H5 Satisfaction Poll

Now when we have the complete version of Heores of Might and Magic 5, let's check how satisfied are the Heroes players in the forum. This poll might help to know what to improve for the next versions/pathces. The players' opinion matters the most.

The poll is devided to several categories. The rating for each category is from 1 to 10, when 1 is the worst option and 10 is the best option. There is a specific explanation of the rating for every category.

Please check that you have the latest version of HOMM5 before you participate in the poll. If you don't have it, you may reduce points for things that have already been fixed.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Variety of Towns
Mark from 1 to 10. 1 means "Poor variety" and 10 means "Perfect variety".

My campaign rating is based on the impressions I got from TotE so far, I haven't finished the campaigns yet but they are definitely better than the previous ones in H5. For the campaigns of the original game I would give 2 points at most.
Multiplayer became better with simultanous turns and duel mode is a good step towards more variety in multiplayer, but I wish there were more options here.
The skills system was already very good in H5, and TotE adds more options for every faction This offers us more strategic possibilities and better variety in our games.

OK, the game will be more balanced with upcoming patches(I hope), the only thing that bothers me is the slowness during AI's turn. I think the loading times aren't so worse.

I guess the enjoyment will improve with TotE, because of all the new things.. But the others only had me for a couple of weeks..

The storyline has also been improved, why i gave it 3 grades. I couldn't make an overall rating.. since there is big difference

I think there are too few towns in H5.
And too many "6 humans 1 creature" towns.
But otherwise the towns are really, really good.

As i said before, to many "6 humans 1 creature" towns.

The graphics an the eye candy is really nice but a little bit to "childish/cartoonish" and unrealistic.
Fat peasents wtf.

I must say that ´some magic towns are muuccchhhh stronger than other. Think Dungeon.
Otherwise its rather balanced but some towns like Fortress, Dungeon and Haven are a bit overpower.

I really enjoyed H5. But when i first started i got stuck many, mnay times in the campaigns.
I dont like the "rush, hurry!" missions.

I just love the alternate upgardes! <3

Its okey but some things are really, really stupid

I have not played much singel player but when i first started i thougt that some stacks were to hard ;P
But i was a noob then.
The AI is weird.

I have never played multiplayer in H5 lÖl.

Loading time sucks but the speed in the game is very "balanced" and good

I like it. What i dont like is that you dont know which abilties to get to get the ultimate....
That made the campaign harder for me.

While some schools are really effective and good and almost have no useless spells some are really boring... think summoning.

I would give H5 8/10.
Heroes 3 would get 9,5/10¨.
I have heroes 4 3,5/10.
And heroes 3 6,5/10.

Oh well, it's saturday night, so I'll give my 5 cents.

1. Variety of Towns
It is not entirely clear to me what this category covers. I think the Towns are well varied in terms of visual theme, and the new racial-based town themes scores top mark with me. Each town has more or less unique buildings tied to racial skills, which is not very complex but works well.

>>> 10/10

2. Variety of Creatures
I think there is good variety in creatures and their abilities. Only a very few creatures seem redundant due to similar functions.

>>> 9/10

3. Design and Graphics
I think generally the transition to 3D graphics works very well in terms of gameplay, which I had feared would fail for the developers. I think the town views are absolutely stunning, each in their own way. However, even though I like the creature designs with a few exceptions (whoever dared put that tin can on the Inquisitor's head? ), I think the creatures have a very angular appearance and stiff animations, which generally subtracts from the experience.

>>> 7/10

4. Balance
I guess TotE marks a considerable step in the right way for balance - even so, there are still a lot of things that could be better - some factions are extremely powerful in early game, while others will be nigh unstoppable should they get the chance to develop fully. I'm not sure whether this is better or worse than previous chapters of the game - it seems to me that whereas in Heroes 3, all factions were either strong (Castle) or weak (Inferno), in Heroes 5 at least every faction has some chance of shining, I guess that's not too bad.

>>> 7 / 10

5. Enjoyment
Hmm, while I generally enjoy the game, it has failed to make me an addict like Heroes 3 did. I think this is because of the generally lack of possibility to commit to a single map for a long time - extremely long, epic, single scenarios are no longer possible, since there is no effective way to traverse such a map (due to lack of "real" Town Portal spell). That is a serious set-back for me. That being said, new additions to gameplay in terms of many new skills and abilities make it come out overall on the favorable side.

