Nintendo Wii

I stood in line starting around midnight last Saturday Night/Sunday Morning until the Walmart opened. I managed to buy a copy of Zelda Twilight Princess as well as an extra controller along with my Wii.

Anyway if any of you decide to try out the Wii and start playing Wii Sports, I strongly recommend that you stand away from someone playing tennis. This means if you are sitting in a chair and someone is standing behind you, then you might want to make sure they are fairly far away.

I got smacked in the head tonight playing Wii Tennis. It was pretty funny and luckily it didn't hurt me at all. But it was funny as hell. I'm sure we'll see some youtube videos of people getting smacked by Wii controllers.

Edit: More stuff posted.

The games that utilize the remote in a very simple manner are the best ones. Right now, I don't think they know how to design it to do things really complicated. The way you move the controller in boxing is very complex and it doesn't work all that well imo. However simple motions work extremely well. Tennis, Baseball, and Bowling for Wii Sports are all very good and lots of fun. The Golf isn't bad either, but the way it measures how hard you swing is really finicky when you try to put. Driving the ball is pretty decent though, because you can take a big swing and I think it just reads it better that way.

So far I've played the new Zelda game. It's a lot of fun. The plot is great, the puzzles are really good and it's take a pretty long time to get as far as I've gotten so far. Zelda is really good so far. I can't say how good yet, cause the story hasn't developed all that much just yet.

I've heard Tony Hawk is really cool. You just hold it sideways with both hands. Then you turn it about its verticle axis to steer, and you tilt it like turning a jar of peanut butter to slow down or speed up. To balance when you go to do grinding, you just tilt it in the only other direction I haven't said yet, so it's tilted on a diagonal.

The controls are really simple and its awesome, so I've heard. I really wanna try that, It sounds awesome. The other game I wanna try eventually is a really good first person shooter. I'd also like to see them improve the boxing game a bit more. Currently you dodge by holding the controllers in towards your body and bending from side to side. So basically when both controllers are tilted to the right, your guy bends to the right. I'd like to just see you use the joystick on the nunchuck and then hold down a button to dodge. Or if they could come out with a third piece where there's a thing that goes around your neck. Then you could dodge by moving your body.

Anyway if they made a Fight Night type game for N64 where it was really well designed with the remote, I would get it like instantly. I know that there is so much potential in that system where it could be done. If the Wii is a big hit, I wouldn't be surprised if you saw another company come out with a console that goes all out on the idea of virtual reality game play.

Sorry for posting this here, but this should go into Other Games...

Ok I’m so excited that you got this I almost bought one. I’m a PS2 fan and with Wii coming out I wondered if they could compare to the graphics of the PS3 or even the 2 for that matter. So is the remote like controller the only one that you use or are there other choices as well. I like Hot Shots golf and Love the UFC game for game cube. Does this compare at all to any of the other game consoles? Can you give met he pros and cons of it….Please…

one thing before you can go into any other aspect of the console:

who the HELL thought to name it the WII?

"mummy i want a wee"

but the most important thing about any console is the games. and I haven't been a fan of Nintendo games since I was a child lol, except for ones which are truly good like the classic SNES and N64 games.

Okay so Gamecube wasn't that great. Problems... The Only For games were a bit of a flop. And then there was no third party support.

However this new round of Wii games is really gonna be big. The New Zelda is the best ever.

The new Mario is supposed to be very good.

Madden 07 has been called, the greatest Madden ever made. It was made ground up specifically for the Wii. Everything uses the remote, from blocking, kicking, snapping, passing, juking, etc.

I can't wait to play it.

RSF, I was thinking about it long and hard last night and I'm now considering this brilliant new Nintendo Product.  Mostly I would get it because the batteries in my Super Nintendo games have long since died and no longer save any games.  I long to play the classics again and since the Wii can download all the great games of days past it would be perfect.
Not to mention I'm rather interested in the new Mario game and how it will work with the Wii controller.

