I was thinking that you would have to change the color bit system in the Control Panel folder or something like that, but I also thought that Windows XP has a program that adjusts for older games too. And yeah, HoMM1 is still a great game even for todays complicated AI play. Once you get past the older graphic design, enjoy the gameplay. It Rocks!

You could get it work whit Dos-box program but i tryed that sometime ago and the game still crashed.
Windows version of the game would be best choice but it's little hard to find.

To make an old program work on XP, press right click on it, click on "Properties", go to "Compability" and then choose "Run this program with compability mode for Windows 95".

The graphics may be a little dated but the gameplay really makes up for it. For gameplay, it may be the best of the HoMM series.

Press 'c'. You only get one cast per round (when your fastest creature goes again you can cast again). Kings Quest was great.

lool, Angelito already said about compatibility mode, and he already said it didn't work, so I dunno what that guy was doing, lol.
Anyway, it sucks, since I do not have Windows XP, and I really wanna try homm1 again.
I might give dosbox a try later on.
