Quote: I don't play Imp maps. :-O Too hard for my humble gameplay. I wonder why I haven't seen it on h3trio. That silly dragon must have moved, mrr.
LoL it's interesting that you called Impossible maps as Imp maps -- Imp is after all super weak.
Well, the map lives up to its rating if you play it on Impossible. If you play it on Normal or Easy, it won't be as that dauntingly hard.
But, LoL, yeah, I guess, you may just want to take a look and play a bit. I don't want to be responsible if you get killed in battle.

I recently got an Archangel rating on "The Lord of War" map
but it ain't so much merit cos it is the perfect map to play on Impossible. You start with your initial town almost fully builded, so that lack of resources (the only handicap when playing Imposibble, cos the AI makes its best from Hard to Impossible difficulties) doesn't really matter.
Anyway, I always preferred to play in a "map clearance" mode. I prefer to see the full design of the map, and read all his timed events, although nowadays I'm changing my mind and playing in "speed demon" mode only to leave a good hall of fame before the arrival of HOMM4.

My best score was a 498...I don't think I found the grail, or if there was even one on there. I don't remember the name of the map(it was downloaded), but it was impossible and I played it on 200%, conquering the whole thing in 68 days. Thant was my hero. I had expert logistics and pathfinding, the eqestrian's gloves and boots of speed. The first Castle I took gave me town portal and my own castle gave me d-door. I had an unbelieveably good run and I doubt I'll ever get that score again, though I almost always get and archangel rating(usually 448-465).

It's not possible

You canNOT have this high score without building the grail. Unless there were 50 castles. You get 25 points for the grail in general.

I don't know how scoring is calculated, but I do know hard numbers. I did get a 498...just because you can't doesn't mean that others aren't able to.

I think I was clear
I have seen the formula of calculating the score and highest you can reach EVER is 500. If you don't have the grail, it's 475. *shrugs* I can leave you a link to see yourself.

OK... this is going to take a while.
It's on the MM portals and I have to dig for it. But I will do my best, just a sec.
The link:
http://www.mmportals.com/h3/h3scores.html
The formula itself:
200 - (# of days + 10) / (# of towns captured + 5), + 25 points for killing all enemies, + 25 points for finding the grail.
In addition, the selected difficulty is applied to the above formula. (Note, not the map difficulty, but the actual level you played the map). This is -20% for "Easy", +0% for Normal, +30% for "Hard", +60% for "Expert", and +100% for "Impossible."
So, for example, if you completed a map in 50 days on Impossible setting, defeated all enemies, captured 5 towns, but did not get the grail:
200 - ((50 + 10) / (5 + 5)) + 25 = 219 (x 200% for impossible) = 438
Now, let's play with numbers! Let's say you took your time and did the map in 90 days rather than 50:
200 - ((90 + 10) / (5 + 5)) + 25 = 215 (x 200%) = 430
That's only 8 points difference for almost twice the time! Conversely, let's say you did it very quickly, but went for a special win condition rather than killing all the opponents: (15 days (the division is rounded down, btw))
200 - ((15 + 10) / (5 + 5)) = 198 (x 200%) = 396
Big difference there! Now, lets say you had the choice of either getting one extra (neutral) town, or ending a game 5 days earlier:
200 - ((70 + 10) / (4 + 5)) + 25 = 217 (x 200%) = 434
200 - ((65 + 10) / (3 + 5)) + 25 = 216 (x 200%) = 432
Not much difference there.
In theory, the highest score you can get is 500. (If you created your own map where you pre-owned 13 towns, got the grail on day 1 and killed off some poor sap AI.)

486 (Archangel) on Tale of Two Lands. But it may not count, because it was an Allies game and my ally was my husband and therefore a much better player than the computer.
Gotta love da hotseat.

Poor Hexa. I think I'd burst pissed of is I was you.
Yes, Rogue, you are correct. I can provide to link to Ungo's Portals and show you the full formula if anyone wants it
Thanks, but I already have a javascript on my website that lets you put in the information and it calculates what your score will be for you.

I will take a look
For some strange reason on some maps you can get only 450 points at most. Like Vikings, We Shall Go. 450 is the top. :-((

If there is no grail on a map, you can only get 450 points.
Or if there's an un-reachable castle. Some maps actually have un-reachable castles with enemy players in them, and that's just to keep the map from ending if there is a different victory condition. Like if the goal is "find the grail" they might put one hero and castle in a place underground that can't be reached so you can't win by defeating all the enemies.

I got few times score 500. And they was normal maps. Created by other players. I remember first time. It was map clever kingdoms. I finished on or around 28's day and got the score 500. It was around 30-35 towns on it. and grail was found.
The second one was Realworld 2001 TE.

BTW my highest score's 496 playing the Lone Knight map.
I got 498 playing the Lone Knight(with inferno), Uprising (barbarian) and the Lord of War. BTW, I read some old threads and I think you know this map pretty well. Why you think inferno is the weakest in the Lone Knight? I think they are the best, especially if you want a high score.

Well... The topic was resurrected anyways... so...
My top rating in HoMM3 was Archangel, 434 points. Played a medium random w/ under vs. 2 comps on 200%. Not a great result, of course, but that was my first victorious 200% game (happened about a week ago).
