Radox' Ultimate Heroes Experience

I'd like to share with you my vision of the Ultimate Heroes game (note that this is not "HoMM 6", it's just the way I think Heroes should be done in order to fulfill the most important part - "MIGHT AND MAGIC". My game isn't overcomplicated like Heroes 5, but in fact, is built heavily around it. I tried to balance it well, hope you enjoy it. If the "project" achieves enough popularity, I might even consider sending it to Ubi/Nival.

Note : Every day I will reveal a new feature of the "game". You're free to offer ANY suggestions. So here we go with DAY 1 of the Unveiling.

DAY ONE - BASIC FEATURES

- The game will contain 7 towns
- Each town will have 7 tiers of creatures
- There will only be one level of each creature. No upgrades
- There will be around 20 neutral creatures
- Each creature will be heavily based on mythology and there will be no nonsenses
- Each of the towns will have 2 types of heroes - one based on might, and one based on magic.
- Each town will feature 10 heroes, every one with a unique specialty.
- There will be NO racial-specific skills
- There will be 12 to 14 secondary skills
- The will be 3 perks under each secskill's umbrella
- There will be 101 artifacts, derived into 4 categories - minor, major, relic and legendary
- The four primary skills remain the same as in Heroes 5

Hope you like it. I promise not to make you bored. Everything will have detailed explanations.

Next day - Day 2 - Unveiling of the first town - Creatures and Heroes!

Well, have you seen the formulas for calculating different chaces to join, damage etc? They use integral, logarithmic functions and other stuff like that... What's the point when we can make the game simpler, easier and more fun to play?

I like it but you should have upgrades. Not alternative upgrades, but 3rd upgrades.(no alternative upgrades, because you may want to do somthing diffferent then. and without the upgrades and 7 towns it kinda sounds like heroes 4 wich I don't like).

Some good, some bad

Quote:
- The game will contain 7 towns - I can live whit that

- Each town will have 7 tiers of creatures - Just like we have now

- There will only be one level of each creature. No upgrades - Not good. If you liked H4 style shame on you

- There will be around 20 neutral creatures - Sounds good to me. I don't like lv10 creatures back tough

- Each creature will be heavily based on mythology and there will be no nonsenses - Agreed

- Each of the towns will have 2 types of heroes - one based on might, and one based on magic. - 2 hero class would be better but magic needs to be equal to might heroes this time

- Each town will feature 10 heroes, every one with a unique specialty. - Like we have now in H5 but few more Heroes. More if 2 class

- There will be NO racial-specific skills - Must have. Necromancy = perfect racial. More balanced racials for others i would say

- There will be 12 to 14 secondary skills - Sound good. (Heroes 5 has 12 secondary skills + racials)

- The will be 3 perks under each secskill's umbrella - - 3 perk slots is good but you should have at least 6 to select them from 6. (Some skills have 9 available perks in H5

- There will be 101 artifacts, derived into 4 categories - minor, major, relic and legendary - More the better! (H5 TotE has over 90 already

- The four primary skills remain the same as in Heroes 5 - Of course!

@kraken: It's not like H4, trust me on this one

Sorry, but I can promise you that without upgrades, I will be bored. What you present is essentially Heroes 5 minus the two most important features of the game: The upgrades to add tactical options and the racial skills to make difference between the factions.

This is... Heroes 3! Redone in 3d with a few things changed.
You do realize that nival wanted to create a more original game but what nearly all the fans asked for is heroes 3 with better graphics.. Right?
I think the racial skills and alternate upgrades are the best of the best in heroes 5. I hope they create mercenaries and give each creature one or two more skills. And i hope for 8 tiers with the 8th tier being just an eighth tier. nothing overpowered And i hope that tier 9 units are the good neutrals.
Personally i like a few neutrals in the game but as far as i saw of them some were seriously overpowered as it is without being ultimate creatures of mass destruction like the megadragon. Maybe +5 tier 1-4 neutrals and 3 tier 5-8 one and a tier 9 one. That will be more then enough for me!

There's a reason 3DO went out of buisness. This is it.

