AngelWings_hero_move.(effect)
and all its subparts? I know its a lot, but I can't figure out what I messed up.

@GnollMage:
Q1: the map editor only loads .pak files in data/, that you've taken care of. But did you try putting it in dataa1/ for the HoF editor?
Q2: in H5/HoF, creatures and heroes had two models. The combat (arena) was better defined (bigger textures), while the advmap was lower quality (smaller textures with less details at times). I assume they first made the smaller ones, and added the more detailed ones later.
In ToE, they (finally) figured out that they could use the better model for advmap as well.
Same for icons, that now only come in 128x128 flavor, and are resized by the game as needed.
Q3: in the Crystal Dragon thread, page 2, start from the end.
CharacterView is an obsolete remnant that is not used anymore as far as I know (even in H5).
@Daystar: it seems you have a knack for questions I don't understand.
@BIGJOCKER: apparently "later" is now, so you'll be pleased with Vokial's guide on the wiki.
@InfernoX880: First, you can also use the CREATURE_BLACK_KNIGHT slot.
Now, that wasn't a real long term answer, so I'll give you the general idea here.
* The creatures index file is (as indicated in my diagram)
/GameMechanics/RefTables/Creatures.xdb
A new creature should be added there. It currently contains 180 items (177 used in game, 2 unused slots - SNOW_APE and BLACK_KNIGHT, and the special CREATURE_UNKNOWN with id 0).
* the list and its length (180) is also specified in types.xml. This should be updated as well.
* the .exe also has a built-in check that the list has 180 items. This should also be updated.
The issue of course is to find the correct places where something should be changed. Crazypill did that for HoF .exe, and that's what is explained in Kronos tutorial on the wiki.

BJ: Let me take a look, I can probobally make the Mod for you.
@ModeratorWithTheNameICanNeverRemeber: There is an effect called AngelWings_hero_move.(Effect)
I have messed it up by playing with the properties in the Shared Properties thing in the Map Editor. There's a lot of data (numbers and things) in the effect and its sub-files (animation, particles, etc) and I'm not sure which ones I have messed up. Hence I am asking for a complete description of everything in there.
Sorry for not making sense.
Hey BJ: There's an Easy Way to do this in the editor. Open it up and open the Adventure Map Shared Properties.
Open Model.
You will see
Materials
...[0] {TEXTURE}
...[1] {TEXTURE}
...[2] {TEXTURE}
...[3] {TEXTURE}
...[4] {TEXTURE}
...[5] {TEXTURE}
{TEXTURE} will be an actuall texture name. Simply replace [0], [1], [4], and [5] with
Material:_(Model)\TESTS\InvisibleBox.(Model):item_8a2f5e06-05b0-4a07-905a-9a9f459b2f86:Material
which is completely transparent. You might want to edit this to not cast shadows.
The same is true for the upgrades. They have a lot more material subgroups (12) Replace all but the first 4 with the InvisibleBox file. That should work, let me know!
Another problem: I am trying to help out with the Undead faction mod, and I'm creating a spectral form of the wolf, called a Searcher (Clementian Mythology)
zip
Here is the zip file. I put the .zip file in UserMODS and renamed the extension to .h5u, but nothing happened! What am I doing wrong?
If you want I can email you the .h5u, I would upload it but mediafire is being contrary...

Just to show that adding a new creature in ToE can be done by editing the .exe file, here's a demo:
http://www.dagobah-storage.com/Add_new_creatures_ToE.rar
The rar contains the new .exe, a test mod (with the Thunderbird as neutral - since you were looking for it anyway), and a test map named Test.Add.Thunderbird (the name is in red in the list). The map is Mystic's Vale, multiplayer, and player 1 has two stacks of Thunderbirds at his door.
The Thunderbird mod is based on work by Szeridan from Drachenwald.
The .exe editing is very similar to the HoF .exe editing by crazypill.

@wilen: Open data.pak, go to GameMechanics/Creature/Creatures/*Choose race*/"Choose creature.xdb*
For example open GameMechanics/Creature/Creatures/Haven/Angel.xdb
Find "<WeeklyGrowth>1</WeeklyGrowth>" in text and chang the "1" with another number, like: "<WeeklyGrowth>4</WeeklyGrowth>" and you'll have 4 for growth. See here:
This how to change the growth but for everyday you need to edit the exe.

