A day in the life as Mrs MOM...

Endless time...I wish.

Are you kidding...life isn't all that funny sometimes you know.
It is work...most if not ALL of it.

I am calling in sick.

Oh wait....

I can't. I am a stay at home mom with absolute loads of time on my hands.

Right?

You know, you'd think I did.

After all, all I do everyday is sit at home. Drink coffee. Smoke.
Maybe once in a while I meander around and actually DO something.

Okay.

Let me put this one to rest right NOW.

My job title...as it is...right now is homemaker. Housewife.

Domestic Engineer.

I AM Mrs. Mom.

For all the non married folks and non parents...let me explain to you EXACTLY what it IS that I DO every day.
For NO pay.
For NO days off.
24/7
Sometimes a hard and largely thankless job.
The benefits greatly stretch over long periods of time.
And man alive if you screw up...you WILL know about it...sometimes for YEARS to follow.

I used to have a "real" job. In the medical field.
Let me tell you, some days I would GLADLY trade what I do NOW, for THAT.
But most days i wouldn't trade it for anything.

Sometimes I have a LOT to do and zero time...other days the list is short, but with my kids, husband, friends and pets, not to mention what I still manage to participate in for online things....

I say "BAH!"

Right now I am in a relatively "easy" stage of my job.
Both of my children are at an age where they can be sufficient, and the older one can supervise the younger without too much problem for short...let me REPEAT that...SHORT amounts of time.

But don't let their ages fool you...
Along with their ages comes their respective fights with each other and every one else around them.
Sometimes morning is one drawn out battle and I wont lie when I say I heave a long relieved sigh when that school bus pulls away...
4 hours of QUIET.
SILENCE.
PEACE.

It can be an amazing thing.

The alarm clock would ring at 10 to 6 am, and I know I would get elbowed a couple times before I would drag my behind out of bed.

Morning sucks for me...BADLY...and I have had to train myself to even be halfway coherent.
I would have enough time to suck down my first cup maybe two of coffee...
Drive my husband to work.
Even in South Dakota, morning traffic can be a nightmare.
I would get back at 10 after 7, have another cup of coffee and converse with my son.
Wake up the mini-terror, feed her and get her ready for school...
See my son off with a few dollars, and hurry to gather up my daughter's school bag and coat.
Missing gloves are tracked down all while tuning my ears to the street and the bus pulling up.

They wait for NO one.

When screech up to the door, I rush Cayle out there and hand her off to the bus assistant.

Now onto housework, and running errands.
Depending on the day I wait to do the errand running until my daughter comes home, but usually better to run first in case she is in need of a nap.
I figure housework is ALWAYS around to do.
And errand running is usually time sensitive things…rent…bill payments.

So a typical errand/housework list is:

Go to store.
Hit up the bank.
Pay ABC utility bill
Clean cat boxes
LAUNDRY!

haul groceries in and put them away
File bank stuff
Mail bill
Clean cat boxes and haul out the used litter
put away dishes in drainer

Check the time.

Throw in a load of laundry, pull whatever is still in the dryer out.

Make another pot of coffee.
Do I have time for a shower?

No? Awwww...crap.

Watch for bus.
They are 15 minutes late coming back.
so for 15 minutes I internally geek out thinking I missed them while I was in the laundry room...

I pluck my daughter off the bus and she is in a mechanical mood…read that: she needs a N-A-P so badly...and she is going to positively suck until she passes out. LOL

I feed her a snack and something to drink and for the next 3 hours until my son gets home, I wrestle with my mini Diva and her attitude from hell.

9 times out of 10 she will NOT fall asleep.

So the change as of late is my husband's schedule change and now we get to take him to work after Cayle gets home from school.
This reserved its own set of issues since now my daughter doesn't particularly LIKE taking her dad to work, or more specifically, doesn't want to let him get out of the car.

So I get to listen to her freaking out the whole way home about how she wants her daddy.
Even after all of that emotional gushing from her...9 times out of 10 she STILL won't fall asleep.
The biggest tease is when she does fall asleep and I CAN get her out of the car, but when I go to lay her down in her bed or on the couch...she wakes up and that was more than ample "recharge" time for her and she is once again full throttle until bedtime.

ARGH!!!!

My son gets home and the "fight night" attitude between the two kids goes full tilt on me.

"Mom she has my dude"

"Mom he pushed me"

Followed by shrieks and yelling. Crying, gnashing of teeth and a generous helping of fire and brimstone from the heavens tops it all off.

Okay...

Maybe not exactly like that...but you can see why I would say that don't you?

It seems like Hell sometimes…really it does.
Okay...maybe not Hell.

A clown car routine.

Come to my house for a week.
Let it explain itself to you...LOL

So...thankfully my son doesn't usually have homework, he gets a good amount of down time to do as he pleases.
I try and make calls around this time since it is when most people are home.
This is also a good time for me to hop online if the kids don't have me too wrapped up...
IF there isn't company over.
So, we play games, hang out with friends, or watch movies until I get dinner on the table.

After dinner, my son does his dishes and takes care of the animals while I try and get my daughter in the bath.

Don't forget to clean up the random cat puke, the wayward socks the boys left on the floor, the lone sock one of the cats drug up from downstairs, or the ever present spills and miscellaneous small bits of paper walked over 14 times before I finally stoop to pick it up.

Throw in vacuuming, dusting, errands not usually on the list, unexpected company and longer than usual waits in lines at the bank or at the store.
Maybe that particular day I watched a friend's kids' when she had an appointment, or had appointments myself or for the kids.
Doctor appointments.
Conferences.
Pick-up's and drop off's.

More running.

Rush hour traffic, and why I almost refuse to do any running between the hours of 4:00 and 7:00 pm.
Okay I realize it isn't Chicago rush hour traffic here...but it still sucks regardless.

And people need to wonder WHY I am exhausted when they talk to me?

Pj's are put on and around 10, I hustle both the kids off to bed although my son gets a few extra minutes.

I pick up my husband, send my son off to bed if he isn't already in his room when we get back.

I tie up my loose ends...meaning:

The shower I didn't have time for.
The load (or sometimes loads) of laundry I forgot about.
Setting out my daughter's clothes for school the next day.
Making dinner and coffee for my husband.
Running the garbage out
Cleaning the toilet.
Washing the dishes my son forgot downstairs.
Putting my son's watch where he can find it.
Making my "to-do" list for the next day.
Checking the calendar for appointments the next day.
Picking up toys, folding blankets and putting pillows back on the couch.
Wiping the counters.
Writing something for Myspazz, and now...here, or even just for myself once in awhile.

And maybe, MAYBE then, I will have time then to really SIT and enjoy a cup of coffee without interruption.

Maybe.

Yeah. Loads of time.

By the end of my day,it is around 1 or 2 am.

Thankfully with the new schedule I get a late start with Cayle.

So. Sometimes I get a break.

But still…let's put this I-have-loads-of-time idea to rest.

Got it?

Good.

{Smiles}

Have you read "Carpe Demon"?  It is a very good book that I think you would enjoy.  The subtitle to "Carpe Demon" is "Adventures of a Demon Hunting Soccer Mom"

No I dont believe I have ever read that. but I think I will check it out.
Funny enoug I am known as the vampire soccer mom and most of the other moms wont sit by me at school functions.
You dont suppose it is the tattoos, piercing and leather jacket do you? LOL

But I will definitely see if I can track down a copy of that book.