Quote:

Yay!

Quote:

Most are from mythology.  Seriously, what can't be derived down to myth/legend/history?

Quote:

Yay!

OMG, why?

Quote:

12 there are already, 14 is good.

Quote:
- The will be 3 perks under each secskill's umbrella

Nothing new, esspecially if that's all there is.

Quote:
- There will be 101 artifacts, derived into 4 categories - minor, major, relic and legendary

Uh huh...This is new stuff...

FOr a perfect game we dont need to go much further than Heroes 5.

This would be perfect game for me
---------------------------------------------
Add in another expansion pack with:

1-2 new factions
Several level 6+ neutral monsters
At least 30-40 new artifacts and new artifact sets.
At least 12 new spells to fill in the (3 per school per level) scheme.
Nerf of mass spells (making them area effect instead).
Cleaning up the typos and final balance tuning.

And we got perfect game

DAY 2 - The First town

HAVEN

Well, what's a fantasy game without ... the good old humans? The noble humans, scattered after the last Great War, manage to slowly recollect their forces. Well-known human heroes of the past return to service under the mighty hand of King Albert. These scattered remnants of the human race build a glorius kingdom on the snowy peaks of a distant mountain chain. The time is now for King Albert's forces to reunite and begin their march towards reclaiming the rich valleys and glorious seas of the Erathia kingdom that was rightfully theirs... They lack an early-game flying unit, which is compensated by the incredible diversity and pure power of their ground units.

CREATURES:

1. Militia
- Health - 4
- Damage - 1-1
- Abilities - Tax payer (This creature generates 2 pieces of gold for it's owners resource pool every day)
- Comment - The militia are the basic foot soldiers of the Human empire. They are basically peasants with minimal martial training, that are voluntarily reinforcing the Empire's forces. Militia mainly act as a defensive force of Human outposts, but don't hesitate to charge into front lines.
Attack - 1
Defense - 2

2. Archer
- Health - 10
- Damage - 2-6
- Abilities - Scatter shot (The Archer can attack a 3x3 area on the battlefield with a barrage of arrows, dealing 50% of his standard damage to all tiles in the area)
- Comment - The crafty archers have always been a mainstay of the Haven army. Now, King Albert has decided to reform their ranks. These skillfull shooters are back and they don't stop at nothing to protect the will of their master with their thrusty crossbows.
Attack - 4
Defense - 4

3. Pikeman
- Health - 20
- Damage - 4-6
- Abilities - Long weapon (The Pikeman can attack enemy creature if it's up to 2 squares away from it)
- Comment - After seeing that there is no soldier in his ranks to stop enemy cavalry and other mounted forces, King Albert decided to bring back the Pikemen of old. With their long pikes, these skilled warriors can attack charging enemies from afar.
Attack - 7
Defense - 6

4. Crusader
- Health - 40
- Damage - 5-9
- Abilities - Double attack (This creature performs two melee attacks, with the second one after enemy's retaliation)
- Comment - The Crusaders are the elite ranks of Haven's army. They are noble warriors, sworn to crusade against the enemies of the Empire in order to reconquer the once sacred lands of their old kingdom. Their advanced armor is hard to penetrate, but unfortunately slows them down a bit. However, they more than compensate for that with their fierce combat skills, that allow them to strike their opponents two times in each attack!
Attack - 8
Defense - 10

5. Zealot
- Health - 60
- Damage - 9-13
- Abilities - Spellbook (This creature is proficient in the schools of magic and can cast a variety of spells during combat, the Zealots are prominent in the school of Light magic and can summon such spells, that bestow the power of their allies. Zealots can cast Bless, Haste and Zeal)
- Comment - Zealots are former monks that are transformed into fierce defenders of faith and Good. They fight the opposers of Light with nearly fanatical ferocity and are more than willing to provide their army with their polished magic skills.
Attack - 13
Defense - 13