I played the Wii at my friend's house the other day.  It was rather fun.    We played the Wii Sports games.  I got 6 strikes in a row for bowling, and I knocked out my opponent in boxing in 1 round every round.    I sucked at tennis though.  I couldn't figure out the timing and direction of the hits.  Meh.

The sad thing is, my arms became sore after a few rounds of boxing.    Yay, a workout while playing a game that's not DDR.  I should go get one.  Maybe it'll help me get back in shape.

Of course its a bit terrifying to watch them pitching the wii-mote at our 57" tv.. but so far the strap has held up and all is well

My wii fitness age was like 78 LOL I suck!! But wow is that thing fun!

I definately recommend it - it takes the antisocial element out of gaming, we all play everything together and its such a blast!

So far we have Excite Truck, Zelda and the Wii sports, I think next will be the new Wario game, or maybe Monkeyball

People don't like Red Steel only because the turning is slow and clunky.

First Person shooters have been well known for being fast-paced and for this you need quick turning, hence why keyboard and mouse has long been preferred. However Red Steel is extremely highly rated in nearly every other aspect. The game is simply amazing if you get past the crappy turning.

Zelda = A
Monkeyball = A+ (Best controls out of any game)
Madden = B+
Excite Truck = B (Haven't played it too much yet)

That's all the games I've played so far. I simply can't wait for the mario game.

The Wii, well the name doesnt really excite me that much, but I have heard that it is good.

But still, the problem with both the wii and the PS3 is that it doesnt not grasp the technology that microsoft has, and microsoft being one of the richest companies in the world, owned by one of the richest men in the world, you can expect to see alot more in the Xbox 360.

But I always liked playing the Nintendo64, games such as Super Mario 64, and Legend of Zelda: Ocarinas Mask and it's sequel Majoras Mask are games that will stand in the Hall of Fame frever in my opinion.

With Those Zelda games being put to the gamecube, it kind of ruined the game, just slightly, and me being a Nintendo Fan thought it would have been much cooler, but not all games get better as they are made in the present.

Waht I mean by that is that some of the older games are better then the newer ones of them being released.

Some game developer's completely screwed up some games, trying to improve them for the better but it actually made it worse, and that is a shame in a way.

The Wii might be good, but it cannot compete with some of the higher game consoles, just like the gamecube this might not stand up to the Xbox 360 or even the PS3 (Xbox rules!!! ).

I might have to try it out though, as it seems to be really good and alot of people are talking about it, so I might check it out for myself.

well actually, both the Wii and the PS3 coming out later than the 360, and with that motion sensitive controller system, you'd have to say that they are more advanced.
I'm not sure if the Wii is more powerful than the 360, but I'm sure a bunch of people would be happy to tell you the facts.

And you're right will, when they made the change from 64 to Gamecube alot of my favourite games went down the drain, Zelda being the main one, along with Mario. I don't know much about the Zelda in Wii, but it looks similar to the Gamecube one in the respect that it's changed from the amazing Zelda 64, and doesn't look as good.

Then the rest of the games look decidedly childish, even Zelda does to an extent. Red Steel, when I first saw it, was the ray of hope, but now it looks like it isn't at all. I mean, this is coming from me playing Gears of War, one of the most gruesome, spooky, and action filled FPS games I've ever played. I don't need to be standing up and pointing my controller around for that. There is of course, Call of Duty 3, but I heard it's hard to get used to, and I already have it on the 360 and it's awesome. It looks fine for kids and all that jumping about sort of stuff, but until some good games come out, I'm going to stick to Xbox. Oh and maybe a PS3.

What's the online support like? I just read a review for World Series Poker on Wii and it said it got marked down a bunch because of lack of online play.

Well a Motion Sensitive controller sounds nice, but better gameplay and better graphics is what will, in the end, attract the most people.
Who would want a console system where every game has bad graphics?
I for would not buy that, although Gameplay is more important then graphics, but if the graphics are that bad that you cannot stand to look or play the game then there really is no point in playing it.

