LOL

Djive...Quote from you:
"Or are you simply shhoting in the dark and see who you hit?"
Maybe I'm doing that. I usually do that more than often. I would like to keep the bullets to myself but can't help myself. And I'm talking about lying really...aliases come along to the picture when you have multiple accounts...
But I have nothing against you Djive. We haven't really talked about personal stuff and you have been very open about yourself. I don't really care **** what your real sex is. You are writing some damn good messages and that is enough for me.
So...
My intention isn't do any crusaders here. I just say my opinion and look how others react. If you get offended...I'm really sorry about that.

Oldtimer...
LOL...I should have guessed you're going to post something like that...now everybody thinks you are really that girl...

Roleplaying is something that few of us can avoid on discussion boards, but of course, we implement our percieved characteristics as they become known to us. I never started out here to end up with the sort of impressions that people have about me now. I started out here with a simple user name that I have on Zone with the idea to express my own subjective opinion in the hope that it would generate some thoughtful discussion.

Yet somewhere along the way, I realized that my opinions, collectively, were a way for people to see into the real me, even though I didn't like it and found myself getting defensive when people posted something about me. Ichon once called me a hypocrite and it struck me pretty quick at how true his statement was.

Some of my earlier posts were a weak attempt at roleplay, but I found that being myself and having conviction in who I was as a person ultimately helped me to gain some measure of respect from other people. Let's face it, I don't know any of you guys personally, posting words over the internet is enough of a facemask already without going one step further and lying about who you are in real life. There is no need to lie, you just be who you are and if you feel the need to lie about your own experiences, then I feel shame for you because there doesn't seem to be any point being here except to make a mockery of those people who aren't lying about themselves.

There are people who will never do this and neither do i expect them to. This is the internet and you are free to do as you please. You can roleplay Toad Zappers until the end of time, I don't care. But that roleplaying, post after post will eventually lead others to 'see' a small glimpse of Djive and who she is. And thus, people will start taking shots in the hope that maybe they will see more of the RL personality shine through.

RolePlaying an avatar is sometimes a given necessity and is acceptable to all of us because it is recognized as such. Role Playing your REAL SELF is more insidious in nature because it shows a complete willingness to lie to others and hide it. How can you be taken seriously if you do this?

To tell you the truth, I'm not interested in people who post fake stuff about what they 'pretend' to believe in and roleplay a character which has nothing to do with them on a thread like 'What is Honour'. Maybe I take it too seriously, but if people are going to post about a character which is just that... a character, then why the hell should I bother arguing my own beliefs about it?

I feel like I'm having a discussion with Big Bird! Stuff the yellow bird costume, come out and tell me face to face with no hint of snow about how you REALLY feel!

This board is about heroes and your opinions and how you play the game. And if you're opinions are being 'roleplayed' then you're wasting my time. If I wanted Role Playing, I'd go to a weekly D&D group and spend my time there.

*smile*

PS: I only used to roleplay my drow character with a ToH player named Grumblebelly. I never got to know the real him, and although I had lots of laughs on the Zone I always wonder what happened to him?

Sha_Men: No, I'm not holding any offence.
*lol*
It seems the 'Responsible' Hero is shooting in the dark.

Shae_Trielle: If you find these 'RP personality' threads so irksome, then why not simply stay clear of them and let the people in them continue what they do. I mean aren't a big majority of the threads on-topic, and without this type of RP-ing? As you say, there's no need for you to argue, so why would you contemplate arguing at all?

I might have missed something but do you feel there's some people on this forum who needs to lie about their own experiences? It's farily rare that people talk about their RL experiences at all.

Did I understand correctly Shae's post? I was saying that you may talk as your image and not as yourself. But I didn't think that someone will tell us opinions about Heroes that are not his own opinions but opinions of the virtual character. I mean, how can this happen? For example, someone likes Dungeon but because his avatar is Yog, he claims that he likes Stronghold... No, I don't think this is the case. You may lie about other things but about HoMM...

Djive, I think you've misunderstood me. I'm not talking about RolePlaying characters in threads or such, I'm talking about getting to know people in IM and them being full of you-know-what. Rychee likes to call them tossers. People who say that they're like 'x' and really they're nothing like 'x' at all. People who make out to be a lot more than they really are. They fake their personality to everyone.

This is not RolePlaying, this is lying. The two are completely different.

Yes, you're right Shae. I thought you were talking about RolePlaying characters/aliases. Mainly because that was what I talked in my post just before yours.

I agree with you on the IM-part. Lying is a lot harder to get at when the messages come and go through IMs, since there are no witnesses and it would probably be very difficult to do something about.

(Discussion between RL me and my alias, Djive)
"Can I zap DonGio into a Toad?"

"A toad? Djive, can't you see he's already green in his face?"

"But he called me, a fully fledged Gnoll Witch, for a 'girl'" (exasperated)

*lol*
"Well, let it go for this time. See it as a complement on your youthfulness. Perhaps next time."

"Complementing my youth with that green face? You can't be serious!!"

"Calm down Djive. You can't go around zapping avatars right and left!"

"All right, all right! I won't do it this time. What a pity! He makes such an easy target right now." (*sighs*)

-----

PS. Congrats on your Honorable status Shae.

Seeing as this IS the personality thread...

RMS, you've changed. I have seen you turn from a somewhat insightful poster every now and again into a poor man's David Spade who trys to put his opinion into almost everything in the Tavern.  Whether this is your "yard" or not, sometimes it gets on my nerves the way you blatantly post one-liners without the courtesy to use IM instead.  I get the idea you are beginning to think you've "made it" because he got Moderator of a message board.

Big friggin' deal.

Besides that, your quotes as Anonymous (come on, do you have to be *that* blatant about it?) are charming, but for the most part you seem to try to be a Big Man, and it's not working.  Get off your high horse and start thinking about how much vapidness you post in comparison to the little nuggets of stolen wisdom from people long dead.

Well, it seems that our moderator has changed... Is it so? He does his work as usual - reads threads, gives Quality Points... But since it is his work to read the threads, he finds that he should reply as well as read... But Gimmickless is right and I should add a feature of RMS's personality - sometimes he writes short posts to keep the conversation alive (I hope that it's not the opposite - to kill the thread?). But he writes long posts as well. About Anonymous - I won't judge him... yet.

Does everyone here hate sesame street?

I do, even when I was little it enraged me, so condecending, just perpetuating the role of adults as the lawgivers and children as the subjects in a nefarious kingdom whose ignorance forespelled terrible tragedies. I thought that then and I ain't changed my mind much since.

LOL RMS. It's just that you seem to say a lot and a little all at the same time without really saying much...

Either that or your intellect goes way over my head. Way way over!

I never really watched Sesame Street as a little girl. I usually wasted most of my time watching Felicidade (Happiness) and playing with my friends (cabbage patch anyone?) I found the Americanism of Sesame Street and the deliberate condescension (just as Ichon said!) to be not worth my time. I wasn't really into schoolwork either! I was just one of those kids who enjoyed playing up, I think!