Quote: Right, here we go. This works for me on Windows XP. Forgive anything that may seem condescending or whatever.
1. Open WinRar and open data.pak
2. Create a New Folder on your Desktop, for sorting's sake
3. Find the files in data.pak you want to extract. Highlight the files and click the big shiny button above marked "Extract To"
4. A window will open, find your New Folder in the list, highlight it and click "OK"
5. Exit WinRar, return to the Desktop and open the New Folder
6. There's your files! Now highlight the extracted files, all of them if possible, and right-click
7. A small sub-menu will appear, click "Properties"
8. A new window will open. Near the bottom you should see two checkboxes marked "Read-only" and "Hidden". If "Read-Only" is checked, uncheck it
9. That's it, you can now throw a party or something
just a question when i'm done changing the file in the extracted folder do i have too extract back in the data or just keep them in the folder

Quote: @petemong: Indeed, this mod is meant for ToE. I'll package one for H5 today when I get the time. Note that you can buy ToE anyway, it's a great buy.
Now that you've found your way here, where you can ask any question, I'll delete them your posts in Curio's guide thread, since they have nothing to do with the topic there.
About using mods, it's all explained in the FAQ. Here are the relevant extracts for you:
"The mod is a .h5u, .h5m or maybe .pak file, that is nothing more than a renamed zip archive."
"How do I install a mod?
You just have to place the mod in the correct subfolder inside your game's installation folder" - I stress "inside your game's installation folder"
"If the indicated folder does not exist (like UserMODs/ in 1.6), you can just create it."
The trickier situation is if you are still using Internet Explorer to download the file. If you are, refer to the "--- It doesn't work! ---" section: if you see the .zip extension written in the filename, you just rename it. If you don't see it, you need to change your windows setting to show known extensions.
Of course, we'll explain more if you need, but it would be nice to show us that you tried to read the FAQ first.
Ok, I've bought the ToE and downloaded "Maps_ToE_UnlockAllHeroes.zip", and i changed all the files name in "MapObjects" and "Maps" to ".h5u". Then i put both of the folders into (F:/Heroes of Might and Magic V - Tribes of the East/UserMODs), but when i play the game, nothing change and none of the campaign heroes apprear in "custom game"
Did i do anything wrong? I've been trying for many days but i still cannot play those campaign heroes in custom game. Please help me :'(
Oh also I've changed all of the modified date of the ".h5u" files to 30/12/2007 while my installation date was 26/12/2007......but still does not work

@petemong: yes, you did something wrong. You renamed the files INSIDE the archive, not the archive itself.
Obviously, you used Internet Explorer to download. Right?
Just after download, what is the name of the file?

This thread could very easily get confusing...
@BJ: Put in a Ghost. Press CTRL+SPACE and look to the left in a map editor. You will see something called "Shared" with a box next to it. Click that. Then you will see two buttons apear at the far right of the box. Click on the first one (not the one that says new) and the rest should be there.

@petemong: First, you can edit your posts, instead of double posting.
About your problem, maybe I'm not clear, so I'll try again:
- Did you use Internet Explorer to download the file? (the big blue "e" icon to view web pages)
- you said you renamed files, so I guess you know what the name of the file is: the file has an icon, next to it, there is some text, this is its name. When you rename a file, that's the text you can edit.
Now, try answering at least one of these questions.
"WinRAR ZIP archive" is what your windows detects as file type. It tells us that you have WinRAR installed, which is good. But it doesn't answer any of my questions.

By "internet" you mean "Internet Explorer". It's not the only browser in the world. It's the only the worst. Firefox and Opera are far better.
".xdb" is not the file name. It's the extension. And it's not the file you downloaded, it's a file that was inside it. The file you downloaded is a zip archive, and my guess is that it is named "Maps_ToE_UnlockAllHeroes.zip".
Assuming this is correct, the question now is: do you see the ".zip" extension in the file name or not?
By the way, all this is explained in the FAQ, which you should have read by now.
Obviously, you didn't understand a word there, that's why the only possible way is to guide step by step with those silly questions.
