What's happening to TOH ??
Noticed lesser and lesser players online. Most seems have quitted or so, what's happening, what is preventing players to start a game ?

well SQ79 you may have right.... (thats just to bad)
but now it's summertime so maybe ppl. do other things than sit inside and play heroes.... (even tough the weather here where I'm living has been really bad the last weeks..)
and I'm still an active player... (I play regulary against my clan mate fraudatio, who is busy with stealing my ranking points....)
and it's kinda strange so far I've not played you nor Cycleguy...
I hoping the activity is back on track when ToE comes......
"happy summer"

I still try to play when I can. I don't check online as often as I used to though, because I've been shut out too many times. Experienced players are keeping the playing pool low, by not playing newer players. At least those ranking points keep up though.

Hehe, Fiur ive been looking forward to playing both you and fraudatio forever but you guys always are playing eachother when im online I finally got to play fraudatio....one of the nicest players ive had the opportunity to play so far, I can see why you like to play him.
I think you are absolutely correct with the weather/heroes gaming relationship, my activity falls during the summer when I can actually ride my motorcycle.
Its kinda scary though, I was looking through the clan page counting the number of people I still see playing about a week ago and only got to 15, I hope this is just a phase and activity picks up.
In my opinion I think the issue could be advertising. In h3 everyone went to msn gaming zone and could just ask "ToH game anyone" and anyone in the room that saw it would most likely check out the site, now with ubi and all ToH playing exclusively on Hamachi I dont see how anyone would ever find out anymore so theres no new blood

what is strange, is that I get about 5-10 new member signups a day. So people ARE coming to the site...just not playing. Its basically 10 new member signups for every 1 game played lol.
Yes indeed, we shall see if the expansion pack will boost activity. but then again, once the excitement dies from the expansion pack, then what?

Naturally summertime takes a toll on the activity of any game. I myself decided to go back to work this summer, because mainly I was growing bored of sitting waiting for games, and eventually playing the same game everytime I logged in. I have been trying to get a few games in recently but my time is so short that I can't possibly sit and finish a game 9 times in 10 and therefore the saves get made, and then hooking up with player x to finish game y seems near to impossible.
I'm having a great time working again though, I think the 8 months of retirement (very early retirement) just didn't enough intellectual stimulation for my brain and made me very bored, during tax season I started preparing a few bigger clients portfolios and re-balancing the ones I had under management and found a nice flare for doing it again.
Its true though, when you log into toh chatroom or msn you find it quite bleak and empty. At least during the times of day I am looking for games. I'd like to see activity rise again in the fall and hopefully I can make some time for some more great games. Also in summertime alot of people leave schoools and head home, sometimes this can also cause lapse in activity as internet changes and different priorities, responsibilities than during the school year.

I almost feel that the fact that I don't actively log into the toh chatroom (and leave it logged in all day) these days has reduced activity. Almost like the 'presence' of people encourages activity.

