What I think is always funny in places with "real" winters is that in the fall when it first drops to 5C, everyone is complaining about the cold and putting on coats. But in the spring when it first gets UP to 5C, everyone is stripping off their clothes and celebrating spring.

lool. So true. Although, I think that springs are a bit more sunny and less clouded so maybe there's some logic in this after all.

I think it's called cabin fever. People are about to burst from staying inside all winter.
I get outside a lot myself. I'd go crazy stuck inside all winter. But sometimes the only time I see a lot of my neighbors is a quick glimps as they run to the car.
Today is nice and sunny and just above freezing. So it's time for some leaf raking (although I don't think my back will last longer than a half hour )

Not ever seen a fireplace in a house?
Never been to scandinavia I quess then?
Every house has a fireplace here. Well not all new appartment houses but everything else.
There are houses which have an outside grill, oven, a fireplace, sauna oven and a boiler which use firewood.
I thought everyone complained about it being wet and muddy when it's between 10 and -5 but how can I know we don't have real winters here only -40 at best Of course at night there might be more.
But hey we have +30 summers so who's complaining?

I don't know what percentage of houses here have fireplaces. It's probably less than half though. I have one, but I don't use it. I would like to use it every now and then, but I need to get some chimney work done first.
We have a high population density here. If everyone burned wood all winter, the forests would be stripped bare in no time.
Nope, never been to Scandanavia. Except on google maps I've been all over Scandanavia and lots of other places. I can spend hours "traveling" on google maps. Not as good as real travel, but still cool. Check out how similar the fjords of Norway and west coast of Canada and Alaska are. I haven't compared yet, but the lakes of southern Finland might be similar to the glaciated lakes of central canada.
In RL I've been to 47 US states and all the southern provinces of Canada, and sort of been to Mexico.

Well they might look like the glacial lakes of Canada because they are glacial lakes.
And they are in eastern Finland nowadays. They might have been in southern Finland before WW2 but after that they have been in eastern Finland.
That's where I live by the way. Now my fascination with water and woods isn't such a mystery anymore.
As for the firewood think a country about the size of Germany and divide it's population by twenty or so. Then just think about forest, forest and forest and a little more forest...
I haven't even travelled that much. Only Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Russia, Spain and Germany. Norway only a little bit while hiking and fishing in Lappland. How could anyone stay away from there when all the mountains are on Norways side of the border.

Bored.
I'm sitting in the university, it's the last day of the learning week, and including the Hanuka (however you spell it in English) holidays I have 4 days of freedom ahead of me. I finished all my lectures for the day and yet I'm sitting here because the first straight bus home from here comes in a bit less than 2 hours. So here I am trying to decide whether to do some homework, take the long way home or just waste time.