6. Champion
- Health - 100
- Damage - 16-25
- Abilities - Charging attack (Every tile that this creature walk before striking an enemy, increases it's damage by 5%)
- Comment - The most skilled Crusaders sometimes get promoted in the ranks of the Champions - the most powerful warriors of the Haven army and dedicated keepers of faith. They are mounted on strong and selected horses which grants them great mobility.
Attack - 22
Defense - 21

7. Angel
- Health - 220
- Damage - 50-50
- Abilities - Resurrect allies (Once per combat, Angels can resurrect a damaged allied troop)
- Comment - The faithful Angels have once again descended from the skies and agreed to assist the humans in order to purge the undead-infested valleys and woods. Their enchanted swords always do equal amount of pain to the non-believers.
Attack - 29
Defense - 29

HERO TYPES:

The Haven's heroes come into two types - Clerics and Paladins.

Clerics are wise and dedicated former monks, elected from the ranks of the newly-formed Zealot faction. They are keen to study and delve deeper into the secrets of Light magic which makes them an irreplaceable addition to Haven's forces. Clerics may not be as good commanders as the Paladins, but they surely can handle a larger variety of magic spells.
- Clerics start the game with 0 Attack, 2 Defense, 1 Spellpower and 2 Knowledge.
- On each level-up, a Cleric has 15% chance to receive Attack, 25% chance - Defense, 25% - Spellpower and 35% - Knowledge.

Paladins are members of the new Paladin order of King Albert that has been established to "convert" all the Knights of the old times into even more saint and noble warriors. In the Paladin order, all the Knight heroes receive new training and more importantly - they are being enlightened in the power of Good through complicated educational program. Paladins are willing to give everything they are able to in order to fulfill the orders of their beloved King and preserve the sanctity of Good.
- Paladins start the game with 1 Attack, 3 Defense, 0 Spellpower and 1 Knowledge.
- On each level-up, a Paladin has 35% chance to receive Attack, 45% chance - Defense, 5% - Spellpower and 15% - Knowledge.

HEROES:

Orrin (Paladin)
Specialty - Archers in hero's army receive +1 attack and +1 defense for each hero level-up. The bonuses start on first level

Michael (Paladin)
Specialty - Crusaders in hero's army receive +1 attack and +1 defense for each hero level-up. The bonuses start on first level

Don't worry about the racial skills - they will still be available, but not under the form of Hero's secondary skill. They will be performed inside the towns. when the player has built the required structure. The reason I am doind this is the Heroes will now have more spare slots for the increased number of skills and your first slot will not ALWAYS be taken by a racial-skill.

About the upgrades - I think that they are cool, yeah, but they also make the game a bit sluggish at times - struggling to upgrade your units, not being able to take the joining 50 Cavaliers in your army because you only have Champions etc... My point with removing the upgrades is making the game SIMPLER (as I mentioned) and also faster.

P.S. - Sorry for the sucking story and illogical hero combinations, but as i said before, this is not exactly a sequel, but rather a dream version of heroes that has all the best and most popular creatures and heroes from the series. The only thing I'd like to apologize for is that I haven't taken much time to develop a story, but that will be up to us later

Thank you for taking the time to read my project's "days"

I oppose to no upgrades.

If anything I love the alternative upgrade option of ToE, it adds even more strategic decisions to be made. Aside from which to upgrade first.

Mind you, you could go for H2 style. Some units without upgrades, some units with 1, and some units which can be upgraded even twice!

I just feel without any upgrades, the game would be VERY boring and too easy... Yeah it's annoying if you can't take that additional stack of 50 cavaliers if you have only champions, but hey, that's life. Think up of a different solution rather than ditching upgrades!

That aside, I'm watching this thread

Quote:

MOAR!!! 9 at least!!

Quote:

That I like. Norse / Greek / Egyptian based towns

Quote:

Quote:

Quote:
- There will be NO racial-specific skills

I rather liked some of them. Demons are usefull. Warlock's is both usefull and annoying (no more armageddon strategy!)
At least make a specific skill for each race ONLY available to that race, even if the hero doesn't start with it.
Quote:
- There will be 12 to 14 secondary skills

Decent. Do take note if you disliked having only 5 free skillslots, you could simply increase that
