Quote: A little tip for the start with necro:
If you put 1 skeleton archer in every empty slot of your army you can get even more mana out of mark of the necro, since every shot of an archer that hits the marked target gives you 1 mana, even if it does only 1 damage. They can also block your other creatures and take retaliations if necessary.
If you have eternal servitude all of the 1-archer stacks will be resurrected after the battle anyway, assuming you didn't lose any other troops.
Nice one, thanks.
@ elvin: Yeah, cutting the initiative of enemy creatures with Master of Ice is simply great for the slow Necro army too.

Lvl17 in three weeks with same Lucretia. Lucky I got like 35 Treants in W2 and my Spectres made surprisingly short work of dreaded Elder Druids for the gold mine. Even at Lvl10 with this hero Vamps become ultra-cute, dishing out decent damage and coming back from the dead all the time, over and over again.
Honestly, this is breathing new life into my messy relationship with HoMM V.
You might've noticed there's no Sylvan/Academy/Fortress discussion here. That's because I haven't played those factions enough to really elaborate on this.. plus, I just plain don't like them, sorry. It's quite well known that you do better at a job you actually enjoy.

Yeah, the extra ghost stacks in combat help a lot and his starting skills are fit for the magic way that suits necropolis. Not that it would be hard to get any of them.
I used to have Deirdre as my main as I just loved the boosted banshee howl and the obligatory dark magic. However although she is more open to other skill paths I have come to appreciate summoning now that motn is a racial skill with no prerequisites. Starting with it and getting an expert firetrap is very helpful.

Maybe not so much in 1.5. I wonder if 2.2 is going to add the change where the a.i. ignores summoned/gated units like Naadir's ghosts.

Maybe.. Anyway, Naadir will still be the best hero to be picked at the beginning because summoning and dark spells allow to creep with ghost fodders only and that means clearing a map with more than just one necromancer.
For example, while Naadir with ghost fodders only is clearing and haunting mines on the "left side" of the map with frenzy, mass slow, phoenix etc. some weaker necromancer(but with an army) may be clearing and haunting mines on the "right side" of the map.

So... anyone know any good fast creeping tactics for Sylvan/Academy?
I think someone (probably Doomforge) noticed how vulnerable Sylvan is to early rushes, just experienced that myself, ouch this hurts.

haha, right, I've wrote about this many times Yes, sylvan is extremely susceptible to rushes, especially magical ones: with low HP of the troops, early rush with meteor shower, or even less powerful spell, is extremely hard to repel. I think you should go destructive yourself (with imbue arrow), weak as it is, it still adds a bit of damage you desperately need, and with the new alternatives which are a bit more durable, things should be easier for sylvan.
Sylvan offers very powerful endgame, though. It may be worth to give this faction a try.

Academy. Take Nur or Havez and abuse.
Nur abuses with motw + frenzy(you won't always have it) and infinite summons. It's your main hero against the map but not necesserily the best main for final battle.
Havez is "just" another machinist like Deleb or Vittorio.. His main advantage is a chance of learning flaming arrows. If you want, you can abuse motw + frenzy with him too, why not.
Sylvan. Hmmm. Take Ossir and pray for weak non-shooting creeps. You have 2% chance of war machines so that may be the way to go sometimes.

In my last 3 games I've been offered war machines on the first or second level-up.
I wonder if individual heroes have different percentages. I like to play random heroes and usually use whoever I get.

My last game with Sylvan I took Imbue ballista, triple ballista, and was VERY VERY disappointed when I found that I could not imbue Word of Light But it was ok, I had an imbued Fireball with a cloak so it was fine.

Easy.
Play to win in a fair game but be a good sport about it.
Cheap shots & cheating is not competitive but a screwed up way to win.
