrong here (cause I have'nt played HoF Sim.turn yet...
But is'nt like this.... Both players play the same day when a player got no more movement points left the acual day he must wait until the other player are finish with the same "playing" day???
anyway I guess it's like this......

Yes and when you first see on sight your opponent turns switch to classic turn based. So basicly at the beggining players will have to no wait for each other or wait a little
