Man this game is awesome.
Took me forever to actually find a place that stocked it. I didn't bother pre-ordering because I only got back home about 2 weeks after the release so I kinda figured I'd be alright by then.
I should have known that Microsoft was going to deliberately understock it
I only got it yesterday so I haven't finished it yet but I'm feeling like I'm dangerously close (up to the level where you land on the beach and have to break into the barrier to find Truth), as if the game is nearly over it's pretty damn short..
I should finish it soon anyway.
I mean, it's not that different to Halo 2, but they just ditched everything that people didn't like (being the Arbiter, the graphics that jump in just that bit too slow), added in the things missing from Halo 2 (the battle rifle, a bunch of new vehicles and weapons) and improved on everything that was good about it.

Finished the fight.
Awesome ending. Took them three games but they've perfected it. No comparison to the cliffhanger of Halo 2

Ive always thought the game is somewhat overrated. Sure its a good game. Definatly not a bad game . And maybe even a really good game. But i have to say that its nothing special. theres hundreds of first person shooters out there , theres nothing innovative about it. Sure multiplayer is nice but otherwise its a pretty standard game with nice graphics and a good storyline.

Exactly what i said early on. its nothing special. All you do in it go around shooting things really. Theres no innovation or really special stuff. No new ideas or special things incorporated into the game. Sure that doesnt make it bad but it doesnt make it the best game ever either.

Actually the concept is really old
Quote: The concept goes back at least as far as the 1920s, in the works of E.E. 'Doc' Smith and others; and William Hope Hodgson's The Night Land (1912) has the Last Redoubt, in which the remnants of humanity shelter, protected by something very like one. Although fictional, deflector shields have some resemblance to real devices such as magnetic field generators or plasma windows
Maybe it was the first gaem to use recharging energy shields in itself but the concept itself goes nearly 90 years back

Does Every game need to be innovative to be good???

Tie Fighter had recharging shields. Or did you mean the first shooter?
Anyway, you are right games don't need to be "innovative", everything has been done 10 times over.
Increasing what you can do in the game world and telling stories are the most important things to me.
There are many unexplored settings...

I can understand what you mean. That's exactly how I felt about Oblivion. It wasn't bad...but it was nowhere near amazing. I've had much better experiences in rpg's but you wouldn't be able to tell by looking at average game review scores...

I think one of the most innovative and original games, is probably the GTA Series.

Man that cliffhanger was just like...what?? lol!
I love the halo series because it has a great depth in storytelling. The Halo FPS saga just told the present story arc.
I would love to find out like:
1: From which extragalactic scource does the Flood came from?
2: How did the Forerunners look like?
3: How did the surviving races get out from their safe haven, the Ark and at the same time being primitive, inhabit/return to their planets through that portal?
And this is a very mindboiling good theory from bungie.net
The Forerunners may not be the most advanced race in our galaxy at all but yet an older rsivilisation! Named precurser below.
Info about tech tier if you wonder (dont forget to feed on all the nice info about the rest of Halo in there, alot to learn if you are a newbie in the halouniverse, or if you just didnt pay attention or think of...
Tech Tier
Quote: Say there was once a very advanced civilization in our galaxy that protected life and was [ tier 0? ]
Then they are obliterated by the flood or something else and only small bits of evidence is left that they exist. A long time after their destruction a race called forerunner discover these remnants. What if these forerunners were one of the forms of life that the precursers fostered according to 'the mantle'
The forerunner act as the prophets did, they use the technology to advance themselves and take on a religon .'the mantle' of protecting life in our galaxy like how the covenant took on the path of the great journey when they discovered forerunner artefacts. Fast forward to the introduction of the flood and the discovery of humanity. maybe the forerunner thought that humans were special because we may be connected to precurcors. If we are precurcer or connected to them it may be why we hold secrets to forerunner origins as the precursers may once have held the 'mantle' and looked after the early forerunner.
As I said before, this would make a nice twist.could be sort of like a never ending sequence of events.
1- flood obliterate advanced race ie: precurcer
2-fostered species discover this and mimick the precurcor race ie: forerunner
3-flood obliterate advanced race ie: forerunner
4-fostered species discover this and mimick the precurcer race ie: covenant
or --- a sequence of events that leads to us reclaiming our lost history
1-flood obliterate advanced race :ie humans
2-a fostered species discover this and mimick them ie: forerunner
3-forerunner discover humans and see a link with their 'precursors'
4-forerunner are obliterated
5-humans then will discover and reclaim the technology that the forerunner originally copied from humans

If you pay attention to the story and dialog in halo 3, the flood come from Gravemind [the huge tentacle monster that was in Halo 2]
also, there is a part in halo 3 where the Prophet of Truth or Gravemind [don't remember which] says that the Forerunner are ancestors of Humans...

Man legendary is too hard for me.
Normal is a walk in the park, Heroic is challenging at times but overall pretty easy. Legendary is just frustrating
As for being overrated:
I'm probably wrong, but didn't it gross more at sales night than any other game? And it doubled xbox360 sales.
Anything that sells that much has GOT to be overrated, it's a mad craze and bungie knows how to play it.
But that doesn't stop it from being my favourite recent game.
It's not that innovative in terms of FPS games but it just seems to do everything right, and still be really balanced.
My only problem (well, not a problem really) with Halo 3 is the slightly gimmicky equipment they added in, which is more of a novelty than anything. But they're optional and aren't a huge part of the game (especially in multiplayer from what i've seen) so it doesn't bother me.

About the Forerunners;
I think this has been refuted, but I think that Humans are the Forerunners.
There was a whole lot of evidence for this that I read/noticed but I forget alot of it now
But I think that Humans evolved along time ago and spread across the galaxy, then when the encountered the flood they triggered the halos and killed everyone (including themselves). However some survived (possibly in the Ark, though I only think this because of the name...), but in doing so lost all technology and everything and started again as humans.
This could be why the portal to the Ark was on Earth, and also why the humans weren't offered to join the Covenant (Prophets see them as impostors or something).
Also I kinda got that idea from the dialogue of Cortana and Guilty Spark.
Though the halo wiki says this isn't true. Even though Spark says "You are Forerunner!" at the end

Of course I do! I meant the origin of the flood specie. They say in the bestiarium that the Forerunners states the flood as extragalactical, ie not from this galaxy.
Quote: also, there is a part in halo 3 where the Prophet of Truth or Gravemind [don't remember which] says that the Forerunner are ancestors of Humans...
Truth mention that in a way to Avery Johnson. Also when GS 343 are pissed off, he says to MC that "you are forerunner"
It may mean two things
1: As many have found out, that especially Spartan John 117 MC have a forerunner protein genomen which are forerunner.
2: The Forerunner race are the humans ancestors and we were pretty much alike.