I know you didn't say anything about graphics or gameplay, but I am simply saying that I would rather the gameplay and graphics over a simple little gadget that might not even be needed at all.

Here are the Wii specifications:

Processors:

* CPU: PowerPC based "Broadway" processor, made with a 90 nm SOI CMOS process, clocked at 729 MHz[34]
* GPU: ATI "Hollywood" GPU made with a 90 nm CMOS process,[35] clocked at 243 MHz[34]

Memory:

* 88 MB main memory (24 MB "internal" 1T-SRAM integrated into graphics package, 64 MB "external" GDDR3 SDRAM)[36]
* 3 MB GPU texture memory

Ports and peripheral capabilities:

* Up to four Wii Remote controllers (connected wirelessly via Bluetooth) - five player capability using four Wii Remotes and one GameCube controller
* One SD memory card slot
* Two USB 2.0 ports
* One Sensor Bar port
* One accessory port on the bottom of the Wii Remote
* Four Nintendo GameCube controller ports
* Two Nintendo GameCube memory card ports
* Mitsumi DWM-W004 WiFi 802.11b/g wireless module
* Compatible with optional USB 2.0 to Ethernet LAN adaptor

Built-in content ratings systems:

* BBFC, CERO, ESRB, OFLC, OFLC (NZ), PEGI, USK

Storage:

* 512 MB built-in flash memory
* Expansion available via SD card memory, 2 GB maximum supported capacity
* GameCube Memory Cards (for saving GCN games only)
* Slot-loading disc drive compatible with 8 cm GameCube optical disc and 12 cm Wii Optical Disc
* Mask ROM by Macronix[37]

Video:

* Up to 480p (PAL/NTSC) or 576i (PAL/SECAM), standard 4:3 and 16:9 anamorphic widescreen[38]
* Component (including Progressive scan), RGB SCART (PAL only), S-Video (NTSC only), composite output, or D-Terminal[39]

Audio:

* Main: Stereo - Dolby Pro Logic II-capable[40]
* Controller: Built-in speaker

Well that all sounds rather nice, Video and Audio seem to be pretty good.

Storage is alright, but they have not got a hardrive in there, well not that I know of anyway, and that is what both the Xbox and the Xbox360 have got, and you can store music, save games and other things on there, and that is what makes it good, and you can listen to your very own music while playing your favourite games which is awesome, because some of the game's default music sucks really bad and I would prefer listening to my favorutie band rather then listen to that particular games music.

The CPU seems to be pretty god, I have read somewhere that the xbox360 may be a little more powerful, I am not too sure yet, but seeing as though Nintendo do not own any computers and all that (well not that I know of anyway), and Microsoft made use of some of the computer hardware and incorporated it into the Xbox consoles and that is what made them so good, DirectX and hardrives and good CPU and all that made it good, and that is what Sony and Nintendo failed to do with their consoles.

Well Thanks for that TA.

That has happend with alot of games aswell, Super Mario like you mentioned got worse as it was transferred to the Gamecube and Zelda aswell.
With SNES I think Zelda or whatever it was called back in those good old days was alright but then Nintendo succeeded in making it better as they transferred it to a better console and made it 3D, and that was a very good move for Nintendo, they did an excellent job of doing that, I think it was Nintendo but seeing as though Zelda is only on Nintendo Consoles I will just use Nintendo as the name

I think that when they made Zelda for Gamecube, they focused more on graphics and visual things rather then what is the most important: the gameplay.

I think that they kinda missed out on that, and that is why it isnt as good as it was on the Nintendo 64 console.

I wouldnt go to the PS3 TA

Stick to the good old Xbox, and yes Gamecube was designed for the Kiddies, and Xbox and PS2 for the more "hardcore" and more older people.
Although that may not be true, as I have seen some kiddie games on both Xbox and PS2, there were far less of those kinds of games as there were on Gamecube, basically Gamecube was a kiddies machine, although at times it did have some serious games, most were kiddies, and that is what I didn't particularly wanted.