Sure, it does! One should never underestimate the crowd effect!
Me and Zilonite are idle in TOH as well, but for different and, i'd say, disturbing reasons - we are actively playing arena tournament in russian regional heroes portal. The important question is - why did we migrate???
Strangely, as big TOH fans we both are, we were forced to move our nets to where the fish is - that russian site is booming with activity despite poor internet quality, summmer time and 100 times smaller potential players pool...
What is their secret??? Answer is plain and simple - variety of tournaments, lots of advertising in other heroes portals, bunch of sysadmins, tournament prizes from sponsors.
Obviously, among all those hooks advertising is the popularity kicker card!!! For example, when new tournament starts it is being announced in major heroes news portal. Basically, informantion flow is interconnected between various sites.
What are the bottomline conclusions? In order to survive, TOH needs to be lifted to a new level in terms of management effort AND player devotion. That must be our collective effort, not Vesuvius alone.
Naturally, what is meant by "management effort" would stem a great deal of discussion and that is the right start. Same goes for experienced players' involvement in attraction of new players.
In other words, those times are gone when Heroes Multiplayer was one of the few great things in gaming industry and its name alone could attract tons of folks. Now, with hundreds of MMORG and the whole industry being on different level, for simple site of TOH that is NOT INCLUDED INTO INFORMATION CIRCLE it is very hard to be competitive. TOH just gets lost among flashy game developers' portals and integrated multiplayer suites.
On final note I'd like to provide an example of Converse brand. It started as official sneakers for NBA and worldwide success story, and lost its market share to ~0.6% in 2000. Very similar to TOH - former major heroes portal and indeed the unofficial world championship. But Converse (like TOH) had its BRAND name and with proper reorganizational efforts it's back on horse!!!
That would be my biggest heroes dream - to see TOH again as "world heroes championship". We have the name but world has rapidly shifted - TOH MUST adapt or slowly vanguish...
P.s. After the end of that russian arena tournament in two weeks me and Zilonite are back and hopefully for a loooooong stay

Thanks for the kind words cycleguy! I can only send them back, it was a most enjoyable game
My thoughts on the subject of low activity
Maybe my situation is representative for others here, so I`ll take that.
I work full time, have a wife and a daughter (11 months), and obviously that leaves only limited time to playing Heroes. As a resault of this, WHEN I have time to play I rarely play new players. I pick the games where I KNOW I will have a great time, vs the likes of Fiur, Zilonite, SQ, Cycleguy, Betruger etc.
Then, why these players and not everyone else?
Well, mostly coinsidental, I happen to have played these and know them.
Secondly, they(you ) are flexible, and can play any interesting map that comes along. Nowadays I only play random faction and random hero, and this is a problem versus some players who wont do that. I also like to try out new maps, and play rich ones.
Thirdly, they all use about the same time as I do, meaning quite some time in the first weeks. Time is never an issue when we play. The one thing I hate is to play when you know your opponent are waiting, and you have 3 more fights that round... I cant enjoy the game if I know the other player is bored to death first weeks.
Last, and maybe most important, this is due to me being a bit unflexible, i see that one. But, given my limited time (maybe I can be lucky and get 2 games a week) I chose that route.
If I had been 10 years younger, I would probably have played 5-10 games a week, and things would have been totally different.

I can tell you that people don't really know about TOH, and also when I go to the TOH page it's a little tough to see what's going on. It is easier now to see how to register, but not everyone wants to be in a clan. Some people just want to play casual games.
There's a thread in the ubisoft forum tech support right now about people who can't get onto the ubisoft server. I'm ready to jump in and say use hamachi, look at TOH. However, in my own experience I couldn't get Hamachi working.

For hamachi, you can download the older version, newer sucks and never works well for me.
Hehe i always ask fiur for game and he is playing fraudatio usually , its sad i can't meet the timing to play most players nowadays, but i'm still continuing to play alot despite trying to quit.
If hamachi is the problem, revert to older version in found in oldapps.com and all can start to play again
Istari, if u see me on, and want some fast points, feel free to msg me for game if i can meet the timing

what I never understood is why people don't report their games no matter what 'league' they are playing in. They are registered in multiple leagues after all.
Anyways, ToH won't be disappearing, other leagues are fads that come and go, it has been so for ages... ie. 10 years. Records, consistency, history will be ToH.
But along with that consistency & continuity I can't let duel games or mini-game be played for points... Though I am preparing a special 'offline' tourney.

It's summer...normal activity to be low. I have alot stufs for doing and dont have time for play.
About mini turnament and duels for points. Its bad idea. Heroes is game where you need skill to build towns/heroes and loss minimal army befor meet your oponent. Duel/Mini games are for fun only.

I suppose you have registered on www.toheroes.com?
All you have to do is contact people with msn, play some games online and report win or loss in the above link. The msn adresses can be found in the meeting players thread.
