Savage: a tale of Beasts and Humans
for those that are not familiar with the games, this thread is about the best RTSS (Real Time Strategy Shooter) out there "Savage: Battle for Newerth" ...soon, there will be a sequel titled "Savage 2: A Tortured Soul" this thread however is only for the first game, as little is known about the sequel
The setting of the game is post-apocalyptic, after humanity managed to mess the planet up, the remaining humans are left in the stone age ...at the same time, the animals are given room and time to evolve into something more ...eventually they decide its payback time and humans must become extinct
the humans are split in tribes, each looking after their own, once the evolved beasts show up however, they are forced to band together under a single banner ...after the first leader is dead, his son (whose name i forget, something like Jerezzaiah) takes the lead and gets in charge of the newly forged Legion of Man ...humans gradually reinvent the wheel and reclaim some of the lost technologies (including plasma cannons and rocket launchers) that caused the earth to go fubar in the first place
on the other hand, with each passing day the beasts keep gaining ground and their raids seem to have a purpose, planned and intelligent ...the reason for this is Ophelia, the daughter of the first leader of men ...in self exile and with the ability to communicate with the beasts, as well as harness the latent magic of the world, she becomes the Queen of the Beast Horde
and this is where we come in... the players, the ones fighting the good fight on either side of the fence... either as soldiers, or as the commander, it is up to us to make sure our side wins ...and now, allow me to cut through the fluff and get down to the basics
each match can support up to 128 players, (normally with 2 teams, but there are servers with up to 4) one of them is the commander, the rest are the soldiers ...the commander's job is to build, harvest, research, sometimes buff the soldiers and when it comes to it, aid them in combat tactics ...for the players, the match is something not unlike a match of Quake, or Unreal Tournament, with team tactics being paramount
or i could just shut up and let Wikipedia do the job for me...
or even CtrlAltDel (great webcomic btw) ...as shown here, here, here, here and here

...So I suppose it's not free, is it? Because if it was, I'd be sure to give it a try.

free as in beer, not free as in speech
yeah, Savage 1 is free for all ...make sure you get SEP (Savage Enhancement Pack) too ...i am one of the old guard of the game, got it when it still cost money, but i am not regretting it one bit
that said, there are only two problems with the game:
- lag handling: sometimes you will be lagged to death
- addictive: once you pop, you never stop... "one more game" will become your new motto

Well right now, I am downloading it, I hope it will work, and I will be able to play it.
It looks like an awesome game.
