I seem to recall someone once pointed out that Deidre did not get her bonus to Banshee Howl as her specialization would merit.
I just noticed this when reading through the DefaultStats.xdb file:
<DarkEissary_DeathScreamMultiplier>2</DarkEissary_DeathScreamMultiplier>
However, in the text file for Deidre, her specilization is listed as:
HeroSpecDarkEmissary
Could it be that the game does not recognice her speciality bonus because of a spelling mistake in the DefaultStats file?

Deirdre's specialty works (just tested), only that it does not double the effect of Banshee Howl's Luck and Morale decrease. I'm saying this because with the Necro set and Deirdre Banshee Howl decreases Luck and Morale by 3 and not 4.
The thing that doesn't work is the Necro Set property that Banshee Howl will use only half a turn - it uses a full turn still.

Well that's what I'm talking about: Her Banshee Howl does not double in effect because the line in the DefaultStats is not readen properly?

I wouldn't bet on it, since a lot in that file is spelled wrongly and seems to act as a "receptor" from the .exe's information, but there's no harm in testing it... can't at the moment.
I'll check whether the misspelling is in the original versions.

I remember that I modified that value once and it did change her specialty... not sure about 3.1 though

hi guys!
I'm looking for a way to view the h5 creature animations or play them frame by frame. I know that there is a hacked version of the editor by TSoD where it seems you can play animations but the download link is broken I also tried Granny Viewer but failed in opening any xdb file after extracting from the data.pak folder. does anybody know how to solve my problem If this is not the right thread I'm sorry but I didn't find any other and tried to avoid necro posting...

It's not a hacked version, you can use the Editor that comes with the game. Here's my explanation:
Quote: Go to the following folder: C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Heroes of Might and Magic V - Tribes of the East\profiles
Open the editor_a2.cfg file with Notepad and change the line setvar map_editor_mode = 1 to setvar map_editor_mode = 9 (or any number except 1 or 0).
Open the Map Editor - the interface will have changed a little. You can now access hidden features. Without opening a map, go to Resource -> View Tables and tick the CharacterView box.
Now click OK and go to View -> Game Database -> New Window. Then select the new window from View -> Game Database.
In the drop-down bar above the window you just activated, choose CharacterView. Navigate through the folders, double-click any character file and you can view them in the main window with ease.
It's not exactly frame-by-frame but you can slow down the anims and play each one at your leisure, if that's okay.

that's simply perfect, thank's a lot Cepheus and TSoD!! But is there any way to use the rotate property from objects when opened a map for the models in character view? That would be great, cause then you could rotate by any value without changing the camera position. Thank's a lot!!

Quick question:
If I am editing creatures all throughout and lets say I decide to make the Scouts/Assassins/Stalkers much weaker than they currently are. To compensate for this I will increase the weekly growth of the creature. Will this also affect the neutral stacks, that is, will the neutral stacks of Scouts have greater numbers of Scouts if I edit the weekly growth or is there another file that I must edit to do that?

Depents, at first it won't (if the map maker set the creature number per stack). But they will probably grow for more per week...

The maps have stacks that are either predefined in number or based on growth. The latter case is the most common, and it's the one which is not affected in strength by modifying the growth and making the creature weaker (the one you're looking for)
However, some maps have a predefined number of creatures... say, 10 Assassins guarding Map Location X, or 10 random tier 1s, etc... in this case, you can imagine that your modification will affect neutral strength. Though this is pretty rare fortunately.

For starting army open up "GameMechanics\RPGStats\DefaultStats.xdb" and search for <HeroArmyGeneration>. All those numbers are multiplied with the growth of the respective creatures you get (note that the negative value in some cases is because a tier 3 rarely spawns in hero's army, and this improves the chances to not appear there at all since a negative value is considered the same as 0 (no creature))
For Haggash's bonus open up the same file but search for <CentaurMistress_StartATBBonusPerHeroLevel> property.