>>> 6/10

6. Upgrades System
The double upgrade system is fancy, and will certainly add a bit of fun for a short while - but I don't think this will add much lasting value to the game. It is only my guess, but I think that in most of the cases, one or the other of the upgrades will come out as the favored choice, which you will pick every time. It is my great fear that in far the most of the situations, the new TotE upgrade is favorable to the old one, thus essentially replacing the old upgrade. To me, a double upgrade system (adding a third tier) would have been much more interesting, because that would have added more tactical planning in when to upgrade not only first, but second time. All that being said, I appreciate the effort in trying something new in the game.

>>> 7/10

7. Campaigns and Storyline
Campaigns have been quite dissapointing to me. The storyline really doesn't interest me that much, but I guess I'm quite indifferent to that in general. Heroes is a strategy game to me, not a character game. The campaign maps range from extremely easy to ridiculously overpowered - sadly, with a very few of them spanning the spectre in between these two extremes. Generally, maps are poorly structured, with poor possibility of exploring map before XP limit is reached, which makes for poor gameplay. Also, many maps require you to control several main heroes at once, which is bothersome to me.

>>> 4/10

8. Singleplayer Missions
The extremely limited number of maps with this original game is a severe point of critique for me. Late arived and not-too-easy-to-use map editor did nothing to help with this. Expansions have helped somewhat with this, and I must add that the Dwarven single-player scenario added with HoF scores top mark for me.

>>> 4/10

9. Multiplayer Options

N/A

10. Slowness and loading times' effect
Fortunately, I only started playing after the release of several patches, which saved me a lot of crashes. Even so, after two addons and numerous patches, the game is still quite slow on saving and reloading, and once you play a larger map and reach second month, the game will become lacking to a degree that it's sometimes unplayable.

>>> 4/10

11. Skills and Abilities System
This is deffinitely an area where the game shines. The new skills/ability system is both ingenious and brilliant - it adds a new level to the game, and it works! The combersome and extremely poorly Ultimate Ability system and the stupid idea of an Ultimate Skill-level only accessible through an Artifact (wtf?) subtracts from the overall picture, but still a worthy step forward for the game. Oh, and the Heroes should have one more skill slot!

>>> 9/10

12. Magic System
Pros are clearly and logically defined schools, that are relevant and work in different areas. This is a step forward from Heroes 3, where all schools worked in the same areas (all schools had damaging spells, buffs, curses, etc.) making some of them redundant and generally making a multi-school-aproach pointless. Cons are too few spells in each school - 4 spells at each level had been logical and had not been unrealistic, and would have given a much wider spectrum for variation with your magic.

>>> 8/10

13. AI
This is something that also needs mentioning: Extremely poor AI programming boardering to the catastrophic simply makes the game pointless in many situations, which is obviously a disaster.

>>> 2/10

Overall rating: 6/10

Hmmm, that's a bit on the tough side, perhaps, I would probably say 7/10 is my subjective evaluation of the game.

1. Variety of Towns - 10 - I think that the towns in the game are absolutely enough, and even a bit too much - I think the Fortress town is not needed.

2. Variety of Creatures - 8 - Heroes contains very neat pack of creatures, but I am still mad that they didn't include some extra old-school creatures in the last expansion (azure dragon, gargantuan, behemoth etc.)

3. Design and Graphics - 7 - The graphics are very good, but some of the 3D models suck and don't resemble their classic counterparts from old games at all. The town views are also a bit inconvenient.

4. Balance - 9 - Almost perfect here, but I still think that Haven and Necropolis are a bit overpowered. Sylvan's ultimate also.

5. Enjoyment - 9 - As I mentioned in the above four points, there are some things that drive me crazy.

6. Upgrades System - 1 - I never liked the upgrades in the Heroes games. They make the game way too complicated and slow. That's why I liked Heroes 4. It had only one tier of every creature.

7. Campaigns and Storyline - 1 - They threw away the Erathia storyline for this crap. Blah!

8. Singleplayer Missions - 6

9. Multiplayer Options - 8 - Only if there weren't so many bugs...

10. Slowness and loading times' effect - ? - This completely depends on your PC configuration.

11. Skills and Abilities System - 10 - Wow! The skills are incredible, useful and interesting. I like the "hidden" abilities.

12. Magic System - 9 - There are almost no useless spells. The only thing I don't like is the fact that some town's heroes have huge abundance of mana, while others struggle with 1-2 knowledge.

