This game takes too long!!!
Finished a game just now, and watched the time!
Seven and a half hours!!!
Honestly... I could have played 7 games of DotA or something else...
I'm sorry to say, Heroes is too time consuming...

Are you referring to a multiplayer map? They were meant to take a long time. You aren't supposed to finish them in one day, in fact you are expected to make use of the save option. Yes, it is rare, because I know we all love this. The bad news about this is that the early game is long. The good new is so is the late game.

Well, isn't that a good thing for a game to have a good lifetime ?
I prefer when I can spend time with the money I spent (50 € is not a gift).
Thus, I don't really understand what you mean by "time consuming" as you can spend as much time as you want. You can play H5 one hour a week or twelve hours a day as well. It's not the same with other games (like some MMORPG, I know that's different kind of games).
If you refer for others strategy games, just play some Civilization IV and come back telling me your feeling about time consuming, or play some RTS where you play shorter games but with a higher level of stress.
The good thing about Turns-Based Strategy is you have any time you want to do each actions (well, not in multiplayer, but it's less breathtaking than a RTS).
After that, I agree on the fact that each person have specific likings. Maybe you bought the wrong game.

That is what I was trying to point out. Like Excelsior says, it's about enjoying the game and getting into it, not just winning quickly. This is a Turn Based game, blitzkrieg skirmishes are RTS games (not that they're not fun).

My point is that this is not new information. It's been that way since the release of the first version of the game.

It's just to make a point.
And I was not talking about the length in itself but of the ratio between the satisfaction and length.
Basically, in an average 6 hour game, you spend 3 hours creeping, 3 hours watching your screen while your oponent makes his moves, for a final battle that lasts 10 minutes tops.
And sometimes you can get so badly owned that there is no satisfaction.
Anyway comparing this to a RTS, like Warcraft, or DotA, I think the main difference is you can enjoy all this pretty quickly and still have time to get some sleep. If you make a mistake and you lose, it will cost you only a few minutes of play, and not hours.
My point is, I think heroes should have more RTS elements, and the game time should be drastically improved. Turn based battles are fun, but turn based map-exploring is just killing my sleeping hours and eventually my social life...

Well it's a fundamental problem for this game (or this genre of game) that can't be fixed without some dramtic changes to the game system, so I think we just have to live with it.

All TBS strategy games take a long time to play. So you either gotta deal with it, or TBS isn't for you...

I like long games, when I play Wog with my friends, sometimes we need a few hours to finish a extra large map, because we using difficulty scripts and takes time, like an RPG .
Play small or medium ones, are faster
Just my opinion

I think half the time is spent due to lag. The lag just makes it feel long. The other half is long battle, such as dungeon taking on hordes of walkers week 1. I made my opponent mad cuz i took on a horde of squires day 2.

Simultaneous turns (even tho it doesnt last long) is a nice improvement over h3.
IN such games, i don't spend a minute just "watching" the screen. When its not your turn, tab out and surf or do some "prepared-for-this-occasion" work (Im doing some seminars for university when i play, i never play if i dont have anything else to do in my opponents turns). So just use your browser... and when your turn comes, the game will blink on your taskbar so you can immediatelly respond. (H3 had nice feature of instantly tabbing-in when your turn comes, but this blinking is not that bad either

Sure the maps take a long time to complete in some places but thats part of the fun. I still really like playing hotseat and having one person on the computer playing heroes and the other person doing whatever they want elsewhere like watching tv.
