Final Fantasy is most likely the best game series there is!

They are great fun to play, and they are also time-consuming. Sometimes when I just sit down to play FFVII it suddenly has turned from dawn to dusk

Final Fantasy VII is perhaps the best game ever made!

I will become a new life form, a new existence. Melding with the Planet. I will cease to exist as I am now. Only to be reborn as a 'God' to rule over every soul. - Sephiroth, FFVII

I'm quite a fan of the early games, but the series kinda went downhill after FF 6.
FMV's and 3D-graphics don't compensate for the story, and I never really liked the new systems they tried to come up with. FF IX was alright though.
Too bad they stopped making PC versions or I even might have bought it. That is, if they had made more effort than with the previous two games.

What system you are talking about? I liked the Materia system in VII but not that much of VIII Fuction system. In IX Weapons learned you the abilities and it was quite nice. I see why you liked IX Nirual it was more "back to basic" whit charters White Mage, Black Mage, Warrior and Tief. IX is good, definitely better than VIII

FFIX sure is great, but I dont think its better than FFVIII. It has such a fantastic story and humorous characters(Zell&Irvine, anyone?) and is just overall great. Though I must admit that FFVIII is bit too easy compared to FFIX...

No. I'd definitely say that FFIX>FFVIII.

Out of the ones I've played: VII=IX>X>VIII>XII.

Pretty much every system I heard of so far, except for the IX one.
Both materia and GF make your characters a bit too exchangable, although the GF one was slightly better since it allows you to customize characters more than essentially trading magical stats for physical stats. And the characters have more unique moves than the FFVII Limit Breaks which usually just deal varying amounts of damage.
And only Tifa had a somewhat unique system.

And don't get me started on the story.

I have liked all Final Fantasy stories so far. It's always, save the planet and people you love but it works. X-2 didn't have any story really or i just couldn't see it, thats why i didn't like it so much.

FF VIII in other hand has interesting story but too bad they blew that completely off whit worst ending. Could there be any more useless disk than the final disk 4? Everything after disk 3 is crappy. You can't go world map again and your final battle is against this "Wizard from the future" what you haven't even really seen in the game before...

FF VIII still had it's moments. In mid way of the game the charter development was very fun. In the end all spells are maxed and so are the stats (well almost). I like to make charters super powerful (255 stats) but unfortunate thats "impossible" for Squall! Seriosly, although Squall is excellent charter he was the one charter i couldn't max to 255 charter Only because some GF gives you boost to attributes when you level up and when you get these GF your Squall (must be in party member) has already so hight level that he doesn't benefit from the boosts so much as the other charters (where i have saved these favorite  charters non leveled up until i got the GFs what boost stats) It's easy to get 9999 damage for charters but max all the stats in this game is little harder.

Friend of mine was actually crazy enough to max out Squall statics! But how? I tell you. Target Squall in battles and keep him dead until you get good GF's  then max his levels. If Squall is lv10 charter when you begin the "training" and some of the GF's give +2 Strength per level it's +180 Strength on level 100. That is just so lame to keep main charter dead the whole game time that i started to HATE this level up system so bad. Same thing is actually in VI but it wasn't so big thing for me when charters attackmagic already makes that 9999 damage limit pretty easily in that game. Also monsters are fairly easy on that game (Yes, even the Dinosaurs)

Don't mind my pointless jabbing aim snow faced tonight. Oh yeah baby let's go one more round again

I dreamt I was a moron - Squall FF VIII

Chandler do you mean X-2 or 12 (XII)? Haven't played the newest XII yet but i doubt Blitzball is in it. It's possible, i don't know... I liked Blitz in X but Blitz in X-2 was too confusing, played only few matches.

i always liked FF8 the most, the newer ones aren't as deep

and apparently, FF8 should be like 13 or something, in Japan they released FF way before FF1, they just never sent them abroad, true story

What are talking about Final Fantasy 8 (VIII) is really 8. Confusion was before in Nintendo times when Final Fantasy VI was actually called Final Fantasy III on Super Nintendo but after that came Final Fantasy 7 and some of the earlier FF games never released on States or in Europe.

I don't remember how it went exactly but look the video Angry Nintendo Nerd made, some interesting info about game sequels if you didn't know already

Simple, FF 4-6 were initially released as FF 1-3 in the US and Europe so the people wouldn't wonder why a "new" series starts with 4.
No other games were affected, and later releases used the proper numbers again (such as the GBA remakes).

Anyway, I saw little point maxing out stats by leveling up since FF VIII actually tends to punish you for leveling up since most enemies level with you and the stat boni from leveling are minor compared to conjunction.