Variety of Towns: 8
- racial skills need some tweaking, but the different factions are pretty good.
Variety of Creatures: 9
- could use some more neutral creatures
Design and Graphics: 8
- some of the new icons are pretty ugly, but I like the general style of the game
Balance: 6
- not really the strongest point of the game, especially as far as perks and hero specials are concerned. Some severe scaling issues with spells (and caster stacks)
Enjoyment: 8
Upgrades System: 7
- alternate upgrades need some tweaking. Some upgrade versions are so much better than the other that it isn't even funny, while it doesn't really matter which one you pick in some other cases.
Campaigns and Storyline: 7.5
- based on TotE. Base H5 would be a 5 at most.
Singleplayer Missions: 4
- boring cinematics, few missions to start with
Multiplayer Options: 5
- few good maps, lacking RMG
Slowness and loading times' effect: 4
- loading is okay, but the game slows down a lot in bigger maps and longer playtime.
Skills and Abilities System: 7
- once again balance issues, but the general concept is okay.
Magic System: 7
- TotE added some fun and useful new spells. Scaling issues limit this, though.

1. Variety of Towns - 10
this game has all the towns it needs, i wouldn't add nor remove any towns

2. Variety of Creatures - 9
after TotE there is plenty of creatures tho it wouldn't have hurted to include few more neutrals.

3. Design and Graphics - 8
the graphics are good enough IMO, even tho some unit designs are downright horrible. atleast they got rid of the hairy gay looking man angels that heroes 3 and 4 had, i always hated them

4. Balance - 7
while balance isn't really perfect, it's not downright horrible like in heroes 3 for example.

5. Enjoyment - 8
ive enjoyed this game quite a bit myself. fun to play in general and gave me the same feeling the old games did

6. Upgrades System - 9
it works and im happy with it

7. Campaigns and Storyline - 6
well maybe not the best storylines ive seen, i mostly just played the campaigns through to see the story once. interesting enough so i played the campaigns through once but then you can forget them.

8. Singleplayer Missions - 9
ive enjoyed all the missions ive played so far so good job.

9. Multiplayer Options - 8
well ive only played ubi.com during HoF and it seemed to work decently enough

10. Slowness and loading times' effect - 5
not the fastest loading times ive seen but they don't take forever either. it's in middlegrounds

11. Skills and Abilities System - 10
i enjoy the skill and ability system very much, even after TotE. i think it's the best so far out of all heroes games.

12. Magic System - 7
while it has some retarded sides to it, the magic system works nicely enough.

overall score: 8/10
not the best game ever but ive enjoyed Heroes 5 very much. and i wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to my friends.

1. Variety of Towns - 6
This could be better. Age of Wonders 2 and Heroes 3 had many more towns and many more options. Heroes 5 bring up some older towns but fail in making new others.Typicaly for Nival.

2. Variety of Creatures - 8
Toe bring new creatures.That is one of the best points for buying it.Variety of creatures are good in any game.

3. Design and Graphics - 7
The best graphics in Heroes games so far. Special and candy eyed effects so until now is good.

4. Balance - 1
The most unbalanced heroes from all. The best towns are might orientated ones and Dungeon. Balance dosent exist in Toe. Haven,Dungeon,Fortress,Inferno and Sylvans are amongs the most powerfull from all.Necropolis and orcs are still uber strong. Academy the winner of all weakest things is still on last place. Creatures are better in some towns than other, some tiers are tottaly screwed(see genies and blood maidens). Some heroes are better thatn other no matter what and some towns develop much more harder thatn other ones. Toe dose not deserve a ballance vote options.

5. Enjoyment - 6
Because of the strong unbalanced things heroes 5 is hard to play and is not fun anymore.Play only with Inferno and Dungeon to ensure 100% winning strategy.

6. Upgrades System - 4
Phatetic.In Toe ,towns as Haven and Inferno have all the alternates creatures better than the old ones.Some upgraded creatures are not worthy.Upgraded artifacts are too powerfull.

7. Campaigns and Storyline - not graded
I havent played any campaigns.

8. Singleplayer Missions - not graded.
I have played single player missions

9. Multiplayer Options - 8
Good than nothing. Still radnom map stinks but mp options are good.

10. Slowness and loading times' effect - 5
Way to much loading and slowness for any kind of map even on powerfull pc-s.

11. Skills and Abilities System - 8
 Good but not too good.Many skills and perks throwed around even if they belong only to one race(ex: warlocks luck and retribution)

12. Magic System - 4
 Incredible uncool. Too few spells.Spell are un-balanced(ex:ressurection and animate dead).Magic heroes dose not have a chance in the long runs specialy ones specialised in a certain spell(ex:Nathir)

P.S. Heroes 3 deserves ...10\10
Heroes 5 deserves 5\10.Why? Cause is not heroes anymore lol
