Artifacts versus Heroes type!
If this topic is already discussed please delete the thread and redirect me to the right one!
I was just wondering. Are there in HOMMIV artifacts that only certain Heroes can handle. For instance an Blade of darkness for the undead or something like that or a certain bow for the Preserve heroes, magic orb to asylum and stuff like that.
To my (not so humble) opinion this could make a very nice change in handling artifacts and choosing heroes when one has got muttiple different towns. Give me your opinion..why don't ya!

Be careful what you ask for here.....
So far, the only info we have on artifacts is that SOME artifacts seen in the pre-beta are something of a two edged sword, giving both a benefit AND a penalty to the user. This goes a long way towards helping balance them out, IMHO.
Your suggestion is a good one, but I'd make one tiny tweak. Have someplace you can sell/trade off unusable artifacts. In other words, either have all towns capable of building something like the Artifact Merchants in the Dungeon and Tower in H3, or make it a map site similar to the Altar of Sacrifice.
Even with an unlimited backpack, it could get tiresome rummaging around through tons of junk that's worthless to you, and if you sell it off, it denies them to your enemies, and may provide you with critical resources.
What you propose is a small step indeed from the skill-specific artifacts in H3 (for example, those three truly worthless artifacts to boost Eagle-Eye ). You could even go a step further, and have an artifact that has minor powers for everybody, and major powers for a certain class. Off the top of my head, let's say The Axe of the Berserker, for example. This axe could give a minor bonus in combat to everyone, but in the hands of a Barbarian, it could add magic resistance. Or The Cloak of Night, which would provide a minor degree of protection to any hero wearing it, but an Assassin would gain bonuses to Stealth and Combat.
Who knows if we'll actually see anything like this in H4, but as we've been saying all along...there's always the inevitable expansion pack.

Yep thats what I had i mind.
Perhaps there should also be a link to quest(guards) so you don't sell the wrong (needed) artifact. Could be realy anoying selling an artifact in map one of a campaign which you'll need in map eight!

Quote from official 3do HoMMIV page: "Hero-characters of any class can equip themselves with any artifact"
So there won't be any artifacts only usable by specific types of hero classes. And it's a good bet there will be artifacts enhancing skills and will therefore be more or less class specific: no barbarian will ever wear spell enhancing items. But artifacts more useful for some heroes classes than other classes? Unless it's skill based i don't think it'll be featured in HoMMIV...

go bact to heroes 2
This doesnt thrill me, there are enought crap arts, to be compared to possible good ones your opponent gets, the idea is fine, but to get good arts (and your # of arts of course limited on each section of maps usually) and not be able to use them really sux, In earlier days of heroes, I remember having to have a wisdom and leadership hero as scouts, just to be able to pick up arts, what a pain in the butt it was

If the AI will be anything like HOMM2, then these artifacts will have no benefit at all, and actually be like a cursed artifact. They will exploit the weakness you have from the artifact and you will probably not get to take much advantage of its benefit. Unless it's like that globe of anti-magic.. that was cool.

As you said it- there is the expancion. So here is idea I grew up from another expancion pack(Diablo II:LoD). Some of you may know that there are class-oriented items there, and they give skill(s) to it's wearer. You can also do that in HoMM, and it's better to be done with the advanced heroes, 'cause there are certain skills that the advanced hero must have, and those artifacts can surely give him something he needs.

Sorry, wasn't replying to you but to UnkaHaaden's bit of information from the beta.
Cursed artifacts serve no purpose other than to annoy. I'm sure everyone will try to get rid of them when they get one anyway, so all that it does is unnecessarily inconvenience you through trying to get rid of it. Its actual curses aren't much of a problem because everyone will get rid of them anyway.
