Quote: Have you noticed that Combat has been renamed to Melee on one of the latest HoMM4 screens on Celestial Heavens?
Yes I saw it. I think combat sounds better, but then again, we don't yet know the exactly effects of this skill and it's subskills. Maybe Melee is a good name anyway? Combat could very well become mixed up with Tactics, and Melee really states that the hero is a good fighter, and not just a tactician.
Anyway, I listed all the names of Heroes IV heroes shown in screenshots and the ones who will return from earlier games, etc. I'm surprised how flexible the town system is with the recruitment of heroes. I think it makes the game much better when heroes appears in more than one alignment.
Starter Class (towns, in which the caracter will appear)
Lord (Academy, Haven, Necropolis, Stronghold)
Grum
Teddor
Fafner
Mage (Academy, Necropolis, Haven)
Minasli

Archer (Preserve, Stronghold, Asylum, Haven)
Shiva
Jenova

BTW the listings on Celestial Heavens looks great, there's only some alignment problems in the might and magic section.

Since you don't know it yet:
Combat is still the primary skill, but the icon has changed. Combat now gives you a defense bonus, so that ranged attackers don't have to the take melee first. Melee gives extra hand to hand damage and has the old combat icon.
This helps all the mages out there, too, since they can now take combat, thus gaining a defense bonus, instead of having to take melee with an offense bonus first.

Sure..

Okay, then what you are saying in common language is just that the skill toughness is now called melee?

Yes and no. The way I understand it, Combat has been rearranged as follows:
Combat now gives a defensive bonus (extra hp) instead of an offensive bonus.
Toughness is now Melee and gives the offensive bonus that was originally associated with Combat.
Archery and Resistance have not changed.

Sorry, I didn't think much when writing the post. Now as I read it, it sounds.. strange. I edited it for a more reader friendly version.
Anyways, StormWarning got it right.
