What's Your Favourite 6 Skills Combination?
You find your Elleshar in a Random XL Map with 1 opponent. The random artifact bonus resulted in a Spirit of Oppression. The feature, that allows you to pick any of the Commanders, has been enabled, Enhanced Commanders is disabled and Karmic Battles are enabled.
I'll be contributing later on, as will I lead the progress of my newly created thread here. The only reminder is to watch out that the combination of Skills have to fit in 4 Primary Skills!
Here is, for review, the list of 15 possible Skills:

Regeneration 50 HP every turn (Hit Points + Speed)
Death Stare (Damage + Magic Power)
Champion Distance Bonus (Damage + Speed)
Ignore Obstacles (fly) (Magic Power + Speed)

I prefer:
Maximum damage always (Attack + Damage)

The 3 only useful combinations(for me):
*Shooter*
Can Shoot (Attack + Speed)
Attack twice (Hit Points + Damage)
Maximum damage always (Attack + Damage)
Champion Distance Bonus (Damage + Speed)
Regeneration 50 HP every turn (Hit Points + Speed)
Fearsome (Attack + Hit Points)
-Champion Distance Bonus is not needed...But what you gonna do
*Butcher*
Reduce Enemy Defense by 50% (Attack + Defense)
Fearsome (Attack + Hit Points)
Maximum damage always (Attack + Damage)
Endless Retaliation (Defense + Hit Points)
Strike all Enemies around (Defense + Damage)
Attack twice (Hit Points + Damage)
-Slow,but deadly
*Fighter with (almost)magic immunity*
Fearsome (Attack + Hit Points)
No Enemy Retaliation (Attack + Magic Power)
Attack twice (Hit Points + Damage)
Melee Attack has 50% chance to Paralyze for 3 rounds (Hit Points + Magic Power)
Death Stare (Damage + Magic Power)

Hey guys!
Cool to see some fast replies, though now that I reread my first post after wog_edn's, I have to highlight something:
Watch out that the combination of Skills have to fit in 4 Primary Skills!
I'll bet there'd be a possibility to tweak the system for Commanders but if so, it wouldn't be implented in WoG options.

Usually:
Fearsome (Attack + Hit Points)

Or I change speed with defense...

Just a small correction:
Every Commander starts with an ability, regardless skill combinations.. So we can have up to 7 abilities with 4 skills..
(BTW,I always use Enhanced Commanders, is it ON here?)
.. therefore:
Tower Commander- Temple Guardian, Defense+HP+dmg+Speed
Can Shoot (Attack + Speed) * starting ability
Endless Retaliation (Defense + Hit Points)
Strike all Enemies around (Defense + Damage)
30% to Block any Physical Damage (Defense + Speed)
Attack twice (Hit Points + Damage)
Regeneration 50 HP every turn (Hit Points + Speed)
Champion Distance Bonus (Damage + Speed)
This is my default config against the AI. Commander can shoot if the enemy is too strong, and has good skills for close combat, plus maximum HP and defense with regeneration.
(all other skills and abilites are useless, if it can't survive )
In multi games it may be vulnerable against magical attacks. AI tends to not attack it with spells.
I also like to play with magic oriented heroes, so the Temple Guardian's built in magic well is extremely usefull.

Heya Doom!
My mistake, I should've known Enhanced Commanders is a crucial WoG Option for a thread like this. I've based this thread on my own settings mostly, so - as I have edited in the starting post - imagine the Enhanced Commanders option is disabled.
Rumplenicks seems to have Fly and Shield in your Commander screen, which isn't the case without the Enhanced Commanders option enabled. Still, you speak of pretty good tips for commanders.
There's two Commanders I'd like to use as part of my strategy.
Brute
- Gives 300+ Gold after every decent battle, as you gain at least 600 EXP for a decent battle;
- Bloodlust caster, combinable with creatures that cannot be retaliated against;
- Primary Skills: Attack, Defense, Damage, Magic Power - skipped HP as at level 10 the commander already has 200 HP then, and skipped Speed as you don't wanna send a 200 HP'd commander to the hostile creatures.
- Related Secondary Skills: Permanent Fire Shield, Reduce Enemy Defense by 50%, Maximum Damage Always, DeathStare, No Enemy Retaliation, Strike All Enemies Around
Astral Spirit
- Lowers the amount of hostile creatures by a max. of 20%;
- Counterstrike caster, combinable with a defense-oriented hero;
- Primary Skills: Attack, Damage, Magic Power, Speed - skipped Defense and Hit Points as this will be a shooter, but this would mean it'd be risky to attack archers.
- Related Secondary Skills: Can Shoot, Ignore Obstacles (Fly), Maximum Damage Always - and when in close combat, DeathStare, No Enemy Retaliation and, to increase the damage by an average 15%, Champion Distance Bonus.
