Splitting gobbos is a terrible idea. Better split Chieftains or Shamans into one big and one small stack for either double Order of the Chief or more Haste/Slows. If you had a one big stack of Gobbos then you could trap down those bears or mountain guards.
Earth Daughters are a much better choice because of hexing Attack and no retaliation againts Slowed units.
Hasting 20 Cyclops when you can Slow 150+Bears isn't the best idea.
Thanes have to killed faster than Lavas.
200 Skirmishers are definetly not top priority kills either 
Keeping your stacks so tightly together the entire game, escpecially seeing that he has the Rune of Battlerage is a huge mistake with Thanes around.
You do know that Centaurs can perform nicely in melee too right? (provided that you ate up the retaliation). Using your entire army as meatshields just to keep them shooting is a very, very bad idea.
After seeing Rune of Ressurection you have to concentrate on his units taking them down one by one. But you didn't have that possibility later on anyway
100% for permament -3 Luck with Bloodeyed Cyclops is usualy a better deal than a slim chance for Bash from the Untames. They also have better Speed and Initiative.
Warmongers, Maradeurs and Chieftains are a good idea if you will be charged and not charging
Wyverns aren't hot anyway.

Defense is an important skill vs dwarves or any faction that involves tough melee. Swift mind can be nice but you kinda wasted it by using a lvl 1 warcry, any other would have been better. You played defensively when orcs are an offensive race, might have worked with dv but you did not change tactics afterwards. Btw don't disregard the fact that he had higher level than you as well as better stats.
And don't play maps with divine vengeance, most overpowered spell in the game Or set a rule that it won't be used in battle.

Thank you for your advice and analysis.
I never really played the Dwarves much, and didn't know how crazy rune magic could get. The moment when my friend's thunder thanes attacked each adjacent stack guarding my centaurs after getting some kind of battle rune, I knew I was in trouble.
In retrospect, I probably should have started off with Horde's Anger on his thanes. It would have killed around 15 or so of them.
I didn't know divine vengeance was that powerful, or that people created a rule not to use it. I usually play either Dungeon or Stronghold, so I don't know too much about the higher level Light Magic spells.
Do you know where I can get some good Stronghold replays?

maybe DV is imba,but you could win this pretty easily with even bigger imba thing this late
just 1 big stack of goblin witch-doctors would prevent him from casting any spell
edit: maybe not since he had pretty good sp,but that sure is better than setting snares

ok, those are just against the AI, but well...
fighting a much bigger army with very bad magic (I think I had magic arrow, bless, raise dead and lightning bolt) that's the strongest hero of the 1st map of the necro campaign in ToE. if you wonder why my army is so weak, it's because I didn't capture any town, I creeped the whole map with my starting army (I was convinced the towns would have walls and towers and I would get crushed)

I finally managed to play 2 whole matchs without disconnection against jaba.
for some weird reason, I forgot to save the 1st, where I got humiliated
I had inferno, he had stronghold. not only I have no clue how to play inferno, but he had 19 attack and 13 defense.
of course, I had to pick triple ballista and forgot to buy the ballista (I used my remaining gold to buy an artifact that I was actually unable to equip)
and then, at the 1st turn of my hero, instead of casting mass weakness, I clicked defend by mistake.
2nd match was my necropolis against his haven, and this time I won.
he had no light magic, but power of speed + mass slow gave me trouble in the beginning. didn't bother countering since his hero was playing right after mine, instead I weakened his army and casted vampirism. the zealots gave me trouble, didn't want to die and kept dispelling vampirism

wow just had one of the most exciting battles; i won against a much bigger army led by a hero 8 levels higher than me without dark or divine vengeance.
me: 15th lvl nebiros w/:
18 priests
33 battle griffins
27 archangels
67 cavaliers
357 marksmen
257 squires
no conscripts, all 1000+ were slain along with another sizable army by the enemy:
23rd lvl narxes w/:
38 ghost dragons
33 spectral dragons
180 vampire princes
144 arch-liches
50 banshees
bear in mind his attack was higher than mine, although my defense was a few points higher
anyone care to guess how i beat him?

Marksmen abuse?  These guys can clear whole stacks with a well placed shot, especially when buffed. Last stand could help as well.

yes that's right. but the reason i didn't use a haven hero was because i needed to charge to block the power liches and hit the vampires.
therefore most of the enemy was on the other side and it would be difficult to use the precise shot on them. but teleport assault did the trick. you can also just use the teleport spell, but this is much chancier
after i fought this battle, i felt that the two factions with the most potential in a rich map are necro and haven. the necro hero basically captured several other towns and converted them all to undead, creating a giant army. i was constantly on the run and badly pressured losing several armies, but eventually my secondary hero got teleport assault and i had him fight this battle
haven's army is probably the deadliest because of increasable amounts of marksmen/champions, 2 devastating units, but their deadliness is seriously enchanced by teleport assault(esp champions w/ vampirism) and high attack; sorcery also helped and i have 2 pieces of the lion set.
i am excitedly waiting to get the 3rd piece to get empathy, expert sorcery and vampirism to reach the demon lord's max potential as a foreign hero using the teleport assault strategy and more epic battles await!

Here is a replay of me I have saved all this time as it is really interesting for me. In heroic difficulty against AI, my 36 Pit Spawn VS AI's 259 Flame Lord. And I gave no casualties  I had Urgash's Call. It's HERE

HERE again without having any loss, I beat with my Inferno army, AI's army of 1186 Mummies, 2858 Vampire Lords and 1814 Spectres. I had Urgash's Call, Sandra's Cloak and Dark Magic.
