I myself am a fan of Shatter Destruction. I gave it to Gotai in TotE and he now has a very powerfull Fiery Wrath. Shatter Dark is nice too, as it leads to Corrupted Soil (a real overkill versus Inferno)

My usual Barbarian build is like this (generic Hero):
Attack
War Machines
Leadership
Luck
a Shatter skill (mostly Shatter Destructive, except versus Necro and Inferno => Dark)
Logistics

I can't give detail on the perks though, I'll need the skillwheel foor that and I'm writing this on my father's computer, onwhich H5 isn't installed. I'll add them later.

Shatter Destrucktion and dark are by far the most useful shatters there are, in terms of perks you get from them. They those you should take.

With Leadership, Att. and shatter dark or destrucktion - you got a powerhouse of angry orcs

Well I would be willing to have a match with you espen15.  Again I am not a very good player, but I have to say that Stronghold is anything but weak .  Sure as guardians/creeps (whatever you call them) and no hero they are kinda weak, but with the heroes they are a force .


Some perks I can remember off hand.

Leadership - Recruitment - Battle Elation.
Logistics - Tactics - Aura of swiftness (?)
Attack - Archery - Flaming Balista
War_Machines - (Two different ones both good) Balista - Tripple balista and either Tent OR Catapult
With Luck there are a couple ways to go but perks are not exactly needed.  One is Resourcefulness and MR with Barbarians Luck.  The other is Soldiers luck, MR and Barbarians luck.  Or Resourcefulness, MR, and Soldiers luck (not the best way to go tho).

However Defense can be interesting and a suprise for the enemy.  With Evasion it can help creeping a lot.

I agree.
I usually go for Destructive => Fiery Wrath/Mana Burst unless one of the following occurs:

1) My main Hero is Kragh
2) My opponent is Necropolis
3) My opponent is Inferno
4) the enemy Hero is Faiz

In all those cases I prefer Dark => Corrupt Soil/Weakening Strike

Light is average (saved by the "Refined Mana-Sky daughter-combo") and Summoning is downright weak (choosing this only for Fog Veil is sheer madness)

War_Machines..tent or Catapult (Stronghold) and why.

Tent if early, for creeping.  Cuts down on losses.
Catapult if mid-late game.  Simple, with one flyer and one ranged creature, the object is to knock down the walls FAST.  Catapult helps that.  Sure some Cyclops help can be useful, but this will help get your troops into the door

i had never want to play custom game with stronghold faction because it hasnīt potential i mean no spells, too slow, no speed, no creatures that i would want to put into the dream team, barbarians are out of their league.

true,even duration 5-10turns can be very destructive,and PM turn or two duration is enough if you cast it on cyclops or excicutioners

You can predict what kind of magic the enemy hero will take quite well. You won't see many knights with destructive or runemages with dark magic, and each and every necromancer is going to have dark vs. stronghold. The only faction that is tough to predict would be academy, as they can be good with any magic school.

Orcs need magic too to survive or else they get defeated. In heroic difficulty on map "A survival war" i can defeat stronghold faction playing computer more easily than the other factions and if i play with stronghold i can win computer only if i play on normal.

Use that and go beat up some Hard AI's for me, then come back and tell me that they suck.

Can't really go by AI.  It makes some rather odd mistakes.  Human enemies are much tougher.  Mostly I think you are going about Stronghold wrong if you are having trouble playing as them.  They were designed to let new players play competively (imo).

Orcs have a bit of magic...they are called shouts and shamans.  They counter magic by shatter magic skills.  Here is a couple of secrets with Stronghold.  Light (except perhaps Divine Vengance) is not a major concern for them.  When they are at full rage their enemy using light just evens the playing field.

Destruction (with the exception of maybe Dungeon) is not a major concern either.  It does damage, rage absorbs damage..they can start with up to 150 rage with just having Memory of our blood and one certain building in one town (with bloodfire).  Not to mention if they get Ultimate Rage (500 or 750 rage at the beginning of battle).  So destruction is not a huge concern for them.

That leaves one nasty, and one sort of nasty spell school.

Dark..and if the enemy has ANY possibility of having dark a stronghold player will take Shatter dark...and summons.

Summons main threat for them is phoenixes.  4 points and they don't have to worry about that much (expert shatter summons and exorcism).
Elementals and phantom forces can easily be handled.

Now Dark is a bit harder for them, and takes 6 points to hamper, but 9 times out of10 they are going to take these if offered.
With Corrupt, Weaken, and Detain (along with Might over magic) dark spells will not be very effective against them.

Don't get me wrong however.  Shatter Destruction is also useful.  Especially to help creeping or as Lexxan said

But, he should go one step at a time. If he gets beat up by a human player while playing Stronghold, he'll just have another reason to say they suck.

That's why I mentioned the Hard AI's.

EDIT:

@Misty: Oh you meant what he said?

Um...yeah. Well, the computer doesn't know how to use Orcs at all. It charges Chieftains to the front lines in the first turn, which has got to be one of the most idiotic moves of all time. Commanding Presence doesn't do you much good if there's no one next to the Chieftains.
